Yea man, i had dreads for about 2 weeks or so then had to cut them off for graduation . So yea, i didnt really take all that good care of them, i started washing my hair w/ regualr shampoo after 4 days just cuz i couldnt stand how greasy they felt and it didnt seem to take too much of a toll on my dreads, but then again if i had stayed w/ that routine for a couple months, my hair prolly woulda started to undread, or just get a lot of loose ends.... i love run on sentences....

Anwyho, i had mixed feelings when i had to cut em, cuz they looked so dam badass (i got soooo many comments on my hair in those 2 weeks) but they were also a hassle, so it was kinda okay. Just so this post isnt completely useless, i guess my only advice is get a freind to cut them off when the time comes cuz when i went to the barber they shampooed the dreads out and pulled and pulled and pulled at the roots and it hurt a lot and they had to use all this special shit that ended up costing $25... so yea, just get a friend to cut em off then go to a barber for any special maintence, i guess. haha, good luck with the dreads!

Peace

Mine havn't gotten greasy at all, and they're starting to lock up pretty tight now. I've been taking the bands off the tips of a few of them and they're starting to round off and look pretty sweet. Though every time I wash them they get really frizzy for a while afterwards, I've been working on controlling the frizz but it just doesn't want to go away. Aside from that, the hair at the roots isn't as tight as the rest.... Maybe this is normal though...

i had dreads a while back, you can see me shred with them in the hackrifice video from 2005. any way, loose roots are normal. the roots you need to backcomb and wax every so often, i was doing it weekly.
