Footbag related programs

Post by Blue_turnip »

I enjoy computer programming.

I also enjoy footbag.

I'm looking for a way to combine them both. I was considering doing a string generator a few months back, but I decided I wouldn't cos someone else was doing it.

Any ideas?

You should make your own string generator. I'm super busy and I have no idea when I'll be able to finish mine.

edit:

here's the thread with my bare bones string generator:

you gotta make a list of every footbag move in add catagories.

What programs do you use for programing?

Im a noob but I know how to make shooting games and rpgs and shit on visual basic and C++.

I know a bit of VB, but depending on what I do I usually use either Python or C++.

well it really shouldnt be that hard to mae a string generator then using those programs.

you just have to create a random number generator using a simple algebra equation, then replace the number's outcomes with footbag trick names, then set the math equation up according to an array you have to create. You can do this without using the array but I would take so long.

Then you create a desired amount of label boxes that put the tricks together, a command button that resets the label boxes after the string are done, and a command button that starts the equation up.

Modified/footbag.org has like the full list of all the footbag trick names in add catagories(i think). The only hard part of the genorator would be puting the tricks into add catagories in some coding but thanks to copy and paste that wouldnt take to long.

If I actually owned C++ or visual basic at home I would create this program in like one day, but since I only learned how to use this program in school I cant.

I don't know much about programming but it would be really REALLY cool to somehow have a "string generator" or even a move listing (where you can look up move components or whatever and find a list of related stuff) where the results include VIDEO! I guess the string generator would be pretty tough unless it was animated like Shred Session...

Just an idea.

you could easily use the hackrifice archive of video demonstrations to make some kind of demonsration action just in case someone doesnt know what the trick looks like or something.

It would be the shit. :)

I dont know about making a animated figure that will actually do the strings generated. Thats just super out of my league and would take too much time.
Unless somehow the person who created the shred session game gave me the coding and all the in depth details.

If no one creates this before I start school Im planning on making it a project in my programing class. :)

Does anyone know who created the shred session game?

You can create animated gifs using photoshop and imageready. Just have a frame or two for each component.

I know how to program in C++ pretty well and was brainstorming ideas for a good string generator. It would take a while and if I have some time I may get around to trying it. It would be best if the program interfaced with a web page, but I'm no good with web design.

I'm thinking about making the program allow the user to choose as many filter options as possible. Number of moves, minimum and maximum add level, number of dexes, toe or clipper moves, etc.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

That is a sick freaking idea. :D

Make like menu options and shit.

As for the animated gifs, how the hell would you animate it?
It sounds like a time killer. I think the best would be to ask the shred session dude for his unless someone knows how to create animations.

I was trying to plan my shred30 for worlds at lunch today. I got something like 60 at MFJ and my goal is to beat 100 at worlds. I don't have a big repetoire of moves but it was still pretty hard to plan one out on paper.

A shred30 planning tool would be cool. I'm trying to create one in MS excel atm. It's tough!

Things the shred30 planner would do:
 Recognize uniques in a string (w/all the uniques rules)
 Calculate score w/ and w/o xdex
 Allow input for what tricks you want to incorporate
 Suggest tricks each step of the way that would be uniques

Maybe those who have more experience with planning shred30s can offer some input as to what else it would be good to have on this.

I keep hearing people talking about making footbag programs...

Has anyone ever even tried making one? Or is anyone actually going to?

I think some one who's a halfway decent programmer, or knows one, should get them to make said program.

Or some nonsensical garbage as such.[/i]

I started making a move cataloguing program, but it has been on hold for a while because it is too time consuming just at the moment. Making the dynamically animated move version would be really tough for obvious reasons but would be a rewarding project, one I might try to get onto during the summer break.

Alright!

I just finished my shred 30 calculator spreadsheet. Basically you input your moves into the spreadsheet and it calculates your score without and with XDEX It uses a pivot table to help you calculate uniques, but at this point uniques are pretty much honor system. Also, it doesn't recognize bad links such as something like torque > dimwalk which would be impossible.

http://fizzied.phasing.org/SHRED30GENv02.xls

I know that other people may have created these in the past, but I thought a spreadsheet would be easiest to use for:
1) Planning your shred 30 for competition. You can save the file as various names to save different shred 30s
2) Calculating a shred 30 from a video after competition. Save a different version of the file for each player.

It should have all the reasonable tricks that someone would hit in a shred30. It's not going to have stuff like the rooted pixie tricks or other obscure stuff like frigidosis-pixie spinning double down. However, the trick list is fairly easy to manage so you can add your own in there if I forgot anything. So don't PM me complaining that swirlwind or slaying chainsaw massacre aren't in there. If it's not picking up a trick, go to the trick list tab, ctrl+F search for it and if it's not there add it in.

This is an early version of the file, representing about 5 man hours of work. Please give me any feedback you may have and I'll do the best I can to improve it. I'm not a programmer, just a person who knows my way around Excel pretty well.

Anyway, it's filled out with an example shred30 that Randizz wrote from K-Crow that is exactly 200 points with or without XDEX.

Enjoy.
