I read this at another site and thought it would be interesting for others to read.

Let's say I break into your house

A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials
in ages!!! It explains things better than all
the baloney you hear on TV.

Her point:

Recently large demonstrations have taken place
across the country protesting the fact that Congress
is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.

Certain people are angry that
the US might protect its own
borders, might make it harder
to sneak into this country and,
once here, to stay indefinitely.
Let me see if I correctly understand
the thinking behind these protests.
Let's say I break into your house.
Let's say that when you discover
me in your house, you insist that I leave.
But I say, 'I've made all
the beds and washed the
dishes and did the laundry
and swept the floors. I've
done all the things you don't
like to do. I'm hard-working
and honest
(except for when I broke into your house).

According to the protesters:
You are Required to let me stay in your house
You are Required to add me to your family's insurance plan
You are Required to Educate my kids
You are Required to Provide other benefits to me & to my family
(my husband will do all of your yard work because
he is also hard-working and honest, except for that
breaking in part).

If you try to call the police or force me out,
I will call my friends who will picket your
house carrying signs that proclaim my
RIGHT to be there.

It's only fair, after all, because you have
a nicer house than I do, and I'm just
trying to better myself. I'm a hard-working
and honest, person, except for well,
you know, I did break into your house
And what a deal it is for me!!!

I live in your house, contributing only a
fraction of the cost of my keep, and
there is nothing you can do about it
without being accused of cold,

uncaring, selfish, prejudiced, and
bigoted behavior.

Oh yeah, I DEMAND that you learn
MY LANGUAGE!!! so you can
communicate with me.

Look, the analogy is just off. That is something someone dumb enough to write to the Editorial's would write, and what other people on the internet would in turn post t/here.

Look, I'm against "illegal" immigration in the same way I'm against breaking into someones house. But if you need to make the change bad enough for economic reasons, I understand why you couldn't just wait in the 10 year lines to get into the great white North. In the same way, I understand why people break into houses if their economic situation is dire enough. I don't support it, and it's wrong, but it makes sense and you would too if you were put in a situation where you had to. Sure anyone can find a job in the States if they apply themselves, and welfare is ridiculous right now; I know that, but Mexico is a different place where people have to make a change for themselves. Just be glad more of them want to do work up here and get paid shitty wages for it, and instead aren't staying in Mexico working the drug trade there.

In the end, the US should do whatever is best for itself. The security threat AKA amazingly easy access into the most hated nation in the world, for terrorists or whomever else has beef with us (Like Jeremy), is definitely an argument to make regarding closing the border or tightening it or whatever the slang word on 247 news is these days. But the whole "breaking into my house" thing doesn't work because the US is nobody's house it's a county and the rules are different and shit. We don't (Necesarily) have to be voting for people who are pro-illegalimmigration, but a lot of America likes immgration (Illegal or not) because most of the country still believes in the "immigrant nation", because that is what we are.

I could spend more time I want on this and go through line by line and break shit down, but I just off work and my toe is broken to the right and I need a shower n shit.

This is what we do in America.

Make terrible analogies, over-simplifications, over-generalizations and catchy sayings to rile up the stupid and uninformed (please don't take that personally Jon, I'm not including you in that group) to get on board with supporting some other agenda.

Not to go off topic but that whole "To secure peace is to prepare for war" bullshit. Simple sentence that even people with a 55 IQ can repeat as a mantra. Keep the masses stupid by spending less and less on public education and keep pumping out the crackhead logic for everyone to keep repeating and it's 1984.

I don't usually get involved in the discussion forum but this just popped out as an ignorant argument and I had to jump in and refute it (along with everyone else it seems).

I've read an analogy kind of like that before.

The one i heard, asks if you leave your front door unlocked every night, and then what do you do if someone comes in and eats all the food in your refrigerator, and empties your medicine cabinet.

lol... someone coming into my house is A LOT different than someone coming in my country. i agreed with some of the analagies... but i feel a lot of it was carried away and just dramatized to sound clever and liberal.

I kinda agree with that analogy. A lot of it's true...

I mean, just because they're doing a lot of the work that we don't like to do, doesn't mean that makes up for the loss we experience by the drop of taxes by 3.33%... I mean, they can just come in the legal way, and take those same lame ass jobs, but now they'll just pay into taxes, and we really won't have a problem anymore, now will we?
