Yeah it's quite complicated

Do you use "friend" in the sense of buddy / chum / fellow / pal / mate or what word do you use ?

The problem is I want to ask a question about the usage of a word but I have to use the word to ask about it (I hope this makes any sense whatsoever

)

Yea, "friend" is used like "good buddy". If you were having a relationship with a friend, (or anyone for that matter) they would then be your boyfriend or girlfriend.

Finally I understand

Problem is that I am Swiss (so I speak Swiss German) but I learned German when I was very young (so some German words infiltrated my Swiss German language) then there is Swiss German "slang" and in the end it gets rather complicated to translate something into English because I don't know if the translation of the Swiss German word is in common use or if it actually exists at all

I guess they don't use it in the USA as much, but in Canada, saying things like "mate" and "cheers" and so on has caught on, and all of the hip kids are saying it, and other British colloquialisms.

I use mate when referring to people.....I have a very odd dialect....sort of a mix between hick and yooper......

yeah i use mate and cheers alot because my dad and his parents are from scottland and i just grew up around that kind of slang. however, now that i think about it i have noticed a greater number of people using it around town. i guess it never phased me because i have always been saying it.

I believe we call this a milk-shake or in French "un milkshake".

I must admit that I use mate / cheers and other English terms a lot.

Most of 'em are just me being silly, but they all stem from something. Like instead of saying what's up, I say, Wyatt Erp?
And that comes from, what's up, to sup?, to sssssssurp? to syrrrrrrrrup? to whys erp? to wyatt erp? ..... That progression took a while though

You can smoke semi-freely in Canada. I dunno what it's like in the USA. But as long as you're not in the middle of the street, or at least keep an eye out, you are fine. I smoked up with a coworker just outside of the CSIS (Canadian CIA) building in Toronto...

I think most Canadians really dislike the USA in general... I can't really say. That is how I see it. I have this USA Boy Scouts shirt that I rather like, that my girlfriend bought me, but it has a USA flag on it, so I avoid wearing it in public. (I've also thought of tearing off the patch).

I don't really know about the death toll, but Winnipeg is, like, the murder capital of Canada, and we don't really lock our doors at night or anything... I don't think I've, like, ever seen a gun in my life. Well, maybe once laying in a closet, and I was quite shocked.

i have a police shirt i got from goodwill. i left the usa patch on, cause otherwise, its a stupid shirt. (tom morello from rage used to wear boyscout shirts and shit.... i think)

so what do canadians call pancakes? griddlecakes? probly not flap jacks. happy cakes?

do you still say BLT if you order that at a french restaraunt?

i think the death toll in 2005 or 2004 was either around 50 or 100.
I remember hearing about it in some documentry movie with that one fat guy from america, who hates america, and exposes the corruption behind the US government.

Is canada super cool to footbaggers/hackers?

As for what Canadians think about Americans.

The general opinion of my friends who do not have family in the US, just think americans are ignorant, fat/unhealthy, lazy and uncultured people...

My friends or myself, who do have family in the US, just think americans as a whole are less educated and less 'worldly' as Canadians. It isn't that they are stupid, just that with the american media, lifestyle, and mental outlook on life, it would be impossible to expect anything different.

As for Canadians accepting footbag, it goes up and down as in America I would assume. Some people walk right into you, some people stop and ask questions -> try kicking a few times -> mention how much skill you have, but very very rarely does anyone say "that is stupid" or something. If anything, they say "different" or "crazy" or "talented" or something.

I found in Germany they were ALOT more accepting, and (less) people walked right into your circle as your were playing. I never heard a negative remark, and they usually just wanted to know what the objective was, and what the bag was made of.
