Running/Jogging?
Do any of you guys go for a run or jog just to keep in shape? Or do you think having a good session is enough to keep you fit?
I'm recently coming back into the sport, but apparantly I've let myself go. I can't do one string without losing my breathe entirely. I plan on going for a daily run as well as kicking as long as I can before I'm dead for the day.

With knowledge like that you might as well add Dr. to your name.
On a real note, I ran a bit in the spring and this summer, but this was ended by an injury, but I can tell you a few things.
First, I did see myself losing weight. I was the skinniest I have been in a long time in middle june, and I lost 5 pounds in two months (no change in diet). So that was a positive.
However, I didn't notice a huge jump in my endurance. Maybe slightly, but i wasn't going for 20 more contacts each line. My reason for dropping as always been about placement, not breathing heavy (well, most of the time).
Anyway, if your out of shape it will help you, but once you get in shape playing hack might be just as good. BUT, i think it is important to do other things besides shred so running is a nice addition to your cross training.
But yea, wear good shoes.

Sat March 16 I wrote:Back to jogging,
Yesterday was the first time in 2 years that I have run. Last year I was primarilly cycling to stay active ( not neccissarily to be in shape). I didn't really lose any weight. Then again I wasn't watching my intake of food either.
Friday at the park, it was hard to know whether to push myself farther or just safely do as much as I could. I jogged half a mile nonstop then another half walking in short intervals when my lungs felt like collapsing. It's funny how much more perceptive you are of your body while running. All the fat bouncing around, every bead of sweat running down your head, and feet aching from a different pair of shoes. All this while arguing with yourself:
-this shit hurts!
-keep going
-what the fuck are we running from? no one is chasing us!
-one more block
-my feet hurt!
-just keep running
-hard to breathe out here
-push!
-we can always put this off later
-no. Now
-It's ok, were not obese yet
-would you please shut the fuck up?
-why not wait until a new pair of shoes and the weather gets better?
-cuz this gut prevented me from lacing up the shoes currently on
-so?
-I haven't seen my abs since the mid 90's
-they're still there, just insulated from the cold
-I look like I'm pregnant!
-if it's a boy I'll name him, !Zeke
-you know, this isn't helping...
Mon April 16 I wrote:The past 2 weeks I've just jogged around the neighborhood around LaRAZA. It's about a mile per lap. The best I could manage was running about half a mile and walking a bit to catch my breath then run again to finish off the mile. I do this for up to 2 miles. I'm completely exhausted at the end.
I got a new pair of Nike Assails in the mail today and jogged at the park near the office which is about 3/4 of a mile around. To my surprise I finished the first lap feeling strong and continued to try another 1/2 lap before I need to catch my breath. Another 1/2 lap goes by and I've still go my breath and a good rhythm going. Next thing I know I've done 2 laps non stop, about a mile and a half! End of the lap comes and goes and I'm still feeling strong so I go for a third. The whole time my mind was focused and not waging civil war. I finish the third lap about as easily as I had done the previous two. I started walking back to the office. About a block into it I decided to jog the rest of the way to end up running a total of just under 3 miles this morning!
I get to work feeling a little tired but not completely spent. Was it the new shoes? The change in scenery? A complete miscalculation? I don't know. but that's easily the best run I've ever had.
I've been trying to jog every Monday, Wednesday and Friday since the weather warmed up to lose weight and get in better shape. For the most part I've stuck to my schedule. If I were as disciplined with my diet, my results would be far better I think. At five feet and four inches tall I was a little over 160lbs before running and I'm currently 148lbs. My stomach is slimmer (still no sign of my abs yet but I know they're in there somewhere) and my stamina has dramatically improved. I started out at struggling to jog 1/2 a mile to doing 3 1/2 miles and still feeling strong at the end of the run.Mon June 18 I wrote:Ran 3.5 miles again today. Drank plenty of water before I left the house but it was really hot today. I had to stop at the water fountain in the park at every lap.
I used to hate just the idea of jogging but now I'm very thankful that I do run and I feel like I'm in better shape now than I was in my teens or 20's although not as skinny. I cycle often too and will probably be adding sprint and plyometric training to help me out for footbag net.
Oh, and wear good shoes.

yea i think my best mile is 6:48 or something like that
5:25 really is insane.
i ran 8 miles yesterday. to get back in shape for fall crew and to increase my endurance for footbag.
ended up kind of hurting myself (too long of a run)
i have a good 4 miles route planned out that i want to do at lest 5 times a week for a while.
i usually stick to my plans in terms of excercise.i enjoy it.
