Players being BAPped at Euros (and other non WORLD's events)

Post by max »

As suggested by Ken, please use this topic to discuss the EC-BAP issues. The original thread (linked here) will stay in the journies to tounies forum to discuss the 2007 European Footbag Championship.

Here are the last two posts I saw on the subject:

Its strange to see so many non-BAP and recent BAP talk about BAP's practices and original intentions. I wonder how the original members of BAP feel about Euros inductions? I know that at CSS2 they were cool with a non-worlds induction, but part of that was because Kenny and Rippin were there to give the OK. Were there any BAP at Euros who were pre-2002 inductees?

As for whether Dave gets inducted at Worlds or not, I don't know what will happen. In the past, you HAD to play at a tournament to get inducted. Part of the reasoning was that it ensured that the player dealt with pressure well and had consistency. Some very good players who look very good on video failed to make BAP in past years for this very reason. This actually has happened at every worlds I have attended. If Dave makes it in without playing, that's a slap in the face to Ricky Moran, who was in almost the exact same position at 04 Worlds, and wasn't inducted (and that was the year when EVERYBODY got in, so the "play under pressure at worlds rule" was taken seriously).

Sorry to be so off-topic. This thread is a prime candidate for a topic-split. Mods?

the funny thing also is that this years euros were probably far more international (19 countries represented) than worlds will be + they will have had more players in total i guess (220+)

It surprises me that Olaf didn't make BAP. I suppose it is hard to tell from video, since I have never met any of these players, but from what I know (which is mostly Modified highlight posts  ), he is more skilled.

I think that North Americans should stop whining about the inductions, though I do agree that it is ridiculous that Dave isn't BAP. Then again Jason Crook never made BAP either..

I agree with Ken about the whole Ricky Moran thing.

EDIT:
PS Kyle Hewitt 4 BAP @ 2007 Worlds!

He didn't really compete and he had a lack of motivation I guess, otherwise he would have been playing a lot before Euros.

Many people also thought that Olav"Anaconda" should be inducted too,
but then the present bap members decided against it by saying that he
has to keep up/increase/consolidate his crazy level for another year .
Maby the same thing happened to Dave before, people loved his craziness
at last US open, but they wanted to see more before inducting him at
this years worlds. WHICH WILL SURELY HAPPEN, SO STOP WORRYING JIM !!!

But maby they didnt thought about that at all - in neither case, the fact that
David will be inducted a couple of weeks later than Sergey doesnt make
Sergey a better player, nor does it make everybody at Euros unfair or
malevolent .
I wrote this with out bearing in mind that Dave might not be able to play at Worlds due to that back injury of his . Please get well .

The reason why i quote my self ( bad style, i know ) is that i dont feel
too comfy about the way my post was chopped up .

my thoughts:

Sebastian did play a lot the year he was inducted into BAP at Worlds. I know, I was there. It was the year Yacine was really pushing to get him BAPed.

As far as I know, many players in BAP's past have been BAPed at non-worlds events, but then recently, i.e., within the past 3 years or so, the BAP decided to STOP inducting players at non-World's events. I think this is why the controversy exists. Im pretty sure this info is commonly known to players who've been playing for 5-8 years, which is why it was controversial that some were BAPed at Euros.

Props to those who were BAPed though :)

i think it's absolutely non of our business what BAP does and what BAP doesn't do. they can induct whoever they want whenever they want. I don't think there is any need for them to justify their decisions in a public forum.

on the other hand i think it's strange that obviously within BAP there is some communication problems otherwise we wouldn't have "seasoned" BAPers actively contributing to this discussion.

in any case: congrats to anyone who made BAP this year at euros and who will make BAP at worlds! .

SergeyKozlov wrote:Guys, BAP was founded when you was did't even know about footbag, by players you maybe will never see. So it's not your deal to talk to much about "whether there should be such a club". Let it to the players who are in BAP
Well I'm lucky enough to know some of those early dudes and from what I hear honza has been pretty in charge of the discussions of resent years, as sunil used to be back in the late 90s/02, and i'm sure rippin or kenny before that. So when Honza says:
Webslinger wrote:There were 10 active bap players at euros, which is more or at least the same amount of active bap players that usually meet at worlds to decide.
If any bap player who was not there feels offended by that I can explain it to him at wolrds and I am sure everyone will understand it after.
... i;m down with it...
anyway- i think any thread in which ken talks about his love and respect for bap is money 8)
