Had a nice little solo session outside in the shade. Still lost breath quickly though, so I drilled mostly and worked some new concepts.

Did:

Dimwalk > Ripwalk > Sidewalk bsos
Parkwalk > Sidewalk > Ripwalk bsos
Toe Ducking Clipper > Ducking Pdx Mirage > rpt
Spinning Ducking Clipper bsos
DLO > Toe Drifter > rpt
Spinning Clipper > Drifter > rpt
Magellan > PLO repeat
Toe Whirl > Pdx Illusion > rpt
Ducking Clipper > Whirl > rpt
All kinds of Dexless 4 move drills
hit Vortex. That was really nice.

15 Guiltless... blah.
But I'm very happy with the day all in all. Now time to work.

Hey Josh! I am home in 8 days, so within two weeks it would be great if I could get myself to a FAT shred session.

I am really looking forward to seeing your new Guiltless moves, the last videos I saw of you were from so long ago!

One move that I really find makes the sidewalk and ripwalk combinations [which sound like you have down] look cooler is stepping ss legover -> parkwalk or dimwalk.

I am excited to play with you!

I agree, Jay! I hit Schmoe > Dimwalk > rpt for you today!
By the way. The same way you talking about Tom Mosher got you all excited and ready to play, reading about how much you're working just to have a good first session with your new canadian playing partners got me all hyped too. I've been really practicing and can't wait to shred with you. I can already tell we'll inspire one another.
Where in the city do you live, is it more Toronto or Mississauga? Just so I know how close to you all our areas are.

Anyway. On a non-person-specific note.

I've sessioned with Alex a couple times in the last few days at the North York Civic Centre. It's been rad. This increased shred regimen has really been doing wonders for my game. Some highlights over the last two sessions:

30 Guiltless (New Record) - Probably less than half BOPs.
Toe Drifter > Whirl > DLO > rpt - next is inserting a Spinning Clipper between the Drifter and Whirl.
Whirl > Ripwalk > rpt
Inspinning Clipper

Also, I had never kept track of my Shuffle Record, and now I guess I do, with 11. All Pixie and Stepping, though. I really REALLY need to work flip Fairy. Flip Atomic isn't bad, but it isn't reliable, and it needs to be. On the other hand, I'm super happy with flip Pixie and Stepping, so maybe I should just stop bitching and practise more. That's the key.

Yes, I'm finally ready to call myself a lower-level Guiltess player rather than a Super Tiltless player. The last bunch of sessions I've only tilted in runs dedicated to Tiltless. Otherwise, Guilt = End Run. I'm tired of not being able to obtain half of my Tiltless record (69) in Guiltless mode.

I like how I can be happy with my progress while at the same time being incredibly motivated to keep moving and work on concepts that I feel should be better. Can't wait to play again soon!

You're sooooo good!
I can't wait for you and Jay to jam -- make him go super guiltless. Well, I watched some of his videos on Google video and he seems to be, like, at your level, but his runs are shorter 'cause he doesn't bail to 2s? Maybe not an accurate representation, but I thought of you when watching his game.

Erik, it means a lot to have you write in here. Thanks, man, you inspire me a lot both in style (I use you for a model when I practice dexless) and in approach to the game. I'm not as modest as you; I hope some day I can be.

I'll work on Jay for you too as much as I can. If he lives anywhere close to me I think we'll be good friends.

(feels special)

As for the comparison between Josh(you) and myself (I), I think Josh(you) is the better player. Just looking at the second Montreal Jam video, his(your) runs are twice as long as mine, and it looks as if you don't sweat like a beast.

I sorta skipped tiltless, and I very rarely bail to toe moves, I just do a hand catch because it didn't allow me to hit another harder move; when caught, I do the move I just did and the one I wanted to do and go on.

The excitement is overwhelming, and now knowing that Erik Chan is looking forward to this it is even worse.

As for where I live, it is a small village beside "georgetown" called "limehouse". It is about 30-45 minutes away from Toronto, so I wont be there THAT often.

I'll race you to schmoe -> fairy pickup -> dimwalk *rpt, since you said you need to work on your fairy and I just learned it a week ago.

(I'll stop cluttering your blog until we actually meet... :) Oh, I got stepping clipper to blurry whirl bs today, and paradox whirl -> blurry whirl bs, so I should fulfill your challenge!)

Just wanted to mention that we've hit pixie paradon for the first time on the same day. Funny! ( i read it in the fat blog)

Highlights from me on Monday, playing with Sam:

3-4 contacts of Rubberman bs feel good. Rubberman should come soon.
Blender bsos
Dyno bsos
Osis > Torque > Stepping something bsos
Fairybeater bsos
Toe Drifter > Spinning Clipper > Whirl > DLO bs - next is b2b and then I can add another trick into the drill. I'll probably put a couple shuffle in there as the next additions.
DSO and DATW out (different sides) mid run.

Realisation:

I kinda like my Climas, but they are very unforgiving when it comes to landing stuff. I find if your form isn't close to perfect, the bag will roll or you will drop. HOWEVER! I kinda like that about these new shoes of mine. Here's how it is: Climas make me A LOT better when I'm not wearing them. If I warm up and shred a bit in my Climas, my string length and trick repertoire increases massively when I switch to Lavers.
So it's been good for becoming more precise. Climas are like a training shoe which I would never (until I adjust better) wear in competition, but playing with them for practice helps a lot.

yeah, Erik, once my Lavers die (although I've had them about 1.75 years and they are still strong) I'll be playing in the Climas exclusively.

Oh, and I forgot about a new 5 the other day.

Ducking Dyno.

Hey Josh,

Make sure you do the toe mesh mod on your climas. Remove the top layer of the mesh and they will be way feelier and grippier.

I find that I am for sure my most confident on catches in my climas.

Keep shredding!

Lets shred when I get back from world's.

Thanks Tom!

I've already taken the mesh off the toe; it was one of the mods I was sure to make, and I 100% agree with you about the surface feeling sick. But I still don't have the same confidence I do in other shoes. That said, I believe I will get better by continuing to push myself in these shoes. Like I said, they improve my precision.

I'll get some pictures up soon, I am really proud of my mods!

Modding thoughts / slight bragging tone, caveat lector (<-- I actually made sure in my Latin book that this was right).

I'll always been a fan or clean, sleek mods. So I take great pride in being SUPER delicate and caring whenever I dig a blade into my footbag shoes (in the literal sense). I didn't even nick the good mesh on my laver, and only one or two of the mesh threads in the Climas suffered... all in all very nice. Anyway I just have to find my camera.

Played for a few hours today with Mike and Camille.

Mostly played in Climas, which are becoming more and more natural. Switched to Lavers for the last bit. I like having a choice between shoes.

The three of us worked on some circle shred, like shred where every run involves each person. We worked stuff like Infinity > person on your right's Clipper > rpt and free-for-all Clippers. It was fun.
We talked about how World's used to be divided between Singles and Team rather than strictly Doubles. Mike brought up a good point: if you want to enter a routine with 3 or 5 or 100 people, why shouldn't it be allowed?

Anyway I played ok, lots of 15+ Guiltless runs.

The only highlight I'm really stoked about was hitting a drill I've been building one move at a time.

Toe Drifter > Spinning Clip > Whirl > DLO > rpt

I might now throw a Magellan on the front to shuffle it up a bit... heheh.

Anyway, good playing with you guys. Can't wait for our outdoor shred excursion, whatever it ends up being.

Thanks, Erik. It does.

Mike and I were talking about some of the new footbag theory that came out of world's this year, and it's already helping me out immensely. In particular we discussed repeating ss Muted Clippers. I figured this would help Swirls etc. So super thanks to Mike (as always) cause this is what happened for me today while solo sessioning:

Clipper > Muted Flapper > Muted Clipper bs

All 4 Symple Swirls and Symple Reverse Swirls!
5 or 6 of the above I'd never hit before... and the others were fluke. BUT! Both the far Symple Rev Swirls I hit the very first time EVER trying them. I was a little stoked about that.

Even my normal muted Swirls are 100% more consistent after today... It's like I've just filled a huge hole in my game and it feels great!

Just some stuff I haven't gotten around to posting otherwise:

Butterfly Rev Swirl
Rev Swirling Pickup

Clipper Drill 1 to 10 and back again (200 Clippers dropless)

So I'm really getting into Rev Swirl stuff. I like it so much better than normal Swirls. Is it Byrin that does a lot of that??

Heck yes, it's Byrin. Too bad you aren't coming to Hackrifice. Sniff sniff.
Props on those moves though.
Rev swirling pickup = "Revup".
Do you do twirls, Josh? Twirls are soooo cool, and I always forget to do them.
I just had a warmup session and I was totally going to try the 1-10 and back down clipper drill. I didn't even make it to 10 :p

Can't wait to play with you again!
Are you playing guiltless yet?
I challenge you to reverse riptide both sides!! (Stepping far butterfly reverse swirl)

Thanks so much for the post and challenge, Erik.

Yeah, looks like no Hackrifice, but I really do want to shred with you again ASAP, and meet Andrew too. You visiting down this way soon?

And lol, you know I've only ever hit a Twirl a couple times one side. I'm adding that (and eventually bsos) to the challenge.

So THAT's a Revup. Nice. I've footed Ripstein a few times now too. Swirls rock so much. I'm pretty sure I could set a Swirl before too long.

As for playing totally Guiltless, although I haven't made as much progress as I'd like, what is there is encouraging. My Chan-inspired Dexless can make it up to above 10 fairly often, and with Bops and Shuffle and downtime Genuine stuff, I feel like an average of 20 or so can be achieved before long. It's just so hard not to use Clippers, heheh.
