reverse whirl vs. butterfly

This is kind of inspired by Matt and Rob's discussion in the quantum/atomic thread, but I thought this topic deserved its own thread.

Anyways, I don't understand the difference between reverse whirl and butterfly... could someone explain it for me?

isnt the difference between these two tricks just within the way youre performing the dex?ie upper/complete leg movement dex for butterfly/lower leg movement dex for reverse whirl.

yes. dan has it right.

the main difference is:
-for whirl/rev whirl you need to point your knee inward while the dex is performed.
-for butterfly you need to point your knee outward.

that should help you.
when i was just beginning i would do butterfly and id be all like, "yeah, reverse whirl!". that must have frustrated people. hehe.

butterfly = hip movement
rev whirl = knee movement

It is possible therefore to do a butterfly reverse whirl allthough I don't know if it would look good. It'd probably look like a weird paradon/double over down. I know that my DOD's (on my good side) look like a low set fairy reverse whirl without the plant. Paradon barly and down double look "normal" though.

Another thing: in the poll I voted for Vasek allthough I wouldn't bet on him winning, but still I think he'll "dominate" worlds just as Ryan did when Scott Davidson beat him in the finals (1999 I think).

your knee doesnt move in rev whirl that much at all. its all in the lower leg.

When I think of Reverse Whirl I think of Eric Wulff's Dyno from the '98 videos on footbag.org. The dex doesn't look anything like a butterfly but instead a whirl the op way (like it should). I don't like people doing a butterfly bail osis and calling it a dyno because it looks bad (motion's another story). Just my input...
