It's raining a little bit and my co-workers and I are manipulative little bastards so we got our boss to give us the day off. So I've decided to come to modified and write the first truly worthwhile post in a little while:

First off, the Shred yesterday:
Ben Ray and I went to Rochester yesterday and met up with Tankard and Deen. We had a smashing good time. Ben and I got to Doug's a bit on the early side so we just hacked in his driveway for a second, got our legs unstiff, and then went to the Erie Canal to shred for a while. Ben was saving energy so he was just doing some flowy easy strings. Doug and I, on the other hand, are stupid, and were playing as per usual (way too hard for our own good). Some highlights of THAT little pre-shred session were a few drifter runs by me, some incredible pixie drillin' runs by Doug, and Ben was trying all sorts of three dex tricks all based around merlin and voodoo again. We also did a few rippin' runs against each other and Doug and I had a huge epic head-to-head rippin' run that lasted longer than I had hoped. Not sure what he was doing but he gave me a run for my money and I had to bail a lot to osis (which Ben made perfectly clear to me after it was over) in order to stay alive. Then the Rea wanted his shot at me and I put him back in his place. So that was a little competition and shred there before Chris even got into the Pittsford/RIT area.

Around 4:30 we got to RIT and Chris was there. Then we really started to play footbag. My first couple strings were really good and bothsided and very up to where I need to be in terms of trick variety and difficulty. But then I hit a slump for about a half hour where I sucked something awful. My three cohorts were playing real well, though, which is fine by me. Chris was looking kind of all over the place, but was hitting some real nice strings and huge tricks. Some highlights for ME about their runs:

Dean - run with vertigo bsos at least once. He was showing us some of his wacky sets like spinning nuclear and swirling gyro (I think that's what it was..) and whirling sets. He also hit firefly>blender which just looked really cool. The blender was really far behind him. And, as always, he hits pdx torques and mobius in the hardest and most impressive places in his strings.

Ben - he hit merlin in front of me for the first time. The length of his strings are also improving a lot since I've gotten to play with him in the past month n' change. Toward the end of the loong session he was doing stepping op. symp dyno and farside symp dyno. And ducking. As always stepping was with him. Lots of it was out of osis (stepping ss osis, to be precise) and they always look too easy. Gyro rev whirl was footed as well. Not sure if it was hit. I may not have been looking.

Doug - he's still kind of struggling with stepping things but he's definitely getting there. There were sidewalk bsos and ripwalks all over the place. Otherwise, it was the same ol' impressive incredibly controlled tiltless-guiltless strings I've come to be impressed by. He has a really strong foundation and it's all looking too easy for him now. Osis is the only thing standing in his way and I'm sure it won't be for long. His spinning is also making an appearance every now and then and it's always cool to see since he sets it perfectly - he's still new at it so he may turn too slowly or just can't figure out something to do once he DOES spin all the way around so he usually bails to a toe stall or a clipper but the fact remains that it's a perfect set with loads of time and he can put it in runs any time he wants, which is something I know I had to work at for a while when I learned spinning. Barrage bsos and terrages were also struck. Crazy.

Myself - All it took was a cup of coffee and a bagel and I was back from my slump. Chris gave me some real help with my blenders and I think I can get that pulled together both sides real soon with what he said in my mind. I almost ducked atomic. whirl > rev whirl > infinity > whirl > revw whirl after an attempt or two just because I could. It's not that difficult but it's something I rarely do and it looks pretty cool I guess. After we ate my spinning was on, which was cool. So after I tried blender for a little I just went back to trying stylized runs with spinning, ducking, whirls, and drifters strewn about the place. I was next to Chris and he had a go with the bag and hit vortex bsos but that was more or less it (surprisingly) and I got the bag and went right for vortex (the cocky son of a bitch that I am) and almost hit it without really wanting to. I can do them. But they usually take more effort than what I had done, which was kinda cool and it made chris laugh. In hindsight I didn't use nearly enough atomic in my strings as I should've and it sucks. I was mostly doing pixie and stepping and I know I can do more. That's what happens when I'm just trying to do long strings and have fun and not push myself when I probably need to. . . I just bail to sets and combos I know I can do and when I fail at them I get down on myself easily. I'd be much more comfortable dropping on a mobius than on a pixie ss clipper. Obviously.

STITCHING - Yep. Ben brought some supplies with him and he taught me the basics on how to start a bag and do the first flower (?) of a 12 panel. I didn't screw up too bad and I'll probably bring the baggy camping this weekend so I can finish the second flower. It's dark red and green. If it comes out alright that'll be awesome because I really like the color scheme and I'm not going to use a lot of gather so it'll be a little floppier. I can use it as a practice bag that I can use to try new things. It's like a sandman only more reliable and BETTER.

* anyway I really enjoyed myself yesterday and played pretty well for the better part of the day. AND MY LEGS AREN'T DESTROYED! That's the best part, I think. We played for around 5 hours or more. Those upper leg exercises are really helping I think. Well I'm going camping in the Adirondacks (sp) this weekend with a whole bunch of my pals from hikeschool so that should be disastrously fun. I think it's supposed to rain a little and be cold and miserable today but it's supposed to be nice saturday and sunday.

now I'm off to kill a few hours cleaning the house, washing my cross bag, and then it's off to help some people packing up for the trip.

Quick session with the Ray. It wasn't shining today, but that's alright. We fight another day.

My power meter was only at about 70% today, but I managed to hit anti-clipper set ripwalk. I can step from it. So I'll probably hit anti blur and anti blizzard and anti lots - o - things tomorrow. Oh and I hurt myself on blender. Again. C'est la vie. My flip atomic is coming along. . . swimmingly. Again. And ducking and diving were feeling pretty good.

Ben's holly bag is going to be super rad.

I like sweet tea.

Will Ferrell can suck a fuck for all I care.

We were listening to my phi-life cypher CD again and we realized that in this one album they say the names of about 8 footbag tricks. Ben thought at one point the guy said "fairy tomahawk" but instead he says "firing tomahawk missiles" . . but hey. Tomahawk, right? Yeah. And he says a whole bunch of others. We'll have to make a list next time we play with it.

Ben's holly bag is going to be super rad. I still take better care of my Cross bag than myself.

I like sweet tea.

I need to go and have some dinner with some pals. Peace.

yeah I was just messin'. Will Ferrell is alright by me. He's either ridiculously funny or kind of an assclown (copyright). Depends. I've usually been pretty good about seeing the movies he's really good in and those he's not. I watched Anchorman last night so it was on my mind.

as for buffalo I don't know. I guess I'd like to but um. Yeah. Gas = money = bad. I'm kind of in hot water with my folks because I haven't been saving enough money as I thought. I honestly have no idea what I've been spending money on. Movies? Meh. Food. Yeah but they don't care about that. But I haven't been able to track down a wii, I've only bought a couple CDs so far, and I don't buy DVDs anymore. Sooo yeah. I have no idea where my money has gone. Gas is the only other thing. And I have been driving around a LOT so I suppose it makes sense.

 we'll see. I'll talk to Ben at the session tomorrow and see what he's feeling like. He's still on workers comp till monday so he's FREE. I'll PM later to see what's really going on.

Oh um and footbag news for this blog. Well I went Barnes and Noble for a cup of tea (I likes me my black tea) and there was a group of circle kickers outside of the entrance. So I told my friend to go in and stand in line for me while I hacked for a second. Flying clipper > opp flying clipper > osis > pass . . and then I went in for the tea. Not much of a story, but it's something at least. Even if I don't shred (though I played today) somehow this crazy game makes it into my life. Just won't leave me alone!!!

I ain't complaining. :D

stepping out of toesis!?!? Are you mad!?

. . . you're on. I'll see YOU at the skatepark at 0430 or any other time you want. I mean it's going to be crazy hot today so playing after the dinnerish hour is fine by me as well.

almost two hours working on things. I've decided it's time once again to go back and clean up a few loose ends here and there. It was a good day and the bag stuck well. I played with the Cross bag.
I'm not sure what to say. There are some things about the way I play this game that really annoy me sometimes. Other people have had the same types of problems, I'm sure, but it's still really bothersome. Some of the things on my mind are the fact that I lose the ability to do some things I once had down so easily and they aren't even all that difficult. I find myself dropping the bag on links that are intermediate level combos but I find them easy - and just as easily dropped. They are all things I should be hitting consistently but for some reason it just won't come no matter how long I've been practicing. I've lost count as to how many times I've dropped the bag the last few sessions and just said "Gha. Too easy." under my breath. And they were. I'm not being pompous. Stuff like ripwalk > whirl rpt. and spinning things - SPINNING for christs sake! That was supposed to be my bread and butter! Now my flip is stronger than my strong and I struggle spinning out of pdx whirl and ripwalks. !?
I also have this habit of playing as if I can easily do all of the things I do. I was talking to Ben about this the other day. I have a real easy style and I move pretty slowly (in a good way). Like when doing DLOs and torques and stuff. I don't try to hit them. I just do the motion and hope for the best. It's more than that, though. I KNOW I will hit it. And when I don't, which seems to be the case a lot of the time, I just blame it on fate. I do the trick correctly. I don't have to go the speed of light to hit what I see people moving at the calmer pace to do. And when the day is said and done I have no idea if this is the way to go or not. Should I break a sweat over pdx DLO or torque, just because they require more energy and movement than, say, a pdx mirage or toe drifter? I've done them my way AND the "other way". Not a clue.

anyway it was a fine session. Hit the things I needed to prove to myself I could do them and did a few new links with awkward tricks I can do, but usually never throw down in strings like pandora and ducking and diving pickup/legover, etc.

I stopped short of the two hour mark for one reason and it's probably the one thing I hate about my game right now: double dexes. Just the thought about writing about my troubles with them is giving me a headache. I'm just about 90% one-sided with doubles and even my strong side is wavering in the wind. They tell me they're clean, they're deep. But what's that do for me if I can't be confident enough to do them midstring or on my flipside? Well for what it was worth I practiced double dexes throughout the session. Flip terrage, flip datw (inout outin), flip DOD, flip barfly. Ugh. . . . a couple people have told me they have one or two concepts that have always given them a hard time since they started. I think I just seriously confronted my enemy for the first time today. I wasn't too sure if it was going to be stepping or double dexes. But it's clear to me now. And it's going to suck. But I say bring it on. I haven't ended a session as down on myself as I had today so suddenly in about a year.

music for the session:
The Damned - Epic Years
The Offspring - Conspiracy of One, Ignition

it was pretty freakin' hot today. My skin thanked me. Peace.

Awww did wittoe pat have a bad day? :(

Cheer up bucko, you can play with me sometime and that'll make you feel better about your game.

Seriously though man, whenever we play in Syracuse your game always looks very consistent, and you have really long strong strings. Everything that you can normally do like spinning/ducking and junk looks like it just kinda clicks. I feel ya on the certain component mental block kinda shit though, double dexes are a bitch and a half. I guess just practice... or kill everyone who can do double dexes and knows about them, that way you can pretend that such an element never existed. :) :P  :?

...What?

Haven't really posted in a few days but that's more or less because I'm in secluded training . . . like a monk. Needless to say it's been going well for me. I've needed this time alone. Not sure if things are getting much better but I'm at least completing goals and doing some drilling. I'm not going to list anything just yet but next week when my solo sessions come to a close I'll make a SMALL :? list of the things I've been hitting. It'll hopefully be impressive.

It's balls hot out today. Like 98. So I'm going to play, but not until the sun goes down. So that means until then, I'm off to a sushi place near me and I'm going to sit in a little inflatable pool. Watch Hot Fuzz. Watch some Australian Western movie. Go to a blockparty near downtown Syracuse. And THEN the bag will be brought out for some shred. I've got plans for tonight. I hope I perform well. It'll be epic if I can. I might post about it if everything turns out alright.

yay for solo sessions :?:

hey just thought I'd post again on some things. I got poison ivy on my eye the other night and that sucked. And then the next day I picked up some sort of virus. So I'm all sort of messed up. Poison ivy on my hand, eye, and groinal area (yep. . . ). I've been on this crazy medication for the past couple days and it's kinda screwing up my endurance and sensitivity to sunlight. Odd. I'll be playing for 20 minutes or so and then a little sun beam will fall on me and I'll feel like someone's holding a magnifying glass over me. So it's pretty uncomfortable. But the dosage is supposed to go down starting tomorrow so we'll see. And the ivy is going down on my hand and eye so that's good.

I had a crazy long session yesterday because I was feeling real crappy and was playing just as bad, but I didn't want to stop playing since I hadn't played for a while. I think I played for like 3 hours and 20 minutes or some crazy stuff like that. I lost track of time while drilling and it was like 7:30pm by the time I looked at my phone. Some highlights of yesterday was hitting far symposium reverse whirl bsos a couple times, far reverse whirl bsos a couple times, reverse tomahawk bs, and footing reverse whirlwind again. I've hit it before but I came close to doing it again. . . Lots of symposium stuff. The symp mirage > ss symp mirage rpt drill was hit pretty easily. Also I ducked my flip pixie yesterday. Pretty stoked about that.

Today was a little better. Not quite as long. About 2 hours at the skatepark. When Ben's not playing I really get hated on quite a bit there. I'm pretty sure I'm going to stop going there from now on if I'm going to be alone. It's a real killjoy to be made fun of in the middle of a session when you've got motivation and adrenaline pushing your shred on. Meh. I've got a few other nice places to play. Anyway, some fun things were hit. Nice neat strings done real easily and I felt more "aware" than yesterday.

I had string where I hit gyro mirage at least three times on both sides. Felt good. Especially when I pixied out of it both sides too.
Lots of stepping out of odd tricks like dyno and torque and um. Osis.
Ducking butter > ducking butter > diving butter > ducking pdx mirage > paradon > dyno > pdx whirl. Inspired by Rea.
Now THIS is huge. DOD bsos and paradon bsos. and I footed flip barfly. "The Summer of Double Dexes" is not being taken lightly.
Tapping drifter.
osis > drifter > infinity rpt x6 and ended in a few osis > pdx drifters
ducking dyno > hand catch. I know I could make this a bit smoother and could string it to a run pretty easily. I just didn't really pursue it.

anyway things are going well. Hopefully I can get off this medication and get rid of this virus so I can play more consistently again. :P

peace.

how did you get the ivy on your 'area'???

wow.

sorry i couldnt be at the skate park for you, that kinda sucks that peeps are hatin' on ya.

i felt like i wanted to shred forever too but i knew i had to quit at some point. i hate overdoing it.

props on the ducking stuff, tiz the shit.

stupping out of torque looks really professional. how are the torques lately? still off?

tapping drifter is really flowy. i bet if i tried really hard i could hit it but i just cant do it because of my hip flexor. it hates me.

peace out

Well to take what a co-worker of mine said to me the other week: "Poison Ivy likes cemeteries for some reason." Well anyway, we were taking our third extensive between breaks break and I hate sitting on the golf cart for prolonged periods so I like to lay out on the grass. Well we were parked along side a road where there was a whole patch of the stuff. Some of the poison oil stuff must've gotten onto the inside of my pant leg (I was wearing shorts) . Not a clue, to be honest. It's quite tricky. And the ugly patch of boils on my hand started to itch more or less right away. I was leaning right into the ivy. It was a good time.

Yeah torques are going okay I suppose. I wanted to skool it hard today so I could bring something different to the wednesday session so I would toss the bag, torque, hand catch. Repeated. I must've hit about 15 of them and of those 15 I'd say I hit maybe 10. So that's fine I suppose. I usually do things a little more consistent when they're done mid-run. So we'll see. The flipside is coming along. I'm getting much more comfortbale with the motion, with what little actually gave me some trouble. But the thing that's getting in my way is the fact that the miraging leg keeps coming back down on the bag after the dex and slapping the bag down before it can be caught by the osis. So yeah. I'll have to either get a pointer on that or just buckle down and find out what's making my leg do that. That had never happened before on my strongside when I hit torque. It's strange. That's flipside for ya, though. Ooooh well.

Well I'm off to bed. Maybe I'll get no sleep and be messed up on medication so I can't go to work again. HURRAY FOR NOT TAKING THE LAST WEEK OF WORK SERIOUSLY!

um. Alright I'm almost positive it was 'the' but someone needs to catch me and my new trick: DOLOMITE! 8O yeah so i guess the trick to symp double dexing is just setting the thing (mid) torso height and just getting some air into it. It reminds me of the dolomite gray chadwick hit in the sick three comp for this/last month. I think it was dolomite. Could've been superfly. Either way it was set as high as his. His was better though because it was actually clean. :?

so anyway I had a real short session today. Got me a nice lasagne dinner and some sweet tea and then headed out to the Syracuse Inner Harbor, thinking there would be a tent or something shielded from the rain. Nope. No dice. It was all soaked. So I bucked up and rain shredded. Sucked. I felt bad for my bag. Thankfully I didn't drop all that much 8) .

 more stepping out of torque
 tap > atom > tapdown > symple dyno.
 these people were fishing and acting a fool by me and spotted me so a few came over and started the 20 questions. Then this little kid asked me how many tricks I could do "when it goes over your head like that" so I was like "yeah I can do a few things pretty well" so WITHOUT DROPPING I just busted out ducking and diving butters, ducking diving pickups and legovers, and a ducking pdx mirage and illusion. Bam. That felt great. I've been skooling my ducks a lot these last few days and doing that has kind of proven something to myself. So a pat on my back.

anyway I kinda gave up after the bag got too soaked and started getting frustrated on some reverse whirling tricks so I hit a couple DLOs and a couple ducks, couple attempts at vertigo, and then ended on torque > blizzard > pixie ss clip > spinning butter > hand catch (the first link being the highlight and the other being some style I wanted to see if I could lay down)

so this has been a medium sized post for a mini session. Whatever it was fun. No music. Ran out of batteries and bought the wrong pack for it. It takes 6 and I got 4. Pff. That's what ya get when you're all racing to get to the shred.

Well I wanted to play more tonight but decided to call it one, make some mate tea, and play some SUPER SMASH BROTHERS MELEEEEEEEEE. . . and maybe reading the first Harry Potter book. I haven't read any of them and now that it's over and I know how many I'll have to read I'm alright with starting now.

Chris Dean, Mike Anello, Jeff Hastings, Doug Tank, Paul Agostinelli, and the crazy skills of Gray Chadwick. Fun time last night in Rochester, NY.

Doug and I got there a bit beforehand and, like the ending credits to Buckeroo Bonzai, met up with Mike and Jeff on our way to round up Gray. So we set up my stereo and went at it. Chris and Paul came a bit later.

I didn't get to play much with a few people, namely Chris and Gray and Paul, but I got to see some highlights from almost everyone. For the most part, though, it was a nice layed back circle with Mike, Doug, Jeff, and myself - hogging the sound from the stereo. I wasn't too sure who I'd be messing with if I turned the volume up as high as it could go but meh. It was resolved to turn it up when night came and fewer people were talking around.

Gray is the first person I've ever played with from California. Famed. He's an excellent footbag player. Incredible talent, but what surprised me more is the fact that for only a year and a half of playing he has a FEEL for the bag instead of just being able to bust huge stylie tricks. It actually looks like he's been playing for like 4 or 5 years. At least that's something I've noticed. There are people who can hit complex tricks and being relatively new at the game so their style isn't quite solid or inconsistent in between hitting 4's and 5's like the lunatics they are. Anyway he seemed like a good guy, probably a little put-off by Doug's "I'm looking for someone who plays footbag" phone call. .. and my just being loud and dumb. Hope he had a good time regardless.

So here's some stuff from my playing time (which was extensive):
THE BAD THINGS:
1)stepping was off. I wasn't using a lot of it as well. Oops.
2)ducking was low.
3)a little inconsistent with string length.
THE GOOD THINGS:
1)atomic was good. Midstring and pretty high except when I was trying reactor.
2)fairy was good. ferocious and fairy butter and ss were hit on command and at odd tiresome points of the night.
3)drifters were solid until much later.
4)double dexing skool has paid off and it's almost gotten good enough to do in front of people. This is on my flipside, you understand. My strongside is perfectly fine right now. I just need to remember to use it in runs more often.

*that's an abbreviated list I suppose. It was a full night. After people left Doug and I stayed on duty and played till um. Let's see it was about 11:30 or later by the time we got to the store I think.

Anyway last night gave me a lot of things to think about and manage and I'm going to get back at it later today whether Ben can do anything or not. I'm going to go to the Syracuse Inner Harbor Blockparty and hopefully confuzzle some drunk college grads and avoid any ponses who want to hack with me. I wouldn't be in the mood right now if someone went up to me and asked me if I wanted to play hacky sack with them. That's odd for me. Usually I don't care. I'm intense right now. If I were a Japanese cartoon character I'd probably be glowing and the background would be either exploding or zipping around me in neon colors giving everyone around me THE FITS AND SHAKES.

ah alright. Well there are things happening this weekend every day at the harbor so we can go there if you can. Yeah I saw your video if it's the one you posted in your blog and in the section. sorry if I didn't post about it. We see each other play enough that I think I can say things like "sick combo!!!!" and "WHAAAA!" in person.

so a great solo shred at the harbor anyway for me. I quite literally took everything I had said I didn't like about my playing last night and what I had forgotten to do and whatnot and stalled the shit out of the bag for about 2 hours. Most of my strings were either ridiculous short, ie messed up two or three contacts where I drop on far legover just before starting the real run, OR they were some of the longer stylier strings I'd say I've ever done. No joke. I was surprised I was working symposium into my runs the other day and I did a lot more of that today. Spins were excellent. I couldn't believe how much nicer my flip was feeling today. It just kept going and going.

trying to think of a common link I would've been doing today so as not to bore ye too much. Well I'd say the better links would've gone something like (and this is a dramatization and just something I could've hit and want to if I had a bag and shorts and if I wasn't in a dark room): ducking clip > ducking clip > diving clip > weaving clip > spinning osis > infinity > spinning pdx mirage > dimwalk > ripwalk > ripwalk > sidewalk > schmoe > magellan > pixie muted clip > drifter > osis > blur > dimwalk > merkon > hand catch . .. yeah. That sounds about right for the good solid runs I had. There was a good amount of time when I was throwing down strange combos of whirls and rev whirls and dynos and stuff as well.

anyway some stuff I came into the session thinking of was a few drills like schmoe > dimwalk rpt and pixie ss illusion back to back tap > eggplant rpt. All of these were hit and repeated and stuff. Most on the first try except the tap/eggplant link because I'm still a little iffy on atomic > atomic accuracy for some reason. That boggles my mind, to be honest. I have a pretty solid atomic set from a lot of places. Most miraging and illusioning dexes. Smear > legbeater wouldn't really be that big of a deal I don't think (hm. I should do that more often) The only other thing I'd say I'd have problem with is doing an atomic from a DLO or an eggbeater or something.

So that was my footblaglog for today. I hope you all enjoyed it. 8) I included a few things I can do so I'm sure this post will kind of clue you into some more stuff I do. I wasn't too stylish today. Just more I wanted to make sure I could still legtwist fast and get in lots of stepping. I was dumb and didn't drink anything before or during so my knees are really sore. I might take tomorrow off. I'll see how I'm feeling tomorrow. I'm hurting right now. I stretched a lot during and after though so who knows. This might just also be because I'm dead tired and kinda hungry.
