White Stripes playing in Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada!

Post by Eskimo Joe »

I bought two tickets ($45 Cdn each) and can't wait to go. This is like the first real band to play here! I think this will kick some ass. But get this, b/c there are never any attractions such as this one, the City decided that this concert will not be licenced to sell alcohol! So the kiddies can go. Stupid.

When I was under age, I was SOL, so why not here? Oh well, I will get sauced up before I go.

The band is also playing in Burnaby, BC, Whitehorse, YU and Yellowknife, NT.

This band kicks ass for wanting to tour the entire country of Canada.
Our population here is only about 6500, so they knew that comming here was not to make big $$ but to spread their fan base.

That's really cool. I bet the show will rock, especially Meg's drum solo.

Maybe you could smuggle a flask in?

HAHA! I never thought about a flask b/c I have never had one. But my friend does..... Great idea. I am going to try it out. But I will still get a little tipsy before I get there, just in case.

The tickets were so much cheaper than I expected. 45 cdn each! When I went to the RHCP concert in Montreal last Sept. it was 210 US each! But I was 10 rows back centre stage.

Yeah. I'll second the appreciation for an act doing a proper 'Canadian Tour'. I dunno if I'll go, but they're playing St. John's as well. Every province and territory. Good on 'em.

The concert fuckin Rocked! They sound just as good live as they do on records! There was only about 500-800 people there and everyone was pretty close. Fucking awesome band.

Jack was saying that Meg and him met with some Inuit elders earlier in the day and ate some raw caribou and said it was yummy.

The crowd wasn't really jumping around and singing along! I think it is b/c many of them have probably never been to a concert. At one point Jack was askingpeople how they are doing and said that he could ask everyone 1 by 1. He also said that he and Meg should stay here for a week and meet everyone in town.

Jolly good show.

Hey man, my roommate knows someone that went to this show. His name is Lee Burton. By any chance do you know him, or his little bro Travis Burton?
Lee was the white kid with a full-on bushman beard by the age of 12!! :P

andrew, sounds like a sick show. that's cool that a big band like that did a tour of less-likely spots in canada. glad you had a good time, glad some people went.

The show was awesome. But they didn't play little room. I do know Lee Burton we used to go High School together, he was a grade older than I and in my sisters class. That is pretty messed up that you know him.

LOL!!

I will get a few pics from my sister, who had the camera and post them here.

Peace out Modified!

I can't even believe you know my roommate man. We're gonna build a guitar and dedicate it to Iqaluit, H.A.T. Guitars. (Hardly A Town)

Yeah that is pretty crazy!

I knew Lee growing up and thought he was a really nice guy. Ask him if he still remembers Andrew Dunford and that I say hello. We weren't like friends or anything, but I knew him and he knew me and we were nice.

About the guitar, I think you will now have to call it H.A.C. because we are officially a City now due to the money being spent here on an annual basis. We started as a Hamlet, then became a Municipality and now we are a City! All 6500 residents are Big City Dwellers in the Arctic.

You should try and get up here for a shred session one day! I will organize the Nunavut Footbag Championships and invite people from all over the world. Maybe we could get Vasek, Jorden and all those in-human superstars to come up. Problem is that it is about 1200-1800 return to or from Ottawa. You could all crash with me or I could see if I could set up a dorm with the college.

HA! Dreams. But it would be awesome and the backround scenery would be amazing. We still have ice in the harbour.

Later!
