Andrew's Scriptures

Post by macca »

Hey guys,

I'm Andrew McIntosh from Melbourne Australia and have been playing in circles for a couple of years but only started learning other tricks besides a pixie and basic stalls a week ago or so (1/5/07). I'm 14 and I also play basketball and other various sports :) Hope to see some feedback.

In this blog ill pretty much be writing a diary of my progress in freestyle and what some moves I hit each day.

So far this is my list of tricks I can hit alright (3 times in a row at least):

Toe Stall - bs
Inside Stall- bs
Outside Stall - bs
Shoulder- bs
Head- bs
Lap- bs
Clipper - bs
Knee- bs
Temple- ss
Legover - bs
ATW - bs
Pixie - ss
Pickup- bs
Pincher- ss
Mirage -bs
Flapper- working on it
Jester- bs
Dragonfly- bs
Clipper Legover- ss
Clipper Mirage- bs
Clipper Pickup- ss
Whirl- none (almost have it nailed)
Clipper Ducking- bs
Smear (Pixie Mirage)- ss
Butterfly- ss 3/5 times
Paradox Mirage - ss
Symposium Mirage - ss

I would love it if people could comment and give advice for some problems with tricks and stalls etc...

This first post will be the most updated post so keep checking!

Today

Ive just been trying to get consistent at my Legover and Pickup. But my left side legover isnt always landing on the foot. But my right legover is getting alot better pretty quickly.

As for the Pickup / ATW, its not landing on my foot because I lose sight of it 1/2 way through dex because im fixing my technique. So instead of spotting it from the outside I am spotting it from the inside to get an even dex.

I havent posted much lately but now that I can play some more with my music exam out of the way I am picking up some stuff quicker now.

Today:

I had the best session today for a while even though I only played for an hour. I hit most of the stuff I wanted to hit not only on ss but also on flipside. I hit a nice combo of what I have learnt so far this included: atw -> mirage -> legover -> atw -> legover -> mirage

I was very happy with this sting because it was very clean and I did it a few times. So im very happy with what I have learnt.

- - - - - - - - - - -

Forgot to mention about what I did on Sunday. Well I got to play with Dan Ednie, James Yip, Janis, Yas (not to sure about his surname) and one other person who I didnt quite catch his name but was very nice person.

Anyways this was at the usual spot at Alexandra Gardens where played. It was really fun and I was hitting mirages lots, I got a couple of pinchers as well but they werent clean. I also hit some new combos which I didnt think I could do. But I learnt heaps from Janis and Dan and they were giving me tips the whole time when I needed them, this really helped me improve.

I was pretty sore that night so I decided not to shred that night. Cant wait to go again in 2 weeks time!

Had a good session yesterday I hit a nice combo suggested by James:

wrap -> mirage -> legover -> legover -> mirage -> atw

I hit it after a while and I noticed my ankle crank had improved alot. After some practiced alot I hit it fluently and with no mistakes. Good session, had some fun and I also nailed down some of the tricks and stalls which Dan suggested.

I played today for 45 minutes or so. It wasn't a great session but I was working on my flip side mirages and atw's some more. I also tried a few pickup's which I hadn't learned before, but I had no real close attempts.

I tried dragon a few times, but I don't really know how to cushion it, cause whatever I tried, my foot would go crooked.

However today I saw some massive improvement in my flip side mirages. I was getting very close, and I think my muscles are adjusting. So today was a productive session, but not my funnest.

Well well well...It has been a while since I updated this. But I have been playing lots more lately now that my exams are out of the way.

Since I have played a lot recently I will just comment on the session I had about an hour ago.

Well it was a really good session. I had downloaded a video from http://modified.in/footbag/viewtopic.php?t=16582 and it was a nice video. But I really loved the song. It had a real nice beat to it and a few climaxes. This worked well because you can play footbag to it really easily and fluently.

So for pretty much the whole session I was replaying the video.

I hit a few flip side mirages and lots of strong side mirages. I worked lots on my inside stalls for both sides. This went well and I felt I improved. I also attempted some clippers. Surprisingly I hit lots of clippers when I was concentrating my hardest. Not only did I hit some decent flip side mirages and clippers, but I did them in strings with a semi-tiltless run (a couple of toe stall bails)

Anyways footbag is going well and i'm really enjoying it.

Hey, haven't actually done much on my blog, but I have learnt heaps since I last posted!

Although I haven't updated my 'scripture' much, I have shredded heaps. So much has happened, so I am gonna speak about what I have done, then what tricks I have learnt.

Well recently me and a mate Cam Fyfe have been playing heaps where we met Scott up at our local shopping centre. Scott is an awesome footbag player, and we should be shredding with him in a couple of weeks!

Well thats my big event, so I might just speak about my progress.

I have been shredding for hours on end these days, last week I played for around 15 hours, not too much but I didn't play on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. So it added up in the end. I learnt new tricks like clipper set pickup, legover and mirage. I have also been working on my flipside clippers.

Check my first post for my new tricks :)

Been shredding lots recently.

Today I had a session with Daniel Boyle and 4 of my mates. It was hot so we played in the shade at federation square. I was working on my pixies with advice from Dan. I eventually got Smear and now I'm working on flipside smear and flipside pixie sets.

I'm going to start eating healthy in preparation for my massive holiday footbag spree. I'm planning to play over 80 hours of footbag in 2 weeks on the holidays :) And I believe I need to get real healthy so I am fit enough to play that much.

Also I need to make a list of tricks which will be my goal by the end of the holidays to perfect. I'm aiming to nail every 3 add trick by the end of the holidays, or at least a majority of them.

Anyways back to homework :)

Had a on and off session today. I was trying to hit pixie set mirage a lot more, but I ended up working on my pixies. Also I fixed my legover, mirage and ATW technique even more so I can see the bag better.

I feel I'm improving when I practice, but I just need to practice more and spend more time on a range of tricks not just one. Good session overall!
