Lower Back / Pelvis Pain

Post by david »

About a month ago I developed something close to what Fletcher talks about here: http://www.modified.in/footbag/viewtopic.php?t=13368

I went to the doctor and she said to ice the area before and after playing, lay off moves that hurt (whirr), and rest. Should be gone in a week.

I did those things, plus some of the stretches people suggested in Flecther's thing, and it still hurts. I spent about 10 days not playing AT ALL because of my ankle and its still bad. It has been about a month since it happened.

Any advice?

I had a similar problem years ago. This is where it hurt.

(linked for NUDITY!)

Turned out that my pain was caused by a one-sided footbag game, specifically I was doing tonnes of pixies with my right leg and none with my left. I actually felt the same thing creeping back recently, this time from drilling in/out DATWS and double pickups on the right (don't be fooled, I suck at these moves). Luckily I was able to recognize and adjust before it affected my game.

While it's unlikely that you're playing with the kind of one-sidedness that I did (do), I guess it's worth thinking about, especially since you're probably favoring your turned ankle these days.

What kind of Dr. did you see? A general practitioner?

I had pain in the same spot as colin. I Gave it a few weeks of very light footbag, and as soon as the pain was not sharp I started abdominal work. Most back problems are caused by a weak core. Then New years jam came and I footbagged for many hours and rehurt the back during sick trick(If anyone has footage of that i can pinpoint that exact moment where it occured). I took a month off of footbag, while continuing to strengthen core, and now I'm pain free, and playing everyday. The point is to do some core stregthening work. I recommend not doing situps, as they bend the back, which is probably not very good when it hurts. Holding pushups or holding table(supported on elbows and forearm), as well as slow twist from pushup position extending one arm in to the air and holding. Also laying on your back and lifting legs off the floor and holding. Don't do any motions that cause the pain. Rest and Ice, but it is always good to do light excersize to strengthen the muscles. Never completley stop doing anything physical.

A lot of lower back pain is caused by an imbalance in muscularity on either one side or the other of the body. Google Core Training and you can learn how to improve your abdominals, spinals erectus, and obliques to make this pain all but go away.
