local sayings in your footbag club
Hey everybody, in our small little club we have a few sayings we like to throw around from time to time. I wanted to share them and give people an opportunity to share theirs. I heard from Grom that CIC has some really funny ones, so I'd like to hear those. Missoula I bet you guys have good ones too. Everyone post your local sayings! I'll start...
Austin:
-"Check me out homes..." -just before attempting a big trick that you may or may not hit, to make sure others are watching
-"Hey... cleanliness check" -before attempting a difficult trick and you want feedback from others on how clean (or not clean) it is.
-"It's all about the CONTACTS!" -when someone is on a long rally run with lots of contacts and just refuses to drop.
I could swear we had some more, but that's all I can think of for now.

"I'll take it!" - When you try a trick and mess up badly but still somehow catch it, like if it lands on the wrong foot, or you kick it with a dexing leg and somehow keep going.
"fluffhead" - like the phish song, if a duck / dive is The.
"good string!" - we say that BEFORE the good string, like if there's a crowd of people approaching or a few people stopping to watch. that's for when we have to represent.

ottered - not quite a seal (dropped hand catch/sealing move)
super tilt! - announced midrun indicating that you bailed to a 1 or 2 add and then continue to throw 1 or 2 adds in for the rest of the run, just for fun.
dooblay smear - the infamous datw>smear combo
DOOOO IT! TOOOOBIUUUUSSSSSSS! - Indicating that you should try/hit the trick you just dropped or the trick that someone just suggests, or in fact, that you should hit tobius. DO IT!

James Randall
Switcharoo! - Not so much a saying but a gesture; If someone puts their right fist in the air, that means they want to switch with someone else. Dan's back story to this is what made this popular among the guys. But then again that applies to just about everything I will be posting here.
"How dat assho' feelz, man?" - How are you feeling? Or how is it/that? Will only explain upon personal inquiry. Personal as in, face to face...
The Churney Effect - This has been around a while but it just recently got a name. It is the slow and eventual trickle out of players when someone undesireable jumps into the circle to play.
"-ish" - suffix added to time of arrival. "I'll be there around 3-ish" translates into, "I will wake up at 4:30... and get there when I get there if I get there at all"
"I'm 'bout to max!" - "I am in an optimum position to consume copious amounts of sustenance." It may also mean that others should be prepared for I am about to do something incredible.
"Chillax" - Chilling & relaxing. We have fine tuned our own brand of recreation to the point that it needed its own name.
"What else I can do?" - Jon inquiring as to what other options he had at his disposal.
"Saaaaasage" or "Thhhaaaaaathhhhage" - James likes the sausage. He will often whisper this in your ear.
"Rooster!" - A sudden and surprise left turn. Explanation will be available in the club blog soon-ish
"That IS a tasty burger!" - means, "This item that I am currently ingesting is quite delicious." From Pulp Fiction.
LaRAZA - stands for Reile And Zeke's Apartment.
"Zeked" - to have an ankle lock applied to you by a dark mexican that's small in stature. Or to physically abuse a small child. Or to kick someone in the face and call it an accident.
"Rav5" - the 5 coolest mutha fuckers to ever rock a mustache in Wisconsin.
"Smoov" - something a bitch hits you with.
It is a true measure of how deep you are in the club by knowing most, if not all of what these mean. It's one big inside joke after another. We can have ENTIRE conversations with our own slang and completley understand each other.

Well, since I play with Cody, I always tell him to use his flipside.
So most of what I say during sessions is:
"INFINITY"
"RIPWALK"
"LEGBEATER"
"FLIP YOU D-BAG"
You got the idea.

I like how none of the CIC sayings Zeke posted have to do with freestyle
. Here's a few more:
"Booge!" - A true CIC classic. It's used as an exclamation of excitement or approval. Hit a huge trick: BOOGE! Open up your fat pack of chicken strips from Villa: BOOGE!
"What time is it?" - Code for when your p-whipped friend bails on a jam or hanging out because he's stuck with the old lady. Can be said right in front of them without them being any the wiser.
"Franjanow" - The sound a stepping set makes. (See also: Franjehr)
"Jakota" - An asshole, a Jack-mo (not to be confused with a Jake-ota)
"You guys are done" - Pronounced " You gice ahr thdon." Generally what you say to you're legs when they are spent from kicking, but could be used any time anyone or anything is done with anything. Must be said with thick ditka-lovin, polish-saaasage eatin chicago accent, and with mild contempt.
"Mem-em" - An exclamation of agreement.
"Well worth it" - Something someone would say when they were pretending to sleep flat on their back while their asshole friend decides to sneak slowly into the room, pull his pants down, and gently dip hit nuts on their face while a mutual friend videotapes it, but just as the nuts get close enough to the face that the asshole friend feels victory is his, the recipient then punches said asshole square in his bare dangling nuts (aka bangling knots) causing him to fall to the ground in pain, ass crack facing the camera. Well worth it - as in, worth having nuts that close to your face for a split second to have forever that moment enshrined on VHS. Must be said in a scraggly cracking voice (like the pimply faced teen from the Simpsons)
"Great Jaerb" - Anytime someone does a good jorb. From Homestar Runner. (Also: Great jorb, great jarb, great jeeaaooooorrrb)
"I can do it. I can do it 9 times" - What you say when you think you can do a trick. Maybe you could do it 9 times, who knows? Also from Homestar Runner.
"is" - Used as punctuation for a question. Example:
Person 1: Is (name of p-whipped friend) coming out today is
Person 2: Nope. What time is it is
Person 1: Oh, I figured.
"CTA" - Acronym for "Camel-toe Annie" which was a skit on the Late Show with Conan O'brien. In Chicago, CTA is also an acronym for "Chicago Transit Authority" which is Chicago's public trasportation service. So saying CTA can be a discreet way of pointing out a camel to to a friend. Especially while riding the bus.
"MMMMMMMM, yes he deeeed!" - Said in the voice of Smokey's mom from the movie Friday. Anytime someone does something really good you should say this. Loudly.
I have a bunch more but I want to leave some for the other homies.

Cornell:
"Count me"- Count the contacts of my next string. Usually used when I practice Shred30, or when somebody is going for a consec move record, or practicing tiltless/guiltless
"LEGS/BOOBS" -These were codewords we used, similar to "good string" before a string. If one of us saw a situation where we wanted the other person to hit a good string and represent, we'd say the code word. Originally, it was "Long Extra-Good String" (LEGS), but I said I was embarassed to say it when a cute girl walked by, so Pascal suggested "Bring Out Our Best Shred" as an alternative. We never settled/came up with a non-funny, non-offensive code word to cue each other.
NYFA has a lot of expressions, but most of them aren't related to footbag, and in many cases make little sense in other contexts either. They include:
"That's what she said!" - No explanation necessary. Sometimes used on purpose in situations where it makes no sense.
"I seen 'em!"- From Half Baked.
"Shoot it in the head! Shoot it in the head!"- From the infamous MC Chris Resident Evil 4/Kingdom Hearts 2 comparison video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3b8G8delDlk

Although techincally not sayings, it is important to note that we have tendencies to talk in thick, terrible hammed-up accents. The first and most prolific of which was the indian (not native americans) accent. We were stuck in a phase for the better part of a year where we would just talk to each other with the accent while other people would often listen to us with a very confused look on their face. It got so bad that we had to make a conscious effort just to speak normally (whatever that may be for us). It was then decided to stop speaking with the accent altogether. It took several months to implement.
While the SNL skit of the Da Superfans had been around for quite some time emphasizing the Chicago accent, we as a club did not start using it until after NYJ 2001. During the after party, Josh Elmer, of the south suburbs may have stared the whole thing innocently(?) enough with one word: Sausage. Pronounced, saaa-sj. This paved the way for "You guys are done!" and James Risdens ever creepy, "...thhaaaaaaathage..." While it is not used as frequently as the indian accent (consciously or otherwise), the Chicago version still rears it's mustached head when emphasis, sincerity and (most importantly) integrity is called for.

Hehe, he's not with the club anymore, and I doubt anyone would know who he is. The real tragedy of that story is that James Risden, who was the camera man for the incident, ended up accidentally taping over most of it so all we had left was a groaning ass crack falling to the ground with a flashlight shining on it and a cracking voice saying "well worth it!" Still pretty good thoughMatt Cross wrote:hahaha, reile, KILLER post! perfect. I loved "well worth it"... I want to know who that's in ref to.
Anyway, I'm a little impatient so I'm going to post a few more of my favorites:
"Woodpeck" - This is the sport that we all play. PLAY WOODPECK! It originated when Tim, James, Tom and my self were kicking at the tennis courts near TIm's house and some hillbilly accent walks up to the fence and begins to talk to us. Here's a transcription of the conversation:
Hillbilly Accent: Whut kinda sport you call dat?
Tom: Footbag
Hillbilly Accent: Who?
Tom: Footbag
Hillbilly Accent: Woodpeck
Tom: Foot........Bag
Tim: Foot (grabs foot)........Bag
Hillbilly Accent: So that's not a ball right?
Hillbilly Accent: Oh it's a bag, like uh beanbag
All of us: Yeah
Hillbilly Accent: Uhkay, where ya - where ya'll play dat at?
Tim: Here
If you go about 9 minutes into CIC July Jams you can actually watch it take place. Here's a link to the video: http://www.footbag.org/gallery/show/1557
"pony" - Probably the most versatile word in the CIC dictionary, pony can be just about anything. When I want to kick I call up all the other ponies to see if they want to play some woodpeck. When we're done, we start "ponying out." Basically, you can pony something the same way smurfs could smurf something I guess. At it's inception, pony had a much more specific meaning describing something a girl could do for you, but it quickly became a generic term for whatever.
"What Color yo hair is?" - This saying originated not long after the club was formed. Back then Tim's hair color changed by the month. So, we were walking up to the recplexx (the indoor site where we kicked during the winter) and these two guys walk up to Tim with his blazing red stop sign colored head and ask: "what color yo hair is?" To which Tim responds: "Red." They both start laughing and say, "He say Raaaaeeeaaaad," and walk away. Doesn't seem so funny to me reading it back now, but at the time it was pretty hilarious. Now it's just a fun thing to quote or we use to ask the color of anything: Take this hypothetical situation for example:
CIC 1: Hey Shplaif
CIC 2: Shiggity-Shiggity-Shwaf?
CIC 1: Guess what idoith? What you did today?
CIC 2: Ahh
CIC 1: WRAAANG!
CIC 1: Hey, I got a new car.
CIC 2: You did not
CIC 1: Swear to god, got it at Chonkey's for two dollar.
CIC 2: Oh yeah? What color it's hair is?
CIC 1: Red.
CIC 2: wow!
Now that situation would never actually happen because no one in CIC would ever get a new car, let alone a car. But if one of us did, that's how we would talk about it.
"titties & asshole" - Anything that's really good, better than titties & ass.
CIC 1: How does that sammich taste?
CIC 2: Fuckin titties and asshole man!
CIC 1:
CIC 1: I want one!
"What you say!!" - Taken from the intro to that SNES video game that "All your base are belong to us" is taken from. James Risden and Matt Kain especially liked saying this one. When you say it you have to get your upper body parallel to the floor, cover your face and hold out your fist like this:

"EEEEE, das raw" What you say when you're really impressed with a string.
"yaych!" - What you say when you snatch something, or almost hit a trick. Or when you smack a trick in the mouf. YAYCH!
"prince" - Something that is good.
CIC 1: Did you guys go see Reign of Fire last night?
CIC 2: Yeah
CIC 1: How was it?
CIC 2: Not prince at all, but as we were leaving the theater we walked by this bitch who said with utter sincerity, "That.... was such... a good ...movie!"
CIC 1: Haha
CIC 2: We all started laughing, Tim laughed so hard he crashed into the wall next to her. It was such a prince-ass moment.
"asspipe" or simply "pipe" - In reference to a woman's ass, but not the actual pipe within.
CIC 1: Damn! Check out the asspipe on her.
CIC 2: Wow, I'm looking at her asspipe now too!
CIC 1: Let's have a seat here and talk about her pipe for a while.
CIC 2: Good plan.
edit: Ok, one more:
"Snatchola" - In CIC we are never as crude as to refer to a woman's reproductive organs as a snatch. We say Snatchola. Very common in the "would you rather" game.
CIC 1: Would you rather.....
CIC 1: ......have two extra assholes, one on each knee, that fuctioned simultaniously with your regular one OR have a non-functional snatchola on your forehead. And if you pick the snatchola on the forehead, you have to shave your bangs off for the rest of your life so the snatchola is visible.
CIC 2: Ooh! Ouch. Well...... maybe I'd take the snatchola forehead, I could wear a hat right?
CIC 1: Yeah I guess, I hadn't though of that. I probably would too.
"That was dirty." - referring to a trick that was not clean or to a trick that was disgustingly good. It's all about context.
"THE!!!" - used to distract a player during their run.
"That/You sucked/suck!" - used as a form of props.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

ha this is such a great thread. boston shred crew has some stupid ones.
HACK!- this is what we yell when everyone touches the bag before it hits the ground
, but only when everyone just barely gets a toe on it and no one manages to get it under control for any type of string. the hacky slackers we often play with are like: "yeah! a hack!" and the freestylers just smile.
alright. off the ground. offa. the. ground.- this is for encouragment when no one can seem to keep the bag off the ground and it drops on stupid crap several times in a row.
doublegOVER- pronounced how it looks. used to make fun of a certain crew member. shh
i'll post more if i think of them
