spend more time SHREDDING or SCHOOLING?
its kind of been on my mind lately, since i got no one here in wichita i was wondering what everyone does, do you guys spend more time schooling new moves or shredding....
this just my opinion but it would seem that both have advantages,,, shred more often and you get longer runs, school more often and you learn new stuff....i would imagine that you get to a point where you just shred, but there is always that one trick you wish you could do i suppose.

when I play alone, I skool, mostly getting my flipside up to speed these days. when I play with others, I'm more shreddy, but I still try to remain conscious of variety, style, and both-sidedness. It's definitely possible to skool while shredding, but it's more of a zen thing than when you're playing alone, I think...

I hate schooling, and I love to shred.
I have no one near my level to shred with, so I get tired while shredding to easy.
I hate my flip pixie and fairy and the balance of my flip clip.
So, I've been learning to school while shredding to encorporate this stuff, but I have to school more than I like but I wish instead that I just had people to shred with all the time. That is the biggest reason I envy Vasek, they play constantly, I wish I could too.

Yeah, I don't shred very often. It's constant schooling.
Also, I don't like the, "Shred more, and you'll get longer runs." That seems counter-intuitive to me. If I school more stuff like doing 50 Mirages both sides, then 50 Legovers both sides, then etc, then how is it possible that it wouldn't lengthen my runs? If I school linking tricks...like... :
Mirage > Legover > hand catch 50 times
Mirage > Pickup > hand catch 50 times
Mirage > ss Butterfly > hand catch 50 times
Mirage > opp Butterfyl > hand catch 50 times!!!
ETC. !
MANY COMBINATIONS !
BOTH SIDES !
See what I'm getting at here? This is how I practice. I learn the trick first, then learn linking it together with one other trick, either first or second. When I'm comfortable with that, I begin linking it with two other tricks (first, second, or third of the three).
Therefore: Schooling = longer runs (for me anyway)

I believe that shredding does in fact lengthen ones runs. It allows the player to use a large variety of tricks, including both side bails like butt, osis, and pdx mirage inorser to keep short runs longer, and long runs very long. Always schooling does not help the length of ones runs unless that schooling involves learning moves into and out of every other move. Conversely, after skoolin a move, if you start shredding, you will lean to throw that move into your runs ad link into and out of it. Shredding has helped me to increase the length of my rune I believe. Skooling allows me to hit crowd pleasing big tricks and work both sides.

I dont really know what to put. So i went with the 'both' selection. I guess since i've been practicing allot more by myself the line between the two has become fuzzy. I usually start out doing really easy BSOS combos and then after i do the combos a couple times through i start trying differnt stuff untill i drop. i.e: butter>osis>pdx>leg over>repeat on other side> then goinginto some 4 adds and occational 5's...

i skool when i play alone. i play better when i play alone. because if there is a trick or a combo i want to hit. i wont stop until i have hit it. i shred when i play with derek. i have WAAAAY more energy when i play with someone else. because it is double a great feeling when i hit something big or bust a super run, when there are two people who enjoyed it. you know? it would be so much harder to try to hit a 5 > 5 combo, or the beast, on my own. so i usually dont even bother.
i do skool when i play with derek too though.
i dont know if shredding gave me longer runs though. one day i could suddenly go a LOT longer. and ever since butterfly has been the easiest move in the world. i bail a lot more. unconsciously. and i can hit like a 20 move run pretty easy.
which also makes it a little easier to shred now when im skooling. so i do a little. but its still skooling. cause i skool run lengths every solo session. to keep my consistancy.
