I missed the actual 2nd circle contest. Here I am in Australia while some of my footbag buddies are having fun in Montreal, my 2nd hometown. Preparing for Worlds which I wont attend, I'm going to the Gold Coast instead, selling art on the beach and talking shit with those Auzzies...
I'm jealous in a way, I love that footbag community feeling, but man do I love being on the road travelling and meeting heaps of people that are travelling. I even almost have a girlfriend now which is great!!!

I had no idea you play guitar! that was a nice surprise, I hope we can jam out at worlds with Tom. He's off to a great start. We are gonna have one jammin house.

had a bad session yesterday. Thought I'd give climacools a try again. It was a bit muggy out, so I was covered in sweat in no time, and I was wearing taller socks than usual, which became ENTIRELY saturated and weighed me down big time. I worked long tiltless strings almost the entire time. I should have taken the day off. I will today. I need a day to recuperate from Montreal. I seriously didn't hit shit yesterday. But, I sweated out a lot of water, got a work out. So it wasn't the end of the world. Ended with rubberman first try and both whirlwinds.
Yesterday, I recorded two of my unrecorded songs using my digital camera in my dark room. My bird, Bill, sings a bit on the song called say the word. I've got a thread in Arts and Leisure for my music videos, please check it out - (http://www.modified.in/footbag/viewtopic.php?t=15833) I would like very much to know what people think, even if it's criticisms. I got some good critiques on the last ones. It would be great to get more. I'm glad about the songs, I like them both. I hope some baggers like them.
Then, I had some drinks with my landlord and played more guitar, then went downstairs and watched Elliott Smith videos on youtube and went to bed like a good boy. And now here I am, back at work. back on the fizzied.

jerk comments are in the eye of the beholder. I thought it was super funny and ballsy of you, which I liked. I'm glad I got to be friends with you and the other newer players from TO. I know it can be a little weird when you're first getting into the tournament scene and you meet more experienced players, but I want you guys to all know that the older, more experienced players were ALWAYS nice and welcoming and accepting and helpful to me, and that it brings me happiness to try and be the same way for the next generation. it's the footbag way
no footbag yesterday. Instead, I drove just past buffalo to go to a cafe called the Clarence Center Coffee Company Cafe. They were having an open mic, hosted by one of the most important music business lawyers in Buffalo (and a very good friend of some very good friends of mine). I played a 5 song set, starting with my instrumental rendition of Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd, then, my song So Bright (from the footbag video, with about double the beatboxing at the beginning), then So Gone (posted in my music vids thread), then my song Victory Gin, then my song Losing Daylight. I was pretty well received, and sold a CD, and gave one to an enthusiastic rep from a local radio station that plays lots of local music. Then, I went up to the bar for a glass of wine, and talked to the booking guy, and scheduled a gig for June 16th. How exciting! Hopefully, Nora will come and rock it with me. We will see.
Well, I just got a call from London. here's the story so far:
- They called me asking me to come. I said I could do it.
- Jorden posted, telling me I should ask for money, which got me thinking, and I decided to do that.
- No response from London for a few days.
- I wrote back asking for their thoughts.
- They said they were still into it, and we would look at flights.
- Flights turned out to be PRICEY, and they wrote me and said that they can't make it work, and if I would please help find someone closer.
- I said I would help find someone closer, but that I was sad that it wouldn't work out, and that if it was absolutely necessary, I would do the filming for no pay.
- I JUST received a call from London, and they said that, even though the flight puts them considerably over budget, that they want me involved. So, they're booking the flights, and as it stands, I'm going.
When the product is released in the US, the distributors will need a person to do demos, and they'll need someone to organize demo teams, and with my association with the product, and my face on the worldwide commercials, hopefully I will be the person to do just that.
So, london, here I come, hopefully.
No footbag tonight either; it's guitar lesson night. Thursday will be another Buffalo session, weather permitting. I need to stitch, bad. I owe Alan Underhill a bag, and I want to make money at worlds... Well, I'm without some of the particular distractions that keep me from stitching, maybe I can do some tonight / tomorrow. It's just the cutting of the panels that holds me back. I hate that part. I think everyone does.

Hey Alan! thanks for the post. I swear I'll stitch something soon. Also, your bag will be the first on which I make a small change that should have some big results: I'm going to switch from double to single floss, per the recommendation of a few friends who know what they're doing with a needle. I also might make a template change. Not sure. the single floss should make my bags a good bit softer. I like how my bags turn out now, but a bit more stally would be nice. I'm really glad you like my song, I was pleased with that tune as well. It's one of the most easily-written songs I've ever had. I wrote it kind of as a challenge to myself that I didn't really take seriously, but I still ended up making something out of it that I could be pleased with. What do you think of the two new ones?

I will not be paid for this trip, but travel, lodging, intra-city transport, food, and drink will be covered, and as the schedule indicates, I'll be there until sunday, and all the filming is on wednesday. So, I've got a bit of a vacation out of it, but i could still see my expenses mounting :/ David has said, "we'll see what we can do about paying you", which I take as a deferment of saying "sorry, we won't be paying you", but I don't want to come right out and acknowledge that, or he definitely won't be paying me.
I really don't want to focus on that. This is going to be a great experience, and having my face on the commercial is going to be a great asset when the US distribution gets going and they need someone here in the states to be the point person for this product. I'll just have to make sure to observe a budget. It would be great to do some open mics, which reminds me, my guitar case is completely unfit for flight!!! fuck! maybe I can arrange to take it as my only carry-on. I guess, worst-case scenario, I will duct-tape that thing closed and hope for the best. I will look ridiculous, but I guess I already do with a falling-apart guitar case.

I hope everyone will check on my music videos thread in Arts and Leisure. I just posted what I honestly think are two of my best songs, and I've gotten zero response on modified. Ben Benulis and Caleb Abraham commented on my youtube pages, which was awesome of them. I'd just like to hear from more baggers, that's all.

Alan, I'll be in London for 5-6 days, not a month. that would be epic. what would I do?!
I've spoken to Jack Lentz, and he is indeed picking me up for the session tonight. I can't wait to get out to buffalo and rock out. I'll have to go a little lighter on the energy drinks and a little heavier on the fruits and other energy foods. maybe some chips. I feel that I'm coming down with a bit of a head cold, but I'm going to take some zinc and vitamin C and tough it out! it's time to shred! I want to hit a new beastly link, I think I could do food > whirlwind, and whirlwind > mullet. and I keep forgetting about my old friend voodoo. I'm looking forward to getting out and promoting the game to some eager young faces. Thus far I have heard from no one from rochester, which makes me sad, but I hope I am surprised when I get there with some friends.

buffalo was bunk. The experience as a whole was very good, but the actual play was no good. on thursday, Jack and Dan picked me up, and we drove out and had a nice chat and returned some bottles and discussed our views on the direction freestyle is going. Neither of us are fans of the add system. I told jack and dan about my upcoming london adventure, they were psyched for me. I drank some energy drink and ate some chips on the way there.
We started with some hacky slack, and I played a little in my new superstars. I hit ripwalk in them. These are they. i love them. they are samples, so SUPER rare (I'm getting to be a bit of a rare adidas whore).
then, we moved over to the more happenin' hack spot. Vince, the hot shot from last week was there, as was his cousin who can also do some cool inside stall moves. I introduced myself to vince the week before by saying "hey, those are cheater shoes" because he had the same pair of green stripey modded lavers as me. He got the joke right away, so, no weirdness. Anyway, he was playing well. Hopefully, he will learn about drilling and bothsidedness and good style soon. Maybe he'll find modified.
So, we played for a bit, but it was windy and dusty (TERRIBLE combo) and no other freestylers were there, so I didn't really get to get my game on, unfortunately, but we had some fun, strengthened our connections with some of the locals, and hit the road. We buzzed home and had a beer at EBC and shared footbag stories and raised our glasses to the sport we all love a few times. it was a pleasure to see Dan and Jack. I learned a little bit more about Dan and his life thus far. He's a more complex guy than he lets on with his happy-go-lucky attitude.
So, I didn't play much last week, and today was my first session since thursday. I played for 2.5 hours. here are the highlights -
- First minute of my routine planned and dropless, all right on the beat with choreography along with the lyrics in a few spots.
- [fear > smear > atom] > rpt > string after not very many tries. starting on strong toe, which is the hard side for me to start that on. This was in response to my friend Mike Anello telling me that I should really work on more repeat combos if I want to step my game up. Thanks Mike.
- spender > mullet BS
- food > spender OS
- food > spender > mullet OS (first beast, flip will come soon. flip food needs work)
and some good strings here and there, too. Still haven't beat my tiltless record of 60. I think it would be great to have a tiltless rippin run sideline contest at worlds.
what else... both vortexes, both maelstroms, both whirlwinds all came easily.
So, all in all, a good session. Also had a good acoustic guitar session before hand, I think I'll go have an electric guitar session now.
Can't wait for worlds. See you all soon.

thanks kevin and aleksei I'm glad some of you noticed. It felt really good to hit a beast and then write about it. beasts are a fun thing to say you hit. I can't wait to get it on the flip. I know I can. The one I hit yesterday was strong > flip > flip, so if I can just get that start first link, it will be flip > strong > strong.
Just got in from a session jack, dan, and dan. we did a demo for some kids at a local job corp. It's about 10 minutes by car from my house! how convenient! We had a good time, hit some fun tricks, dan and I had a bit of fun challenging each other and breaking balls on drops. I didn't really get to fully warm up, but I had some funnish strings, and ended the session with both symp flurries (haven't done those in a while, but they're not so hard if you can symp whirl).
Then we went to EBC and had a pitcher and shared footbag stories like last time. this summer is shaping up to have us getting together once or twice a week, which makes me really psyched, because they're great guys to kick and talk with. I love having other scenesters to get together with.
I just watched the video that the RIT sportszone made of the RIT Spring Juggle-In / GRASS, and it was awesome! I couldn't believe how much exposure and time they gave to footbag. even though footbag was just one fraction of what was going on at the event, they gave it about equal interview and video time as all the other juggling stuff together, with LOTS of clavens ("klavins") interview footage!! so cool. everyone check out the RIT footblog for the link to the video! or maybe mike will post it.
