So I got my hands on a digital camera last weekend and decided to get a little shred footage. Ive just been getting back into the sport after a long and injury laden winter. The first half of the vid is from last weekend, the second half of the vid is from footage between 1 and 3 years old.

To the best of my knowledge there are are a handful of tricks that are "Erik Originales." I have certainly never seen them in person or in any of the plethora of vids Ive seen over the last 5 years.

Since I didnt start shredding until I was 20 I realized quickly that there was always going to be a large handful of people who could shred me into the ground. So I have tried to develop new and wacky tricks to progress the sport that way. For those truly twisted and sick individuals who want to see more of my inimitable wacktastic style, my previous video (also posted on this website) is available at

which showcases more tricks youve probably rarely if ever seen before.

I hope these videos serve as a reminder for all the people out there who arent vasek, penske, or clavens. You can push this sport by other means than just hitting 30 consecutive fearless. As admirable as those combos are, often I have seen every trick and link within those fearless combos. Lets try to keep footbag fresh. Every new video coming out should have at least one new trick or variation that hasnt been done before. There are still an infinite number of those tricks just waiting for someone to hit.

All constructive comments are welcome except those pertaining to my lack of skill as a video editor. I used Windows Movie Maker for goodness sake. Also I need to say that I do not mean to imply that any player is specific is not original. Just the opposite. Simply put, the more tricks that are available, the less likely footbag will become repetitive.

Very nice videos. Your style looks very smooth and relaxed and you have a good collection of moves, especially the ones ending with sole and outside stalls.

I especially liked the way you landed that water bottle flip to carpet stall.

Wow, styles for miles! Loved those inventive moves. And ducking flying butterfly kick into a spin was ill. Bringin' it back man, bringin' it back.

I like how your style has lots of hangtime and just a wee bit of shuffle. Every move is slow and controlled. Some moves I would be amazed that you were able to dex the bag moving so slow. I bet it looks really good to people who don't know about footbag.

Great stuff, way to push the envelope on the unusual shiz.

But those socks man, you gotta do something about those socks. Are you coming to worlds?

let me start by saying props for putting out a vid. After hosting and sponsoring a tournament I think its the coolest thing a footbager can do.

Now had there not been an intro rant I may have ended this with props for hitting some dragons and sole stalls. However I now feel like going on a small rant of my own.

This vid is FAR from pushing the sport. it is still nearly 20:1 of standard shred to "unusual" stuff. Which is no better than any video of vasek busking. and the "unusual" stuff seems to be limited to the random dragon or sole. As for your style being "inimatable" a vid just came out with tons of dragons. You are certainly not the only player throwing stuff besides clippers and toe stalls.

All I'm saying is that if your throwing legbeaters and blurs, you aren't being that origianal by throwing some unusal surfaces. I tried for a while to try to be inovative and create a new sport all together, but then realise I LIKE SHRED, and dexes and clippers and all the cliches that comes with it. And to create a truely new style one would have to basical give up all that stuff and create something truely original... which by the way is F*CKING HARD!

In sumation: cool vid, theres more out there like it. Way to be one of them!

Oh and just as an aside to Nate, if you're going to tell someone they're not being stylistically creative don't post videos of yourself doing something creative. I kind of agree with what you said but the way you said it just makes you look like your showboating.

Nate, it seems like you somehow missed the sarcasm in that sentence. I tried to lay it on pretty thick, too. So I will resummarize without the use of sarcasm. People who are not as good as Vasek and the other immortals can still advance the sport by creating new tricks. You dont have to be anywhere near as good as Vasek to be an innovator. You'll also notice that I left Moir's name out of my list as he is obviously one of the best contemporary innovators. But, someone who isnt as good as the immortal band of superheroes can still contribute to the sport by broadening the base of tricks that are known.
Again, people who create new tricks or links are pushing the sport, if for no other reason that one of the immortals will see the trick, like it, and incorporate into one of their 30 fearless combos. I agree that insane endless multi-dex combos are awesome but not everyone can do them.
Finally, I must say that your "rant" is pushing footbag in a negative, not positive direction. There are many ways to push footbag. Basically you seem to be saying that its better to always do nothing but endless multidex combos than to think creatively from time to time.
* Edit * I just noticed that those two videos you referred to are of you. I like the videos, very innovative. I just hope that the irony isnt lost on you. (Refer to the post just below your "rant" if the irony is lost on you.)

Iron Clad Ben, in regards to the socks, I feel that they showcase my "heart of the 80's" style quite well. You get more friction with more surface area too, so theyre less likely to slide down on you. (That is called an attempt at a sense of humor; many would do well to gain an understanding of this fundamental concept, AhemNateAhem

). But seriously the socks do look a little funny now that I watch the video again. So I will try to outdo myself in the next video. After all, if you watched both the vids, you have seen but 3/8 of my wackiness.

As for the pixie ducking drag to dimwalk, there is a body spin or something in there somewhere too.

Not to quibble, but I think flappers are kicks. He hit pixie ducking sole delay.

I agree that you're not pushing any huge envelopes. In fact, what I rather liked was the fact that the runs were varied. Dragons and soles are awesome, but no reason to ditch toes and clippers. Also having the flyers mixed in with the shred will forever point back to Eric Wulff, which is always good. Props.

So thanks for the vid; here's hoping there's more to come.
