Cross Training

Post by Dat »

I was curious to see what other people do for cross training. I'm starting to realize how much cross training helps for the mental aspect of sports too, as well as strengthening your body. What other sports/activities do you guys do to make yourself a more well-rounded athlete?

I do rock climbing, juggling, slackline, and sometimes hockey. I just started swimming, and I'm really getting a kick out of it. I think it'll really help my left leg to recover.

When it's warm enough, I try to jog about 3 miles 3 days a week mainly to drop some extra weight and improve stamina. If I'm not running then I'm on my mountain bike. Its less formal than when I jog, I don't ride a specific distance. I just try to maintain a brisk pace for however long I'm riding.

In the winter I get fat

I swim like a madman... Nothing like getting to the creek at 9 o'clock in the morning and leaving at 8 in the evening :D.

I run 2-3 miles a day...5 days a week and lift weights. And I also get out on the mountain bike as often as I can. I guess basketball, softball, and soccer give me a little bit of a work out too.

I bike to and from school everyday, even though the bus would get me there about 15 minutes faster. It's up-hill in the morning too. It's perfect, cuz I get good excersize on the way there, and then when I'm all tierd and excited to get home at the end of the day it's a breeze. I beat my bus home by over half an hour!

I also used to do Kung Fu. That was interesting and kinda fun, but I don't think it helped my game that much.

Outside of that, I used to go to physio every week and that helped my knee pain and my sprained ankle.

I used to lift weights too. But two years of working out every god-damn day after school, chugging back the protien shakes and living a life-style based on beefing up... and no gain.... :( It's quite discouraging, so I don't do that very much anymore.

So... basically my cross-training consists of only cycling these days. I shred more now though, so it's prolly better for my game anyway.

I run and juggle a lot, although I'm not sure how much it affects my footbag game.

I also do a bit of cycling, pick up soccer, and pick up basketball.

I've been playing crazy amounts of ultimate frizbee so far this summer. Like, five times a week for a couple of hours each. Grass is so much more forgiving on my poor knees.

Look out footbag, I'm shaping up, then I'm coming for you. We've got unfinished business.

I've been doing some pretty serious cycling lately. I have been doing about 100 miles per week, with the average ride being around 20 - 30 miles. The only problem is that i don't have enough energy to play footbag after a long hard ride today :(

I just ran on my family's eliptical for the first time. I think I'm going to do that with footbag every other day from now on.
