also, I will have a picture of footbag #82 to post later, which I'm pleased about. #83 went to london, and I was planning on keeping it, but gave it to fabrice. #84 was another one I was going to keep, but vince from buffalo practically crammed $30 in my hands last week, and I sold it to him. #85, I banged out at work just before leaving for mike's wedding, and gave it to him there. So it will be nice to have a picture of a recent one.
Didn't play yesterday, got caught up in a laundry debacle and went swimming with some friends instead, might post a few pics from that later as well. we'll see.

no footbag yesterday, probably none today, but tomorrow is buffalo. Who else will go? I officially resolve to play better this week than I did last week. my style was lame last week. very repetitive. Even if I have to bring down my difficulty level, I'm going to go for more variety this week.
also, I am done selling bags until worlds comes. I need to have bags for sale when I get there. So, 86 onward will be for worlds. 86 is more than half done. It's looking pretty handsome. It's princess purple and country cream in a tri-claw variation (the one where the claws have fat fingertips instead of pointy ones). I'm having fun making really pretty bags with cool patterns that are coming out soft. I like my bags now. I've liked them for a while, but I like them more now.
my new youtube videos are going over pretty well, I'm happy about that. I've got some songs I've been meaning to record for a while. I should just make my next album.

Tonight is buffalo. I'm so excited! I just had a bowl of cereal, and I'll have a good big lunch, then get some fruit on the way, and hopefully I can play all right when I get there. I hope Rochester and Syracuse people will come. It's been so great having them to shred with this summer. Buffalo is IT!!
Talks are moving forward with MTV. I made a little self-promo video that I sent them last night, and Barrett thought it was great. However, we got to talking about how much time per day is spent on camera, etc, and I got to thinking about what it's going to be like if I perform badly on national TV. Granted, the thing isn't all about competition, but I've still got mixed feelings about it.
Please post if you've got thoughts on this. How would you feel about having your failures at a footbag tournament broadcast around the country? I guess I need to start thinking about it more positively, that's what waylon says. I KNOW I can at least get out of my first pool if I choreograph well. Most players totally neglect choreography. Routine training starts tomorrow, i guess, being as buffalo is tonight. I hope, anyway. Haven't spoken to Jack yet.

fun RFA session yesterday... a few new things, food > whirlwind, and zulu ps whirl BS (both first times). Stitching is slow. sleep is lacking. should have cut out some panels for work today, didn't make the time. I've got good colors and pattern picked out for my next bag. now I've just got to sweat it out.

haha, thanks for the inspiration, alan. I wrote that last post this morning after my very first few sips of coffee... still asleep, basically.
So, friday night, I stayed in and drank alone. I love a good drink alone evening. I needed some rest after the night before anyway... and on that note, I've made a new friend
on saturday, I woke by late morning and started to mobilize myself for a trip to Rochester. I packed up the footbag gear and music stuff and was in Rochester by 3. I grabbed my friend Amos and we bought beer for his party later that night. Amos has been one of the biggest musical influences of my life, and a lot of my favorite songs have come directly from riding the wave of his influence and company. So, he's one of the most special people to me. anyway, I dropped him off after the beer, and went for sushi at my favorite place (which I've written about in detail in this blog many times, and brought many of you during RFA footbag events). I drank beer and ate sushi with my friend ted, and then we hung out at his house and recorded some collaborative musical / poetic efforts that I hope to post on youtube tonight.
After that, ted broke out and unsealed a 30 year old family heirloom bottle of crown royal, which I had a nice portion of. Most certainly the most wonderful, enjoyable drink I've had in quite a while. Really special. Then, we went to a classic car party and ate some barbecue and I drank more. At this point, I was pretty drunk. Actually, I'd been drunker before the party, and then moved on to beers to bring myself down a little. We looked at cars, and then parted ways.
I made my way to amos's house, and he was cooking, so I ran off to Java's to play guitar, and I sat in the alley and smoked a cigarette and played music with a friend I'd forgotten, then played music alone and made a new friend. we sat on opposite sides of the alley, and I played music for 5 minutes, and we'd exchange a few casual words, hardly anything, then I'd play for a few more minutes, and talk just a little more, and then more guitar. After a bit, we had an actual conversation about the point of being an artist, and validity of artists, and the illusion of "technical = good", which is an unfortunate illusion a lot of artists get caught up in, and only a few really succeed at, and then with limited response anyway.
so, that chat ended, and I made it back to the jam, and we partied for a while, and when it was time for someone to start, I was the guy, because I don't really mind going first and getting the jam going. So, I played a medley of "I wanna fuck you" by Akon, and "I'm no Good" by Amy Winehouse, then I played a song of mine, then others took over. My friends, the soups of the day, played next, and I did a little freestyle rap about sandwiches in their song.
The rest of the night was filled with ben folds and rock and roll and partying and new friends and old friends. wonderful time. I hope I can make it back next week for the same party. I went the week previous this one, as well. I love going back to rochester.
The next morning, I woke up at noon and arrived late to the session. Mike and Chris were already kicking, and I put my gear on and joined the circle. Chris was off the hook. He can throw down fume and smoke both sides midstring with good links whenever he wants, it's really ridic. Something else I saw from him during the session has been on my wish list for a while: Chris Dean can do furious! and on both sides! He has a great looking furious set, I can't wait to see him lay that down more. I was so pleased. Mike was solid, but he was in pain so he was holding back a little. Doug showed up after I arrived, and he was shuffling away... hit ps rev whirl with almost no effort, that was a great surprise! I had some fun too, I hit food > whirlwind, and zulu ps whirl both sides. I was psyched about that last one there.
After the session, I went for more sushi with mike and his bride julia. we had a nice supper, and then I drove out to greece (just north of Roc) to have a recording session with my friend Tom Kaminski. I layed down two new tracks of mine, waltzes about different stages of romance, and Nora will be doing vocals and guitar on them hopefully today. I can't wait to post them on myspace. I'll also do videos of those songs for those of you who might like to see them on youtube.
Then I drove home, exhausted as usual. but it was a great day. good freestyle, good food, good music, great friends. Now it's today. Work is slow. I am stitching, finally. 25% done with #87. back to it.

well, I've stitched 5 bags in the past 4 days, which had me at 6 total for sale at worlds, but today I picked one of those 5 to be my own, for two reasons: 1, as a vending stitcher, I have a responsibility to use my own product so I can know it and improve it and 2, when I was stitching #89, some of the stitches were too close together, which I feel will make it more prone to breakage. so, i just went and had a session with it, and HOLY CRAP! I couldn't believe how well it played! it felt JUST like my choicest lonn ever, which I lost last summer (except heavier, which I prefer), and now that it's had a session with lots of sweat and rain and kicks and stalls, frankly, it looks like that lonn, too! I'm loving the color combo; it's country cream hexes with flash red pents, single floss 6 stitch, about 55 grams of lead and 2 or 3 grams of plastic pellets. It is the best-feeling bag of mine that I've played with, which makes sense, because it's one of the most recent of mine, so it SHOULD be my best work, goddammit!!
So, regarding the session, I hit arr dub B2B for the first time (say it out loud, you'll get it), ripstein bsos a couple times, whirling swirl bsos a few times, maybe flurry BSOS (strong side was probably thin), and in general, a few good strings in which I was feeling pretty strong and was hitting genuine combos.
that was a fun session. I was feeling pretty strong, I think it comes from having eaten good stuff today. I was going to go to buffalo, but jack decided against it because of the weather, but we'll get together on monday to play footbag with the kids from the job corp.
I'm glad all this stitching is going well, and that I'm getting paid to do it at work! this is the week from heaven! I watched almost the whole first season of south park at work yesterday, and almost the whole second season today, stitching the whole while. I was sluggish today, and only did one bag, whereas I was doing over 1.5 for the 3 days before today. I may stitch more today. it feels good to have a pile of my own bags in my hand, and I want lots of drinking money for worlds.
tom mosher was telling me how he had had a session with some of the FAT players, and josh lackey broke out his MC bag for a while, and that it was really choice, and that josh didn't want to use it for the whole session because he wanted to keep it for as long as possible, and that made me feel really good. it's great to know that my bags are coming out all right.
I've been smoking cigarettes for the past few days, but I woke up feeling crappy today, and decided that I don't need to get going on that shit again after having quit a few years ago, so that's that.
Worlds is soon. I've pretty much given up on doing a routine. I'm totally winded by 60 seconds, even with a low key beginning. I will do shred 30, and have a great time kicking and selling bags and partying and not worrying about routines. I am so psyched to be with everyone. the MTV thing didn't work out, and frankly, I'm glad. it would have been great promo, but also a huge hassle, guaranteed, and might have significantly detracted from the fun and wonderfulness that is going to be this worlds. Now, if only I had transpo figured out once I'm there...

What's your issue with transportation at worlds? Are you referring to terra verde to the site and back? We will have a big dumb van that should have room for a wee little matt.

well, the session with jack and dan was fun. during work after my last post, I hit downtime symp egg for the first time, and at the job corp session, I took some time aside from shred and worked on blurry whirling swirl until I hit it! 2 new moves, one day! that's good for me. now to get them both on the flip. both were close. I've wanted blurry whirling swirl for a while now.

i am in rome, drinking morning coffee and fondling my footbags for worlds. I would have 8 for sale, but I accidentally sold 2 the other night at thursday in the square. One, I sold to vinnie, the 17 year old freestyler from buffalo. Then, I sold another to a random guy in the parking lot of Martin's grocery, which was kinda bizarre. He was stoned, walking by with a woman, and they saw me kicking, and came over to say hi and see the kicking. They noticed my bag, and I said how I'd made it, and offered to show them some more. I broke them out, and the guy was feeling one, and asked my price, which I told him, and he pulled out his wallet and paid. I couldn't resist.
So, I'll stitch another one today, and have at least 7 for sale. I'm doing pretty well for money right now, so I guess I'm not dying to have a huge pile of bags to sell, but I WOULD like to maximize earnings and product exposure at worlds.
Maybe, if I've got enough footbags, I can hold my own competition or something and offer one as a prize. Now I just have to think up the competition. That will be fun... maybe a "weird one". I love that competition. I regret my choice as dave clavens as the winner of weird one at grass. he hit genesis walkover, which was HUGE, but not incredibly weird. James McCullough hit muted zulu doof, which is also huge (but not as technical) and much weirder, and I wish I'd chosen him as the winner, but the massiveness of dave's trick clouded my judgement. anyway, I can do better at worlds if I want. I'm not sure what I'll do, this is all running on stream-of-consciousness coffee buzz right now.
I'm going to go mow the lawn for my parents. see you in florida.

So, I'll stitch another one today, and have at least 7 for sale. I'm doing pretty well for money right now, so I guess I'm not dying to have a huge pile of bags to sell, but I WOULD like to maximize earnings and product exposure at worlds.
Maybe, if I've got enough footbags, I can hold my own competition or something and offer one as a prize. Now I just have to think up the competition. That will be fun... maybe a "weird one". I love that competition. I regret my choice as dave clavens as the winner of weird one at grass. he hit genesis walkover, which was HUGE, but not incredibly weird. James McCullough hit muted zulu doof, which is also huge (but not as technical) and much weirder, and I wish I'd chosen him as the winner, but the massiveness of dave's trick clouded my judgement. anyway, I can do better at worlds if I want. I'm not sure what I'll do, this is all running on stream-of-consciousness coffee buzz right now.
I'm going to go mow the lawn for my parents. see you in florida.

just got done with a session with sam and ashley. I think it was some of my best playing. I ended the session with flurry bsos, and a few strings later, ripstein > superfly really cleanly. it is hot out. even the pool is hot. Sam is really good at 4 square, so is ashley. I think I beat her by 2 points after a long standoff, sam beat me by about 10 points. sam is about to go to work, and ashley and I are going to go shopping for drinks and stuff, then probably come back and watch a move and I'm going to stitch. I hope people at worlds have good fill for me to steal and fill a bag or two with.
