I can totally appreciate a good bag now! I JUST finished my first 32 and it is baaaad. Wow is it bad. Haha
Well, I think it is stitched well enough for a first bag, but here are mistakes that I made:
-didn't properly burn the last knot, and it shows on the outside
-kinda ugly, and noticeably not a sphere
The BIGGEST problem I'm discovering, after the fact, is that not only is my filler way too light (seed bead and a bit of copper-coated beads (or something), but that it is perhaps way too small (or my bleed holes aren't tight enough (

Instead of burning the last knot, make an actual knot, and then you'll have the two really long pieces of thread sticking out, kind of like the first part of doing your shoelaces.Erik Chan wrote: -didn't properly burn the last knot, and it shows on the outside

Burn one of those really long pieces (but make sure it doesn't stick to the bag) and then thread your needle with the other really long piece. Make a knot at the needle with that piece of thread, and then push the needle through the bleed hole that the knot is at, and then out another bleed hole. Pull tight until the knot disappears, and then cut the thread and push the thread inside through that bleed hole.
I'm sorry if that doesn't make sense, but it's the best way to explain it.
And on the second one, I used to have that problem too. Are you starting your stitching on the hexagon side? If you do that, it should close up your bleed holes a bit better. Also make sure that your stitching is tight and you don't have loose knots or anything.
First bags always suck though, you'll get the hang of it.

I couldn't find steel shot. Good thing I guess, though? It sounds like in some thread steel shot is sucky and that tungsten is better... so I will mayhaps try to find that instead... I think I will ask Tom or Peng, since they are Canadian too, and probably know, since they're awesome.
I had a mini session since I haven't played for a week and I have been dying to. My knees are messed up. That swirl session sucked... My back is a little sore too.

Yeah, I dunno... nothing really. I did lots of gyro DLOs... they're easy, and that's cool. It was fun to just play and do dumb stuff and not worry about anything... although I stopped because I couldn't really think of anything to do that didn't hurt
It sucks so much to not be able to push myself and actually get better... If I wasn't injured I would be playing so hard and I would be AWESOME by now. Blech. Umm. Yeah, I think relearning flip pixie didn't help my flip knee either... Like, it made it worse I don't know what I'm going to be able to do tomorrow. At least my shins are okay at the moment.
Well, I'm going to go shower and then start a new bag. I think I want to watch 28 Days Later. Maybe I will call to see if it's in, 'cause every time I go to rent it, it's out. Hey a weekend! I am also going to read-up on Canadian customs and import taxes and figure out if I will be charged for ordering my camcorder... if not I will order it in the next moment (oh yeah!). Umm, and what else... Oh yeah, I'm going to draw a lot this weekend, I hope -- awesome. I had a neato series of sketches from a couple days ago at work that I like. I had a mini PM conversation with Mike Faille today and that was fun; I miss Mike

I had quite a good shred today. I played for just about 4 hours on the nose, with no to little pain in my knees and shins (awesome!) My bad hip was quite tender though, especially after a couple of ducking pdx DLO attempts.
Here are a bunch of highlights:

Gee, it sure seemed at the time like I hit way more cool stuff. Maybe I just forget. There was a cool moment, too, where Manna asked, "What's paradox torque?" and I was already in the middle of a run, and so I hit it, and Andrew was, like, "That." And then I ended the run with the other side (I'm REALLY bad at torques..) Oh, I hit a blurry torque today, but it was pretty pulled.
Well, yeah, that was really fun. I've been having really bad back pain lately (I've had it for quite some years, but it just flared up recently, and it was around the time Dave was posting about his problems. I am pretty sure mine is just muscular though, so I picked up some robaxecet. I'm hoping to take another in 40 minutes... Umm, yeah. 28 Days Later was AWESOME. Umm, a pretty cool highlight from today was talking with Andrew on the car ride home for, like, 30 minutes or so with no awkward silences! That was quite neat. I am the king of awkward silences. Words just kept coming out, and it was quite comfortable, and that made me really happy.
K, I'm gonna go eat some stuffed turkey, maybe watch Narnia again ('cause I've been listening to the entire series on audio while stitching, and also 'cause the girl in 28 Days Later reminds me a LOT of Susan from LWW), and stitch...and I gotta draw. Stuff is good. I'm happy right now. OH! I'm going to go order my camcorder now too!!!!!! The Canon GL2 (the one I posted pictures of most recently!!! (ie: COOL))

That was neat, and I busted kind of big. I'm pretty scared of public places (like, #1 fear?), so that was kinda cool.

I grew up on Narnia, so I am excited!! A kind of neat thing is that every couple books has new kids, so they won't have the same problem as in Harry Potter, where the kids age and you gotta make the movies fast-fast. They're even in pre-production of The Voyage of the Dawn TREADER (fans of my video may actually finally get the play on words there... Tom Mosher told me that he finally got it after the first new Narnia movie came out. Oh, and other couple of neat things about the audio series I'm listening to is that it is narrated by C.S. Lewis' stepson, and that it is done by the same people that did the audio dramas that I grew up listening to my entire life -- great voice acting and effects and stuff, and actually the voices are quite similar to the old BBC made-for-TV movies that came out in the mid-late 80s that I also grew up on, which is great.
PS: Susan is sooooooooo pretty. When I first saw it in theatres, with Marita, I think I must have nudged her and expressed that at least 5 different times! Swoon.

My second bag I like it a whole bunch -- it's so pretty. It kinda looks nice and round too. Criticism would be so cool -- like bad stuff (but also good stuff..). If one can tell from a photo? Oh yeah, umm, it's like INCREDIBLY teeny... I just made some new templates to try out on a third bag...

I think if I ever sell bags I want to personalize them somehow by, like, hitting a cool trick or combo. I made a Hackrifice DVD a handful of years ago and sent it to some people and I customized it for each person by hiding his or her name on the main menu... I thought that was really neat, although I doubt anyone noticed.

I just finished bag #003, here at work, a bit ago. It had a strange feel to it, and it bled just as much as bag #001. Bleh. I tried to rough it up to see how it would fair, and I popped a stitch Sucky. It is sitting here at my desk and staring up at me with this huge gap. It's soooo nice looking too. It's "The Claw" pattern that I stole from my Hibbs bag, and it is green and cream. It looks really cute beside #002 too.
Speaking of which, #002 is NIIIIICE. If it was bigger and had a heavier fill it would be sooo rad! It's so soft, doesn't leak at all, looks pretty, and I kinda didn't fill it too much, so it's not all uber-round like #001. #003 turned out as big as my PegLeg, and maybe a BIT bigger after a bit of break-in. I think I will up the size just a TOUCH for #004, and stay with that for a while. I would start #004 right now, still at work, but I only brought my stuff to finish #003.
Umm, yeah. I guess I will try some tricks for sealing the bleed holes better for #004 too. I think I will try to put an extra stitch into each of those sides? I'm not sure. Someone gave a tip on that, and maybe it is the same thing? I will read later, when I am ready, or maybe just end up trying out some of my own experiments. Geez, this is fun. SO FUN!

nice bags! glad to see someone take up stitching.
i have a tip for hiding the blind stitch....
when you are finished with the stitch, do a double overhand knot (tie both strings together, in one loop knot), and leave an inch or so of each string.
take those straggelers, and thread them both on the needle. take the needle, and stick it backwards thru the last opening, and push it thru, pullin teh strings with it.
that should do it, but if it dont, ill show you at worlds.
and bleedhole widths dont matter much. i use enormus bleedholes, and the drop a bead prbbly 1ce a day. so just over fill it, and make the hex side alittle longer, and stitch the same. should do it.
and keep stitching!

So yeah, bag #004 came out like a big version of #003 -- oh yeah I still haven't posted that one yet. It is SUPER poofy. This is because I kept worrying about the template dimentions and didn't consider anything else. I used the exact same amount of gather on every single bag so far!! I kicked myself for not considering that last night after finished #004. So I'm on #005 at work now, and I've only done one flower, but I homemade my own gather tool that I can customize fairly easily and VERY accurately... so if this one is bollocks then I can work off of a comparison between it and #004. I'm praying it turns out like a big version of #002 -- that's still my only good bag so far. If my gather is a good amount, should that prevent bleeding more than a poofy bag? I need to figure this out because my poofy bags bleed like crazy.
Yeah, so I think I may have popularized the term "hacky". I started saying it after watching Eli's Regulator special video a ton when he released it. I've been saying it for a few months now, and suddenly I feel that lots of people are too. I first noticed this at ShrEdmonton when I used it and Kyle Hewitt immediately used it right after me, when it seemed like he never would have before he heard me... I like to call it silly things. On Facebook, everyone that I know through footbag, where you write how you know the person I wrote something different for every single person

BRAINSTORM!
I just figured out two things that I've been doing wrong, and which has been causing excessive bleeding!! I've been stitching wAAAYYY too close to the edge of the panel giving the short edges of the hexes just the TEENIEST space to hold in the filler... no worky. So halfway through #005 I've started stitching deeper and I feel so brilliant!! It's kinda neat too, because I just showed my mom (who works in the same office as me...actually kind of as my secretary...muah ha ha...) and she said that it looks like the most evenly-stitched of my bags so far! COOL! Even though half of it is stitched differently than the other half. Well it is only half done now, so I am going to go try to finish it before tonight's session... although I still don't have proper filler I guess since it is half badly stitched I will just fill it with seed bead anyway, and hopefully I will have steel by the time I finish #006. Oh yeah, and the other thing is what I think Tom and Nate pointed out, that I shouldn't stitch just one point at the corner, but two a bit off on either side. I will start that on my next bag too. I enjoy feeling great about myself learning these things myself, but I am also very VERY grateful to everyone who has helped me out. Haha. Particularly Andrew (Eskimo Joe), Waylon, Peng, Matthew Cross, Tom... and gee, I feel bad because I think I am missing one or two vital people. Anyway, thanks guys!

So yeah, bag #004 came out like a big version of #003 -- oh yeah I still haven't posted that one yet. It is SUPER poofy. This is because I kept worrying about the template dimentions and didn't consider anything else. I used the exact same amount of gather on every single bag so far!! I kicked myself for not considering that last night after finished #004. So I'm on #005 at work now, and I've only done one flower, but I homemade my own gather tool that I can customize fairly easily and VERY accurately... so if this one is bollocks then I can work off of a comparison between it and #004. I'm praying it turns out like a big version of #002 -- that's still my only good bag so far. If my gather is a good amount, should that prevent bleeding more than a poofy bag? I need to figure this out because my poofy bags bleed like crazy.
Yeah, so I think I may have popularized the term "hacky". I started saying it after watching Eli's Regulator special video a ton when he released it. I've been saying it for a few months now, and suddenly I feel that lots of people are too. I first noticed this at ShrEdmonton when I used it and Kyle Hewitt immediately used it right after me, when it seemed like he never would have before he heard me... I like to call it silly things. On Facebook, everyone that I know through footbag, where you write how you know the person I wrote something different for every single person

I just figured out two things that I've been doing wrong, and which has been causing excessive bleeding!! I've been stitching wAAAYYY too close to the edge of the panel giving the short edges of the hexes just the TEENIEST space to hold in the filler... no worky. So halfway through #005 I've started stitching deeper and I feel so brilliant!! It's kinda neat too, because I just showed my mom (who works in the same office as me...actually kind of as my secretary...muah ha ha...) and she said that it looks like the most evenly-stitched of my bags so far! COOL! Even though half of it is stitched differently than the other half. Well it is only half done now, so I am going to go try to finish it before tonight's session... although I still don't have proper filler
I guess since it is half badly stitched I will just fill it with seed bead anyway, and hopefully I will have steel by the time I finish #006. Oh yeah, and the other thing is what I think Tom and Nate pointed out, that I shouldn't stitch just one point at the corner, but two a bit off on either side. I will start that on my next bag too. I enjoy feeling great about myself learning these things myself, but I am also very VERY grateful to everyone who has helped me out. Haha. Particularly Andrew (Eskimo Joe), Waylon, Peng, Matthew Cross, Tom... and gee, I feel bad because I think I am missing one or two vital people. Anyway, thanks guys!

I'm not feeling as confident about the bleed hole fix I thought I'd come upon... I don't know if stitching "deeper" will fix my bleeding issue... This bag looks really... well, Manna said, "You can see through it.." It's still not done, but the bleed holes aren't really...tight. It looks yummy though. Oh...My Clavens started dying today That's only a couple sessions worth longer than my Peng I think it was losing filler today from some fresh holes. Wah.

I didn't drop many spinning rev whirls today (like maybe 90% success rate) -- they were one fire Not much pain either. Knees a bit raw, but not much more than they were to begin with. Back is tight, but not too painful. Shins are good.
Wait, there was also a highlight that I got really excited about, but I can't remember what...
EDIT: Bag #005 turned out quite nice -- it is the first playable bag I have made. It is about the size of a Juice bag, so it is quite large, but I am going to go down a template for my next bag again. The gather was pretty minimal, and I think that gave it its playability. The bleed holes turned out as good as #002, I think, and it looked good like #002, as well, except for my last panel that I gathered way too much for some reason. Well, actually, it still leaked far too much too... like, yeah. I gotta fix that somehow That's what frustrates me the most.

Whoa nice bags! After you work out the details and get the steel shot I'll have to get myself a muffin man bag! I've always wanted to stitch, but I tried an 8 panel bag a long time ago with a tshirt and it took so long for me to stitch and it turned out horribly.
The stepping rev whirl>blurry rev whirl[repeat]>more great stuff run is nuts! Thats a pretty intense combo, I wish I could step out of rev whirls like that! You don't really see a lot of people with solid rev whirls in their game. Props Erik!

I will credit the comment about "fast learner" to the awesome people who have helped me out and told me exactly what to do without whom, I would be completely lost and have no idea what I'm doing (moreso than I feel I am now...)
Anyway, I'm only really posting again because I remember that I also hit:

It was kinda surreal, wasn't sure if I'd actually hit it, and then it just came up and landed right in my hand without me even seeing. I guess it shouldn't be that hard, now that my stepping ducking is pretty okay, but... it's pretty landmark for me.
