Beatboxing
Beatboxing
Who does it? Any tips on how to get started? Find any really good videos on youtube? Whatever, this is the thread to talk about it.
Felix Zenger is probably the best beatboxer in footbag. Vasek is also good. Who else? Alex Strassman, Matt Cross...?
Here's a little girl who can beatbox pretty well:

And of course there's Rahzel. Anyway, just wanted to start off a topic.

Im a big fan of the flute/beatboxing dude.
As for a beatboxing battle, Im more one for a beat box collabo, not everyone needs to have the same skills, simply take your shred circle get each person to make a different beat/noise and guaranteed something sick will be created. Plus you can make the beat match the shred.

I try. Many nights of mine in this small town back in the day were spent drinking jager and beat boxing while walking around and playing games of a hybrid of net and 2-4 square(depending on the ammount of people playing), using parking spaces as our squares, no spikes/snakes everything had to be above knee height as if there was an invisible net.sanuke okumatzu wrote:You my sir.... are a genius....ShredEX wrote:simply take your shred circle get each person to make a different beat/noise and guaranteed something sick will be created. I like beatboxing but im no good, i just fuck around when im bored. I learnt a couple of things from Felix when i was in Europe but i have no one to teach me here and not much motivation to learn online lol
Check out this Echo technique, Roxorloops (Belgian i think) trying to teach it to Rahzel. Filthy good
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9R-5VnZkoY4
EDIT: I have a problem hearing my own sounds accurately. Do you know that feeling when you are talking or beatboxing, and the sound you are hearing is much 'bassier' than usual? Or it goes in and out of being extra bassy? I guess its something to do with ears and pressure etc. Hard to explain. But it makes your sounds seem much better than they really are so its hard to get accurate idea of whats going on...

Yeh, but this is an 'effect' (for want of a better word) that seems to change from moment to moment, sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesnt. Its kind of like when your ears need to pop because of change in air pressure, you start hearing things differently. Thats what it feels like.
As i said its hard to explain... maybe its just me.

Beatbox takes the first place in my hobbies (bad word). i've been beatboxing since last summer and now I make gigs in clubs, shows with breakers and placed 1st in the Russian Student Spring contest with footbag+beatbox show =).
Ken: you should start with basic sounds: ts (hi-hat), b (kick) and snare - K or Pff or D
. You have to school them separetely like components in footpek, then you should combine them and control your breath.
It's easy like a cat for sure!
search youtube for Eklips, Faith SFX, Beardyman, Roxorloops - those are young and the most talented for sure. Killa Kela, Kenny M, Rahzel - old school brothers =).
and one more: check this (it's all from the mouth, no effects, just layering) http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemus ... dID=407214
and this humanbeatbox.com/tutorials - all that you need to know!
good luck, don't give up and make your own style

I go through beatbox phases. I really like to beat in my car.
But I think my ultimate fascination is with vocal scratch, which is definitely best practiced in solitude, because you always sound stupid when trying it out. I also just learned how to crab scratch (finally) a couple months ago. Really trying to incorporate this into beats.
A lot of my inspiration for beats comes from actually playing kit. I like being able to play kit without a kit, lol.
HUGE recommendation, make sure you get time in with a mic. Its a whole new world, esp at first, to beat with and without a mic (esp. vocal scratch)
