After starting a thread dissecting the Halo 3 beta containing plenty of quotes like this:
He's got the Halo 3 Beta for the 360. We played 6 online 6 vs 6 slayer/ctf/territories matches.
and
SMGs, well, they don't have the recoil anymore. I mean, why would you recoil? You're a Spartan in a metric ton of MJOLNIR armor, who can lift several tons. lol.
and
The Spartan Laser. Dubbed to be the new "newb stick" for Halo 3. Not true. There's a cool down time, limited ammo, and it's difficult to aim at close to mid range.
and
The Needler, no longer sucks, at all. Doesn't take much to kill someone, and the needles actually fallow people now. Can't dual wield it anymore though, but you don't even need to.
I think it's possible that you might just be a big enough geek to get into Magic. Give it a chance :)

Nah, that's just attention to detail, which, believe it or not, I'm very very good at doing. I notice very small things taht are out of place, or different. I know that in Halo 2, it takes 3 shots from a BR, anywhere on someone's body, and then 2/3 of a shot to the head from a BR to kill someone. (3 round burst, so only 2 of the 3 have to hit on the 4th shot to kill.) However, if say, it only took 3 and 1/3 shots from the BR in Halo 3 to kill someone, I would notice that instantly. I don't study that game, I just pick out details really well.

I've noticed my best abilities are recognizing sounds (lyrics, beats, noises), keeping good timing, attention to detail, and sense of direction. I've got an odd form of dyslexia, I have trouble reading numbers in order.
And I don't have a sense of photographic memory... at all. lol. I do, but it really sucks. And I have bad short term memory.

Back to the point. Halo is not a geek game, lol. Actually, now that I think about. I've only played with one geek on Halo before... My friend Dan, who is currently hooked on WoW. But he sucked at Halo, so yeah.

And I've tried Magic before. Dan tried getting me into it 4 years ago. I played one little match against him and, well yeah. I hated it. I turned around an popped in SSBM and burned the rest of the night away as he put together his new deck.

Anyone who burns my cards is going to owe me a lot of money. That is if they get close enough to them

I'm sure they're not really going to burn your cards. I honestly do think Magic is pretty lame, but I'm sure everyone here is just giving you guys shit.

I'm afraid I have to contradict you on this matter. ANY game is a geek game it just depends on how much you play it.
Actually we would have to parse the word "geek" before saying what is a "geekish" game at all but if you search on dict.leo (which is among or even the best dictionnary/ies on the net) it says: (in german)

-Stubengelehrter (from German to English this would mean something like this : "A parlor-academic")

-Computerfreak (doesn't need a translation I hope)

-Streber (other words are : "Grind", "Nerd" or "Smug")

so anyone who likes to play games (because we can broaden from computers to consoles here) would be a geek and so Halo (no matter which part) would definitely be a geek game...

Eric Reile's rip into switch kicker at the top of the page is so priceless.

I have Fred blocked now so I don't know if he contested fiercely, doesn't matter since he'd just be making it clear he is wrong and stupid on another issue.

Magic is actually pretty awesome. I had the fortune/misfortune of living with two raging magic geeks (pengpeng and joel) for the last year and I picked up enough along the way to be able to play a deck without too much instruction.

Switch kicker should look into magic, most the people at magic stores are exactly his kind, socially innept jerks that can't get along with anyone.

WHile I agree Tom that most of his posts are "jerky", I guess that's a word, in his defense his post wasn't even half as hostile as they normally are. It was more descriptive of his attention to detail than anything. That's a matter of perception of course, but compared to his usual posts, this one was quite pleasant in comparison.

On the subject of Magic... My brother gave me some cards a LONG time ago to hold onto, I have no clue if he even wants them still, but I looked them over and it seemed interesting. Granted, I'd be much more interested in a round of Euchre. But I do find it interesting to watch. Plus, the pictures are pretty kick ass. ; )

Lol, just looked at your avatar. Gambit wants to burn your cards. :P

Maybe I should rephrase myself. I"m definitely a geek. I played Zelda, Mario, and many other Nintendo originals, religiously. I'm a pure gamer at heart. But Halo has never had that "geek" feel while I play it, not to mention, more jocks play that game than "geeks." But I guess everyone has their own view on this. =)

Anyone interested in some draft at worlds? It'll be like $10 a person.

I need to know if I need to buy a booster box.

I had (and probably still do somewhere at home) my noob black discard deck that I built to piss off my friends and their stupid green creature decks. Megrim / bottomless pit/ rack/ hypnotic spectre/dark ritual esque. I'm pretty sure the last two cards are banned though.

I absolutely loved the game, but unfortumately I only ever met two people who played who weren't a) insane nerds, or b) insane assholes, or even c) insanely both. I tried to stick with it but the culture just became too much and I quit... very glad of that decision, although I miss the game sooo much :(
I had the exact same experience. I actually wanted to get into it again in January, but I gave up after my frist friday night magic session.

I'm basically into chess right now. that is, if I can be into anything with final exams looming.

It is funny, two of the places near me for fnm. One place plays 40+ cards and all the other places play 60+. I don't know if any of you run into this problem? What is your preference? I like 60 more.
