trick F ups
trick F ups
I don't think I saw a topic for good stories about messing up tricks, so here's one. I'm still a novice, and a while ago I was trying to do a whirl, not even a symp whirl, but I didn't get my clipper foot out of the way in time and kicked my own feet out from under me. I think that was the first time in my life that I fell and literally landed on my face; I couldn't even get my arms out in time to catch myself, they just crumpled underneath me. and of course, my sister looked over just in time to see me hit the floor, she laughed pretty hard. I laughed too...about 5 minutes later when I finally got up haha.

The first time I ever did a duck, I had just worked out my back and I pulled a muscle.

There would be lots of things to tell but the best one is probably this story:
One time at band camp...no just kidding
I tried to do a Spinning Clipper once and although I hadn't quite understood the trick I just wanted to hit it. So I set the bag and started to do the spinning but when I had about two thirds of the spinning, I tripped and fell. But luckily enough I converted the fall into some kind of dive roll out of reflex
It was a laugh for the others and for me aswell after I recovered from the shock of suddenly sweeping towards the ground

I've seen Jim nemesis himself (flip side) and lean into it a bit too much - came up with a bloody nose.
Also, at CSS4 my wife Sunny symposium whirled herself with the dex leg landing directly on the catch foot... Ended up breaking the ankle: A piece of bone actually chipped off of the ankle (ouch).
Peace.

Quantum Nosebleeds are fun.
Also I have really slick concrete in my basement, so whenever I try spinning I have to be really careful.
Symp stuff is dangerous down there too.

As a newbie I brought my knee and my face together once or twice. I think it was Eggbeater that got me.
I always advize other newbies when they are working on Ducks or Pixies, reminding them especially that they should be careful when trying Pixie Ducking tricks. I've heard tales of teeth being knocked right out, and it seems an uptime dex and a deliberate lowering of one's head (towards a quickly rising knee) could be a particularly dangerous combination.
One of my first early attempts at flipside symposium mirage brought my knees together so hard that it was years before I ever tried it again.
My most common trick screw-up for a while was with Whirling Swirl; I sometimes bring the toe of my swirling foot straight into the calf of my whirling leg. The two dexes move towards each-other, ya see, so that relative speed of collision is pretty high, and if you do it just right (just wrong) all that force gets focused into one small spot when your toe meets your calf. For some reason, I kind of like it when I do that real hard, thinking to myself something like "yeah, that was a good one!" Its just a bruise, after all, not something real bad like a sprain. It does tend to make me fall right on my ass, though, since both legs get kind of confused and tangled and don't find the ground the way you expected them to.
My best f-up ever, though, had a very happy result. I decided one day that I wanted to learn to do a good cross-body cloud (calf) stall, and in trying to make the bag land right on the calf, it kept rolling off instead. It occurred to me that the roll could be cooler than the stall. Thus was invented the Tootsie Roll, which is now one of my favorite tricks. I never did learn to do that cross-body cloud stall, though.

the last BAD ankle twist I had came from trying high plains drifter. the dexing leg kicked out my support leg after the first dex, and my ankle flopped right over. I was on the floor of jack lentz's freestyle room with a bag of frozen peas for a good 15 minutes. I kicked some more after that, though... probably a bad idea.
the first bad ankle twist I had came from royale. the dexing leg hit the calf of the support leg with the sole facing up, and I heard a pop... that sidelined me for a few days.
yesterday, I tripped on the same ankle while losing my balance during barrage, but it's taken so much damage that I think I'm getting used to it.

I've had my share of double town hits(no balls though), and landing on my clipper foot during whirls, and falling on my ass. But the worst thing that i've ever done, is one time back when I was suffering from achilles tendonitis, I caught my heel on my opposite leg during an eggbeater. Due to the tendonitis, that kind of pressure caused me intense pain. Needless to say, I took the rest of the day off.
I tore 2 ligaments in my right ankle. Still hurts me to this day. Now I'll tell the story.
I was trying my first 3 dex move. It was Smog. I kept trying it until I had it on my foot and missed the seal. I tried one more time. BAD IDEA. I tripped on myself on the DLO and fell on my ankle and then I fell forward and when I got up I couldn't put any pressure on my foot. I decided to take a nap and wait for the pain to go away. My mom got mad at me and took me to the hospital (where she works at) and got xrays. Turns out I fucked my ankle lol I had to take 2 weeks off. That was a shitty 2 weeks

My brain got crossed while I was doing a double down and cranked the support foot. It's still swollen with limited flexibility two years later.
