Evolution
I was just reading on some other forums (the Pure Pwnage ones to be precise) about some guys who have encountered others who don't believe in evolution.
Is there anyone here who rejects the idea of evolution?

Probably more people than you think!
Latest survey shows that more than near half of america (48%) REJECTS evolution. You heard it right.

My fiance and her, uhhh, whole family reject evolution. Doesn't bother me because I just know they're delusional and/or haven't done nearly enough research. In fact, my fiance's dad is one of those early-earth creationist dumbasses. Luckily my girl isn't, but shes still torn between reality and what her dad thinks.

I totally believe in evolution. It's one of the few things that I'm 100% sure about. I love getting into heated arguments with massively overly-churchy people about it. They get so pissed when they know that they can't prove me wrong.
Kinda' reminds me of churchy people who say that dinosaurs never existed.......
As the universe is curved, there cannot be a straight answer...

I was ten years old when a relative of mine was blindly converted to Christianity in high school; thank you youth group. Since she believed in Adam and Eve and not evolution, I asked her to explain dinosaur fossils. She was only 15 so I can understand her silly response which was that "God made the world old," meaning that it (God) made the world with dinosaur fossils already in it. I've heard that from a few other people (over the course of my life, it's not like they're running around all over the place) that God made dinosaur fossils to intrigue us and make us think, not that they were actually alive at any point. Oh that God, tricking us at any chance it gets.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard a reasonable (believable in any way) explanation of dinosaur fossils from a person who does not believe in evolution.

Most just say that the fossils arn't as old as they appear. They say carbon-dating is flawed or some shit.
I think I found the ultimate rebuttal against a young-earth, though I have yet to test it. Craters! Look at the HUGE crater in middle america. If the earth was only 6000 years old, don't you think the bible would have at least mentioned a large blast and dust in the air? Durrr.

I see and hear a surprising number of creationists argue against evolution with the phrase, "once I see a monkey turn into a human I'll believe it!!!"
To me that is about as ignorant as you can get.
There's a kid I know in all honors classes, and he's really interested in biology, and he won't accept evolution because then he feels like he couldn't believe in god.
I think he's crazy.

“Imagine that an asteroid lands on Earth and brings
with it an exotic bacteria that kills all organic matter on
Earth and then dissolves without a trace. A million years
later, intelligent aliens discover Earth and study our bones
and our possessions, trying to piece together our history.
They might notice that all of our cookware—the pots and
pans and plates and bowls—all seemed to be related somehow.
And the older ones were quite different from the
newer ones. The earliest among them were crude bowls, all
somewhat similar, generally made of clay or stone. Over
time, the bowls evolved into plates and coffee cups and
stainless-steel frying pans.
“The aliens would create compelling charts showing
how the dishes evolved. The teacup family would look like
its own species, related closely to the beer mug and the
water glass. An observer who looked at the charts would
clearly see a pattern that could not be coincidence. The
cause of this dishware evolution would be debated, just as
we debate the underlying cause of human evolution, but the
observed fact of dishware evolution would not be challenged
by the alien scientists. The facts would be clear.
Some scientists would be bothered by the lack of intermediate
dishware species—say, a frying pan with a beer mug
handle—but they would assume it to exist somewhere
undiscovered.â€

Yeah, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
Well, OK, I've heard a lot of dumb things. I'll tentatively put it in my top ten.
If these aliens are scientifically advanced enough to travel across space to come to earth, they are going to be scientifically advanced enough to know the difference between compositions of elements that could never have been alive, and compositions of elements that could have been alive.
Oh my god. It's like a weak analogy wrapped in a straw man wrapped in general ignorance.
If only the people who come up with these highly misleading arguments could put their brains towards something that would assist human progress rather than regression to superstition... and there's so much money invested into coming up with new, slick anti-enlightenment arguments and rhetoric... its pretty damned depressing.
BTW, you can't exclusively blame the south for this. I've met a lot of people in the Midwest who don't "believe" in evolution - not that "belief" is really the appropriate word. I'd bet if anything the divide is between those with a college education and those without.

It's probably like a 80/20 split:
80% Evolutionary process
20% Higher power
The higher power could be a God, or aliens who are conducting a long term genetic experiment, at the conclusion of which, all humans will become food.

I am dead certain that there was an evolution from bakteria to human beings. There are so many fossils etc. that explain to us the earth's history; I wonder how anyone can just ignore them and believe in something else that has no prove whatsoever.
But I think it is easier to tell yourself that you are right and the others are wrong than admitting the fact that there has been an evolution, which is actually much more probable than a god who just clicked his fingers and produced the earth.
I used to discuss with creationists and other people who believe that the bible is absolutely true (and other rubbish) but after some time I gave it up as a bad try. Once I had someone cornered with my arguments they just said: "Well that's god's doing and we don't understand that. Basta"
It's childish and stupid to use such an excuse but after you hear this argument, the discussion has just rebooted and you can start all over again. I tried it a couple of times but I got bored.
Narrow-minded those guys (girls).
By the way I think also we could evolve further but the problem with evolution is that it only happens if it is necessary (to get used to a new climate or whatever).
