Hey Mathieu! It was nice to meet you too. You won't be intermediate for long!
Nice pics Jon. That breakfast was delicious! I'm so glad I woke up to do that. That walk was a highlight for me.
Josh and I had a great session today. I worked hard on a bunch of concepts, and hit gyro mirage- which was nice. Almost hit it flip ... next time. Josh hit smog bs and fog, I believe, as well as some other new stuff. Go Josh! We met some cool guy named Fire Phoenix who is into juggling, footbag, fire and circus-type stuff. He has some crazy moves. They all ended with him flipping onto his back or doing a hand-stand. I gave him a flyer. Hope he comes out to sessions.

For sure. Send me pictures if you want them on the site.
I want to keep the momentum going from the weekend. I'm gonna play ALL the time that I'm not working, eating, pooping or sleeping - including tomorrow from 10am-1pm if anybody would like to join me.

I don't have any pictures...so I encourage everyone to send their pictures to Mike so we can all enjoy them!!
Session in my basement today - all clippers. They are getting much better. I haven't hit clipper > clipper BSOS yet because my good clipper is retarded...lol...but I have hit it flip > good. My same side clipper is getting better...much better than before. A few more practice sessions devoted to clipper and they will be part of my normal shred. Yay! Other than that, I'll c y'all soon!!
I'm going to start practicing daily!

Here we go all! The FAT perspective write-up of Montreal.
For Alex and I, the trip started when Mike and Jon picked us up at my place around 1pm. The van was very nice. There was lots of leg room, thought no DVD player so we couldn't watch wicked shred vids on our way. There was, however, a super-cool GPS device that shows where you are, where you're going, and where you have to turn. At the time I couldn't imagine driving with it, though, thinking it would be too distracting. I mean, it's so cool! It talks! It shows you within meters of your actual destination! Enough of the damn magic box though.
We had a couple stops to make. Camille was the first one. We waited for her to arrive at the Markham Road McD's and chowed down a little and talked about the dangerous ravine beside the establishment and the lack of security rails. It was raining. Once Camille got there we loaded up and headed to pick up Andrew and Cassy in Oshawa. The poor kids; they;d been waiting over an hour for us, and nobody had other people's phone number, so they didn't know what time to expect us. It was all good once we got there though, as we had a full van and even fuller spirits. Can spirits be full? I guess mine was!
The rest of the drive was super smooth and more or less uneventful. Mike and I switched driving duties a little past Kingston, and I realized the GPS wasn't so bad. It did get us right where we needed to go. We let out a big shout of "Bienvenue a Quebec!" when we crossed the provincial border. A few minutes later, Alex asked slowly... "Are we in Quebec yet?"
We arrived at around 8:00pm I think. After we checked in to our AWESOME suite at the UQAM, we headed over to Place des Arts to meet up with everyone. The rest of the crews had been playing most of the day though, so we shredded a few minutes and left for the suite accompanied by our roomies, Matt Cross and Chris Dean. After a good amount of partying, some of us went to Foufs, an amazing little club, but I'm not much of a club dude, so I hung back with the youngins. I wanted an early night, though, because of comps the next day. I had a good sleep.
Saturday morning we went grocery shopping, picking up some essentials, most of which we didn't have time to eat that morning. We did munch a couple baguettes and some apples though. We were anxious to get going to the gym where the circles would be held.
A short Metro ride later, we found the place. Well most of us did. Mike and some others got lost when some of us ducked in to a "Couche-tard" for coffee... but they showed up not long after us.
Kolo Sport had a cool booth set up with t-shirts and Footfighters. I drooled over them for a short while, paid my money to compete, and started to play. Note to self: Coffee + Shred = Sweat.
A bunch of 4-square and circle shredding went on until the comps got started around 2:00 pm. I was in the first intermediate circle with Cassy, Mike, and Mathieu Soucy. I'll take a moment to say now that of all the Montreal Crew that I met, this guy stood out overwhelmingly in my mind. His English isn't as bad as he thinks, because he comes across as very keen (to use a Mosherism) and a good guy altogether. Although he denies it, I'm sure the cast on his arm limited his abilities at least to some degree. This being his first competition, however, he fell prey, in my opinion, to trying to go to big to fast, and was eliminated. If you're reading this, Mathieu, I love your style and confidence. You remind me of me when you drop. You can never believe it, and I like that.
After the second Int. circle I took a breather and watched the Open circles. Jorden rocked crazy hard. I'm not sure if I like the format of the Open comp... but I'm sure I would if I were that good. Since there were 3 preliminary Open circles, I ducked out for the third one to warm up again. I had made the Int. Finals.
Although I was shaking, knowing I could possibly win this time after a disappointing performance at KICKASS2, I sat down, got into my Zen kind of area, took deep breaths, and got ready. The finals were Cassy, Camille, Skippy, and myself. Skippy's first run scared the shit out of me, it was long and pretty strong. Luckily, i set a good pace for myself, hitting a really good diverse 20 contact tiltless string ending with spinning handcatch. I truly believe this saved me, making up for more than one 2 contact > drop run out of 7 runs. I guess it was enough, though, and I won my first footbag title. YAY! FAT represent! Skippy took 2nd, Cassy 3rd, and Camille 4th. I'm very proud of my homegirls. Way to go with strong runs and unique style! The GTA shredita scene may just be the strongest in a large area.
After the prize ceremonies, we all cleaned up and headed back to Place des Arts for a 4-square tourny. All I can say is, man, French dudes love 4-square. I'm falling in love myself. Though I didn't even come close to making the finals there, I had a really great time! The highlight for me was a hack-off between me and Jorden, which took a good few minutes with lots of tricky kicks and saves for both of us. He did win the hack-off, but I'm not bitter. It was fun just to go 1-on-1 with the Destroyer, hehe.
Saturday night was marked by the most fun, relaxing times I've had in a while. There was more beer, and a wicked-fun "competition" between myself and Matt Cross, which, as he's said, ended in a most victorious tie, with both of us and all the room winning. His and Andrew Langstaff's guitar added to the fun. I was impressed with Andrew's riffing skills. Though I wanted to play that guitar all weekend, I never really did, and now I'm kinda glad, because I got to listen to these guys instead.
With the pad littered with bottle caps, empties, and stank, a bunch of people headed back out to Fouf's. Again I stayed in. I had a couple more beers left anyway, so why pay more? I do kinda wish I'd at least checked it out, but I promised myself I will next year. Sore legs and hazy brain led to bed before too long.
Sunday morning was nice and chill. Mike and Jon, who had gone pastry hunting the morning before, brought Cassy, Andrew and I to a cool bakery... which was closed on Sundays. Darn. We did find a cafe soon, though, and I got a sweet baguette with cheese. I also tried Alex's bubble tea from a seemingly authentic asian shop, which was my first experience with the stuff, and I have to say I'm a fan based on my current experience. Erik, if you're reading this, I'm sorry I never experienced bubble tea with you. Next time, my friend.
When we got back to UQAM it was almost check-out time. We roused the late sleepers (all Foufes I think) and I made up the dozen eggs we'd bought the day before. I was happy to do it, as I consider myself an egg master more or less, skilled in the art of spatula-less flippage. I only screwed up once, breaking Matt's yolk. Sorry Matt, I hope it was good nonetheless.
After checking out (i.e. collecting and bagging garbage, inconspicuously dumping the empty bottles, and gathering keys) we loaded up the van and headed back to Place des Arts for a farewell session. I tried to play but was VERY VERY sore. So I sunbathed. Jon and Camille had the most energy, and we stayed until about 3:00 pm. After saying our goodbyes, we went back to the van and prepared to depart. After blowing off an irate Frenchman who claimed we owed him $10 (just for clarification, we don't think we did) we were on our way back home. I drove for the first bit, then handed the reigns over to Mike again.
I can’t comment on the drive after Mike took over; I was sleepy. Although Camille and I did try out some dual rocking (both of us with earphones playing separate songs). That was fun. All in all, it was one of the best weekends I’ve had in a while. Thank you to everyone I met, saw, and played with. Special thanks to Kolo, the Montreal crew, the Rochester crew, who all made this a great FAT tourney full of fun. All the best to all of you.

Haha, I definitely know what you mean, I have in mind all those surprisedIf you're reading this, Mathieu, I love your style and confidence. You remind me of me when you drop. You can never believe it, and I like that.
And I definitely have to agree with you that I tried going too big in the comp. I guess that's why we learn from experience.
It was fun meeting you too and hope to see you soon at another event this summer.
Nice resume and write-up.
I'll definitely remember this week-end as a great one.
