Moving away from stupid negative post x1000...
So, like my current blog title says, I'm still playing. I didn't play so well up at GRASS at the end of April, so I just thought that since I sprained my ankle the week before that event (and again at the tournament site) I was going to reconsider playing until I was confident in my condition and physique. I missed Jersey Spike this year for this; I heard it was a lot of fun. Even so, during the 2-3 weeks I was injured, I tried my best to exercise and perform some therapy for my feet.
Walking properly was a bit hard. To tell you the truth, for more than a decade I haven't walked on my bare feet. I always wore sandals and whatever. Y'know, the whole stupid Asian stigma of keeping the floor clean in your household: don't walk in your home with your shoes on, wear sandals or socks, blah blah blah. Anyway, when I tried walking barefooted, my feet would arch a bit inwards, and my balance was seriously poor. I think I read some Czech player saying that Vasek has so much crank that he can't walk properly barefoot; I kinda felt the same way. Whether it was for real or not, I took these two weeks relearning how to 'walk.'
I even busted out my flat reed sandals to take the time to walk barefooted during these summer days. I felt free. Didn't play much hack.
My first actual footbag session was yesterday evening. The sun was still blazing hot out, with the day's high at a whopping 82 degrees. It felt like bliss (I absolutely love hot days). Five people showed: Ted Fritsch, Pascal Tomecek, Josh Penney, Jonah, and myself. Ken David made an appearance, but he was with a hot girl so I doubt he wanted to be sweaty and all that. Anyway, I had alot of fun! My game felt really controlled, like, I didn't have much problems with sets like I normally do. I didn't feel very panicky. I have to thank Paul Agostinelli for pointing out my bad habit of hitting moves while they're still uptime. I really think that helped alot. David Clavens pointed that out to me in last year's Kickass, but I guess it never clicked on me until yesterday.
I attempted a lot of flipsided moves. The more prominent ones I wanted to note is flip paradon and flip atomic set. I tried barfly and had a nice clean dex but didn't seal it. I want to hit that move more and more and more! I also tried quantum and I almost got a clean dex in for the first time. I think that set looks promising for me if I put my heart into it. My pixies still need work; I keep setting it ready for a parkwalk instead of dimwalk, and vice versa, so that was very frustrating. I also tried neo backside guay and backside mirage I think: my butt, back and elbow keeps touching the bag during the set. I think that about covers it.
Pascal was playing very strong. His game really motivated me. He says he plays his best when he's really sweaty and tired. I wish I had that type of physical obligation to push myself further, but my ankle began to give out at the end of the session.
Man, I can't wait until I graduate from college. I can reserve so much time for footbag, it isn't funny. I'm a really hands-on person, and studying just doesn't cut it for me now that I think about it.
I've been doing some stitching here and there. Made a couple of 12 panels and sold them to hackers outside of college. I have an awesome 32 reserved for Ben Rea, but I'm still waiting for his payment to roll in. I have to stitch a bag for Marco Hartig! Argh! Final papers suck! I got like 3 pents completed and I still need to finish it! Marco, if you're reading this, don't fret. We're going to complete our trade one way or another.
Alright, enough with the long post. I have a paper to work on.

Waylon,
Good to read you are still playing and very positive about it. I don't get to see you play that often, so I only have a few brief memories of what you do. I strongly suggest you work on drills. Last I remember seeing you shred you were shooting for big moves and not long strings.
Here are a few example drills...
1) Legover > Illusion > repeat op side.
2) Pickup > Mirage > repeat op side.
4) Smear > Pixie Legover > repeat.
5) Paradox Mirage > Butterfly > repeat op side.
6) Paradox Illusion > Butterfly > repeat op side.
And so on... These may seem like really simple drills to some people, but try keeping these drills going for 20 contacts or more if you can. If you can hit paradox mirage when you are fully rested and prepared, then you know the move. What these drills do is teach you how to maintain your stamina and at the same how to perform these movements as you reach different levels of exhaustion. Try hitting paradox mirage when you are completely drained and you will see what I mean.
Keep up the good work.
Peace.

Yeah, for some time now I've been doing mirages COMPLETELY WRONG. I really want to work on them. Lately, I've been training to dex my legs in the opposite direction these days. I've only dex them to prepare for double downs and whatever.
Mike, I was inspired by the double mirages you were pulling out at the last day of GRASS. I really want to dex like that! And quantums too! But we all have to start somewhere, so I'll be taking your training regimen to heart.
Last day of classes! Several papers to complete, but... a ton of time to go out and play footbag! I can't wait. I want my skin to go completely sunburnt and tan from playing outdoors.

Yes. I'm just not visiting modified a lot.
Umm... things to work on/currently working on:
-paradon bsos. Josh Penney told me to work on kick set paradon. I think I've gotten the gist of it. Lately my double downs have been really "the" so I haven't really made the effort in schooling.
-legover > mirage > rpt.
-osis osis oiss osisuis djxisjsoood x|
-bs pixie (parkwalk, dimwalk, smear, whatever)
-pixie ss reverse whirl (strong side only)
-neo backside guay (strong side only)
-whirls
-consecutive clippers
-atomic everything (legbeaters as of late, but also working on atom smasher, reverse reactor, atomic ss buttfly, etc.)
-PHOENIX (strong side only)
Most of the time when I'm playing, I think I suck. A bunch. My focus is way off, since I seem to drop on the simplest delays. Most of the time is because of incorrect form and vision problems. I just need time to adjust, but even that seems like an exaggerative excuse. I don't know... I guess you can say I'm losing a bunch of inspiration and stamina lately. Maybe the prospect of going to Worlds is getting into my head, and I'm feeling hella nervous.
I feel that I embarass myself a lot whenever I play footbag. My consistency is way low. Its kind of weird, since I'm usually a shameless person in general. Just developing this shameful facade of my own self-image is kind of eating away at me from the inside out. I don't know how I feel about this. It's nothing depressing or anything - it's actually the complete opposite. i just think it's a bit weird as I type this down.
I need to watch more shred videos. I haven't been interested in watching any shred vids lately. I think it's because Katya, a NYFA member, still has my copy of Sick'03, which is my favorite footbag shred vid compilation. It's not a big problem, per se, but it is a slight inconvenience.
I haven't stitched in a long time. I have so many orders backed up. People must be really pissed at me, but at the very least I haven't robbed anyone of any bags or money. I also need some of that glorious Mefix patching tape.
Still waiting up on money from Ben Rea. I feel that the bag I've stitched for him from this year's GRASS has become my own. Just hand kneading it away.
It's been one month since then. (Note: red text made as a warning that this bag might not be held in reserve for much longer. Sorry Ben. You're a good kid and all, but I don't like keeping other people's bags for too long, otherwise they stick on me.) I guess this and my need for Sick'03 is partially the cause for my stitching/footbag slack and whatever.
A lot of girls have been looking at me. Just yesterday an older woman was totally flirting at me. I think she was in her mid-late 20s. I was sitting down in the subway, tired from shred with Ted Fritsch, and she just stood right in front of me. She was an asian woman listening to the radio - beautiful face, nice figure and all, and she was giving me these cues, like, standing and inching towards where my gaze was and standing beside me and gently nudging her handbag at my shoulder. I was ENTHRALLED, mind you, but I was also tired. Needless to say, i missed my chance. She lives in Queens, and she came from the same stop I usually get off to go to my college campus. Things will happen... eventually. Ehh.
Life feels boring without weed. I'm going through withdrawal phases, but I'm actually starting to quit now. At least until Worlds.

Nonfootbag news:
I just found out today that my birthday, February 3rd, is actually setsubun. Setsubun is the japanese holiday in which you throw soybeans within your household and the area outside it, in which you yell out "Cast the demons out!" and "Bring luck in!" I think. I thought that was pretty cool.
Please, don't send me beans for my birthday!
I have a small garden outside my backyard. My grandmother has this group of rose stalks just growing up and over, like a rainbow in a way, and it's nearly covered in roses. I think today is the time in which they are fully mature and beautiful. I could trim a few and give to someone, but, I haven't found the right person yet I guess.
It's drizzling right now. Summer rain where it just drizzles like this is perfect for footbag, I think. It's a shame that my back feels sore from my session yesterday. Nothing productive really, I tried to work on my consistency. I only remember feeling out of breath around 4:30-5:00 pm. It felt good.
Oh, and it seems like there's a four-square court (!) drawn out at Washington Park. Ken, myself, Luis (from Cornell), Stan and Aaron (Jon Schneider brought him into footbag) played a few rounds. My kicks sucked and I was easily faked out. Sneaky Ken... lol. I had a few comebacks though, which were fun. I only got up to 6 points.
I think we're going to play at Washington Park next weekend. That, or I steal some chalk from college so we can mozy over to some place with better shade.

I'm hoping to kick on Wednesday evening. I think the Ceiling Fan will be in D-town with Ted Fritsch and a few other kickers.
Things to hit list:
-mirage > ss mirage > legover > rpt.
-infinities x10
-osis x10
-anything and everything (that is fundamentally) flip.
I found a few photos in my HD from Ben Roscoe when we were chatting a bit on MSN. A few pictures of Taishi, Ben, Chris Obara and the whole footbagging gang from last year's Funtastiks. It looked seriously cool. It'll help me to wake up and motivate myself to hit longer, harder, and more focus.
I've been playing with too much malice these days. Jon Schneider called me out on it 2 weeks ago at Central Park during a Reggae festival, but I couldn't really pinpoint on what exactly. Maybe it 's my ankle sprain, or my consistency, or just a lack of inspiration in general. I think it's everything combined into one demonic force. I need to be more cheery and push forward! Even if I have to bail on... ugh... toe. lol
To end on a good note, here's a pic of a Pipenburg bag and my beat-up Lonn:

I think I'm just going to stitch 10 bags for Worlds and charge them at a higher price. The wacky designs I'm thinking of will be totally worth it, I think.
edit: Reading Tom's blog boosted my love for footbag! My legs are getting restless.
edit2: For stitchers/players who want to know a small tidbit, Tungsten has a tendency to loose its weight value much more than other materials during every wash. All of that black gunk that washes away is probably worth a few decimal grams as the filler breaks in (about 0.3-0.8 grams, depending on how you wash your bag and what filler is inside). This only applies if the chrome/tint exterior is rub away, exposing the Tungsten core so that it is exposed to water during washing cycles. It's hard to say, but unless I have Bismuth on me, I think lead is probably the most consistent in filling bags for a controlled weight, unhealthy as it may be. Steel is always my preference, but people hate rust, so there's that sense of opposition for it.

I hit:
-infinity x3-4
-mirage x2 > legover rpt. alot.
-PHOENIX after 3-4 tries.
Although I was mostly trying to train my left leg since that's my weak side sometimes. Parkwalk, neo ss butterfly, flip pixie somewhere here and there - that about covers it. I was satisfied that my focus is gradually returning whenever I try to set from my strong side atomic. Lately, I always seem to get the bag snagged into my knee pit, or that I set it way too far into my side (perfect for atomic spinning, but I don't want to worry about spinning these days). I had one clean whirl, though, so I'm beginning to understand how to set/dex for that move.
The weather was beautiful yesterday. I had a lot of fun playing 4 square with Ken, Luis, Pascal and Sebastian (a promoter of Miyachi). Sebastian had a lot of sick variations in his repertoire - I wish I could osis like him. I have to school my clippers until they're joke.
I have to go stitch bags, for NYFA. Otherwise I'm going to be blacklisted for my tardiness. lol

SERIOUSLY?!?! Thanks for the heads up Waylon. We were going to go track down some tungsten of our own. Lead dust, tungsten dust... creeps me out. I really don't want to breathing in any metalic dusts. Silicosis, fibrosis... ::shudder:: It scares me more than bathing in or eating the stuff. Stainless steel doesn't rust. Glass doesn't wear away.Wasabi wrote: edit2: For stitchers/players who want to know a small tidbit, Tungsten has a tendency to loose its weight value much more than other materials during every wash. But I'm glad you're looking up with footbag. I'm drilling a bunch too. We could be drill buddies. I think I can hit your mirage > legover drill. I'll get back to you on that.

I've been out of the loop in all things footbag lately. Information, modified, etc. I've just been playing simple links with NYFA and stitching in private.
I have this exam in June 23rd that I'm really going to take an entire week to prepare seriously so that I don't bomb it. It's the CUNY Proficiency Exam (CPE) that all CUNY (city university of NY) students must take in order to graduate. You only get three chances to take this exam during your entire undergraduate career. It's a simple exam, but the reason why I really want to be extremely studious for this is because 1) I didn't do so well the first time and 2) I missed my next two chances in taking it. Therefore, I'm initially on appeal to take it on my fourth try. Getting a fifth try is extremely rare, so I really want to do well. I also want to graduate as well.
I will be stitching bags during the entirety of next week though, but only through private private orders (IRL). Aaron Gerlich, a kicker that Jon Schneider introduced to footbag since last year I believe, requested 2 32s from me, and I'm just taking my time on it. Using ribstitch cord, I feel very pleased with the results of my stitching (although I get a bit fussy with tangled thread every now and then, unlike with floss). Still, I like how my bags feel with this thread, so whatever.
I downloaded a bunch of videos off of Anssi T. Sundberg's profile under footbag dot org. I'm way overdue on my footbag homework.
I really want to prepare as much as I can before Worlds and impress all of my footbag friends, and I think Anssi can help me with 'Anz' Trikz.'
I... still haven't booked my flight for Worlds yet. I'm still looking for a great and affordable price with my air miles. I'll be going to a travel agency sometime next week, with my aunt.
I love beer.
edit: Polish food and beer - SO GOOD. Commence nappy time.

Buying a ticket on United dot com - easy.
Transferring air miles from one account to another ON United dot com? - BITCH.
I've been having a frustrating experience trying to buy plane tickets from United. It's a real sore to my brain. Seriously, and I'm sure Ken Somolinos and Barrett can confirm my frustration on this - I've been trying to figure everything out since last Thursday. I've been trying very VERY hard to work everything out since Ken's shoot at Washington Square Park. So far there hasn't been much success. They're just trying to leech as much money out of my pocket as much as possible. I'm getting seriously worried about going to Worlds with all of these obstacles.
Footbag wise I've been schooling tiltless over and over again. Mirage > Legover > flip > rpt. Clippers, infinities, etc. Some osis. Haven't touched Paradox mirage just yet (my clipper form doesn't leave much to suspend my leg into proper paradox and miraging form just yet). I'm trying to avoid hitting big before I get to Worlds, and I LOVE hitting big. But my shred priorities is to get the fundamentals down comfortably, and Ken, Pascal, Bruce and a few NYFA members have been a huge help.
Stitching wise I'm working on two bags for Aaron Gerlich. After him, I'll be stitching a bag for Barrett. Then after him, one of each for Jonah Bruno (NYFA), Josh Penney (NYFA), and Brian Diams (NYFA? He's from Hoboken). Benny Kellman as well, but I haven't had much contact with him at all. I'm completely booked. I'm sure there are other orders, but I don't have stitchers log to post up on this blog. I do have one thing to note: I'm SO SORRY, Marco Hartig. I know we agreed on a trade like, a couple of months ago, and I'm seriously regretting my tardiness. If you come to Worlds, I'll give you a big hug, and the bag as promised. If not, I'll send it your way as soon as I can. Local orders are stressing me out.
So far, I'm rocking the rib-stitch cord. I can't thank Ben Roscoe enough for this contribution. I really like how my bags feel with this thread, but I do have some positive criticisms. It's just the usual matters that frustrate people with conventional threads: tangles, split-ends, bunching. However, it perfroms superb, and definitely a 1-up from floss. And I still like stitching with floss.
A week ago, I taught the cutest, gentlest japanese girl on how to play hacky. She's from my class this past Spring semester. I can't really read her, but I think she's really shy. She's good friends and a co-worker of my cousin. She's an avid jogger. I need to keep in touch with her.
Recently, I took the CPE exam. The essay was about food and culture, using Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation) and Margaret Visser as the components for the first task, a compare/contrast essay. I'm not feeling very confident in the format of my essay, but I think it went well. The second task composed of graphs and an article in which you find claims that either support/partially support/contradict from the article to the graphs. I freakin' aced that shit.
I wish i had more paper, though. I literally filled that portion up (up to 8 claims, the last being an inference claim which can earn bonus points if successful!). I seriously hope i did well. I want to graduate out of this stupid college.
I want some Polish food again.
I need to cut my hair. Maybe I'll turn out to look like Ken's doppleganger (there's a story behind this, but I'm not yping it in my blog - in fear that Ken will edit this post.
)
Feeding stale bread to the ducks at the park. Scouting for a girl is likely.
edit: People in NYFA are requesting me to put a logo on my 32s. I think the concept is stupid and silly, personally. EVERYONE is putting logos on their bags. I consider putting a logo on your bag a mark of an organization of sorts, in which Footfighters and Planetfootbag fit the bill nicely (plus their logos look boss, imo, from whatever else I've seen). Holly's look okay, but I doubt many people can hit anchor (the logo insinuates that you at least try to hit anchor with her bags). Pengpeng's logo is really cute: P to the second power. Abshire's is by far the coolest, with an egyptian eye tag that looks like an 'A.' Very creative.
What logo should I put on my bags? NYFA members were discussing this with me this past Saturday. Katya insisted on putting a penguin tat on my bags, which are pretty cool (penguins, that is), but doesn't define the 'Wasabi' or 'Wayway' monicker I've put on my bags. And i don't want to mooch off of Peng's logo either with 'Wayway.' Something close to WWE, maybe? Not sure. And a Wasabi root on a panel on my bag? Not likely. These are my reasons why I wouldn't want to put a tag on my bags, really. Anyway, this is all just silly talk from me.

I'm glad you liked the polish food!
I'm sorry that things got confused that Sunday also. I was happy to see you hitting those longer strings the day before.
As soon as I got back from NYC my left hip was killing me! Now it's still pretty sore and I haven't been able to school my recently aquired skill of stepping. It seems as soon as I learned it I abused it. Been schooling other things well though.
Don't mess around with that exam hombre! That seems ludicrous that there is some sort of generic test in the way of your paid-for-degree, especially since it's a city college.
If you need any help with anything school-wise just email me. I had a lot of college.
God I want some polish food! The food in NYC is so good. Whenever I return to PGH I feel spoiled.
I'm gonna spend tomorrow doing tiltless drills with a new potential member of SCF. I'll be doing all the drills that I think you should be doing in when you aren't doing those crazy neo/ducking-pixie things I can't.
Oh yeah, the Steel City is in need of some bags. Right now I am swamped doing some graphics for Barret, a potential icon for a commercial product, and tightening my portfolio, but I still find time to kick, and it sucks when theres lead and Tungston flying everywhere. So please put me on your list for October, or whenever. Hell, I just might start sowing.
