Worlds checklist

Post by Muffinman »

I feel a little silly that there are so many different threads for Worlds already, but I guess that it's very helpful. I noticed that lots of people including myself have asked about and wondered about what they should bring, and are worried about forgetting or leaving something behind. So I will run a general list and people can reply and I will update. I will start simple since I am at work and may not think of things at the exact moment. Please list even the smallest most common-sense things, because those are often what we forget.

TO FIGURE OUT
-place to stay (and payment thereof)
-transportation in Florida
-registration (before midnight, July 31), and signed waiver for every person who plans on entering the venue. (and make sure that you will be able to make a check-in time for registration)
-check-in @ hotel/terra verde/other
-carry on (no fluids, sharp objects, etc); check allowed dimensions, weights, amount of bags, etc
-

TRAVEL
-passport/other ID (driver's license, birth certificate, health card, etc) (and photocopies thereof for extra security)
-plane ticket and itinerary
-map(s) of the area we will be in with important locations marked
-backpack (for containing/carrying stuff around at and to venue)
-snacks/entertainment during flight (mp3 player/gameboy/book/etc) -- don't forget extra batteries!
-travel health insurance (for international players)
-important phon numbers (hotel/terra verde/roommates?/etc?)
-

FOOTBAG GEAR
-stuff to sell (if you're a stitcher or video producer, or whatever)
-footbag shoes
-footbag shirts
-shorts (lots)
-footbags!
-sweat towels
-headbands/hats/bandanas/hair elastics/etc
-stitching equipment (fabric, needles, floss, filler, templates, scissors, gather tool, lighter, marker, etc)
-music (don't forget your routine song! -- no offensive music @ Disney!)
-local club/event tshirt (for potential trading/showing off)
-chalk/tape for 4-square
-

CLOTHING
-non-footbag shoes (they will be stinky)
-tops (9+?)/bottoms (2+?)/underwear (9+?)/socks (14+?) (enough clothes to last a week (overestimate!), taking into consideration extreme sweatiness and stench.)
-shorts -- Florida will be hot!
-perhaps a warm shirt or jacket just in case the temperature drops (I've never been to Florida before...)
-bathing towel
-umbrella/rain jacket (it's been rainy lately)
-laundry detergent
-swimwear + towel, etc
-

HEALTH
-any medication you may be on
-painkillers/ibuprofen
-toothbrush/floss/toothpaste
-sunscreen -- Florida will be hot!
-lots of water (maybe a collapsable 4-litre jug!) -- Florida will be hot!
-contact lenses (and solution...and whatever else goes with that)/spare glasses
-deodourant
-comb/brush/shampoo/bodywash/shaving stuff/cologne
-kleenex/facial tissue
-nail clippers
-food/snacks
-q-tips
-tp
-foot spray/shoe spray
-

MISCELLANEOUS
-duct tape??? (because it's the handyman's best friend)
-skateboard (many people mentioned this for travel within Terra Verde)
-money (cash/traveller's cheques/credit card/etc) -- USA cash for buying hack goodies! (as well as for food and emergencies.)
-calling card (though I've been informed that Terra Verde houses have a free international land line...?)
-cell phone charger
-camcorder (w/tapes, batteries, charger, tripod, etc (maybe AV cables for playback on TV?))
-still camera (extra film, battery charger, etc)
-bug spray (I heard mosquitos are bad, given all the swamp?)
-music player ("jam box", charger, etc.)
-shred mats
-magic cards
-ear plugs (in case people snore)
-disc golf discs
-

Hey good idea, thx Eric!

You had a good amount of what we need to bring, Andrew (Eskimo Joe) sent me a pm with a few things I would need to bring. I don't think he would mind if I post it here so here's the stuff he told me to bring, most of it was already mentionned but there's a few more.
-Bathroom gear: toothbrush, comb, floss, shaving stuff, deoderant, calogne (for going out)
-clothes for 1 week I would bring, three pants, shorts, 8 pairs of socks, 8 underwear, 4 or 5 t shirts, 1 towel
-Identification: bring your health care card, passport drivers license
-footbag gear
-backpack
-carry on stuff: snacks, book, mp3 palyer
-money for food, plus extra money for an emergency (about 150 dollars)
-calling card
I'm going to start assembling all this now, so I wont be in a last minute hurry as I'm used to!

I'm gonna actually try and bring some food so I don't have to spend billions of dollars at the concession stands.

I would also bring some handkerchiefs with me. I've often a cold in summer (what is very unusual :P) and then it sucks if you don't have them.

Hope you'll enjoy worlds

the following is very important to canadians, and MUST NOT BE FORGOTTEN!!! it can go in either of these categories.

TRAVEL HEALTH INSURANCE

While in the united states our canadian health care coverage is null! Any and all medical visits will have to be payed out of your own pocket! Break your ankle while shredding and expect to pay out the ass to have it reset and casted while in the states, or sit through the pain untill you get back home, which ever you prefer. Not to mention you will be required to pay for the ambulance, paper work, prescription drugs, etc. should anything else go wrong.
Ensure you are covered befroe you go the the states by purchasing travel health insurance. Blue cross, among many others, offer affordable and reliable coverage.
It costs as little as $20, which is significantly less than the thousands of dollars you will end up paying should the worst happen.

BUY TRAVEL HEALTH INSURANCE!!!

Good stuff.

Well I'm mostly going to Worlds as a spectactor so I'll be bringing my camera along with me with extra memory cards. I know you said batteries already but if you have a cell phone dont forget your cellphone charger or any other chargers! They are always the last thing I remember to pack!

Also remember to figure out transportation and exactly how you will bring your money with you, and I'd also try not to forget the actual worlds registration itself.

On the food note, I assume there will be a nice grocery store somewhere around? Because buying a bulk bunch of (healthy) snacks just might be a good idea, for yourself, for anyone else who might be hungry, and so that you don't get raped by concession stands.

Great thread idea.

Another thought might be to bring a t-shirt of your local footbag club/tourney, and then trade it with somebody else who lives far away. Could be a fun souvenir.

This is something my parents always have me do and I think it's quite important:

Make a photocopy of ALL your important documents that you are bringing. Make two copies, leave one at home with your fam and bring a set with you and put it in some super safe place in your shit.

The things you should photocopy are your ID (passport, license etc), plane tickets/reservations and anything else important.

Make sure you bring enough socks and undies!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I would definitely bring more than the 8 pairs of socks that were mentioned. Probably twice that at least for myself (and I don't have stinky feet)...

Good stuff guys.
Keep it coming :)

I also recommend buying new shred socks before worlds. Few things are worse than having a hole develop in a sock during a routine. Get new socks a week before worlds and break em in. That'll guarantee you won't have sock issues during the week.

I'm going to mod my sport sandals slightly to give them a playable clipper. It will be just too hot to wear G6's all the time. And I have smelly feet.

DEFINITELY bring your own water bottle/jug. Otherwise you'll have to constantly buy water at Disney. $$$$$$

Great topic Erik. I was thinking of making a spreadsheet on my own.

 JAMBOX! I am bringing a docking station with speakers for my iPod that serves as a mini jambox. Remember, non-offensive music inside Disney facilities! Make a special worlds-shred playlist with pre-screened songs. Gotta remember teh charger for this badboy.

 SHRED MATS since I'm driving I'm bringing these in my trunk. May not be feasible to bring on a plane.

 LAUNDRY DETERGENT!!!!!
we plan on buying it while we are in orlando... just as a heads up to people staying at the disney hotel, a load to wash is $2 and a load to dry is $2 if you plan on washing your nasty footbag clothes.
