yeah, so, seeing footbag in real life is one heck of alot more thrilling than watching a six inch person shred on my PC monitor. what the heck am I going to do when my brain experiences world champs ???

anyway I competed in intermidiate sick 2 add, sick one, sick three, and last man standing.

sick 2 add: blindfolded clipper stall

sick one: pixie ducking clipper, blender

sick three: dimwalk>whirl>far osis

Greg Nelson said that I did not get first place, but the stuff I hit in competition was worth an honorable mention and he presented me with a footbag. I was grateful.

Man you are really coming back into footbag at full force.

Way to go. Enjoyed your sick 3. I think I might make a video for that randumb online contest too.

Any tips on getting the lady into footbag? It's been a year and a half now and she still thinks it's just silly. You're lucky to get your wife into it.

See you at worlds.

i second that man.

i gave my girlfriend a bag to have incase she ever got the urge to try because i didnt want to pressure her. but as far as i know she hasnt touched it. i tried 1 on 1 sessions but she was getting really frustrated.

I think the case is, she just wants to be where I am, and do what I do. I guess ask them if you could buy them some lavers, and give them one lesson on toe stalls. and once they have toe, show them where they can go from toe to other stuff.... intrigue them, appeal to thier personality.

and, yeah, see you at worlds! sorry ben.

Trying to get Your Girl to Shred...

Post by Luchi1135 »

For IronCladBen, BenRea, and all the other guys out there, I wish you the best at trying to get your girlies to kick with you...

When Paul and I were first dating, I remember watching him kick around a little bit, and I kinda thought it was...different, but kinda cool, too (I mean, it did seem rather hard, after all--and I'd never seen anything like that before!). I already thought a lot of him, and I wanted to be involved in the stuff that he liked to do (as he has said), so I think that's what sparked my interest :D.

I'm not very athletic, and personally, I think it's a lot more intimidating for girls to attempt footbag...I wasn't really sure that I would be able to footbag, or even if I want to--it did seem kind of silly...but Paul was nice enough to let me know that it's pretty easy to do toe stalls and took a LOT of time to show me how to do it properly--yes, I got frustrated, too, but that's where a lot of patience and commitment comes in on both the guy and the girl's part :D (it was also nice for Paul to show me vids of Carol W., and other Shreditas--I didn't feel so singled out, then :D)

So guys, I would just say that if you would like your girls to footbag with you, don't be afraid to show them how--we cerrrtainly aren't going to try to learn it on our own...I mean, at the most it just seems like a fancier version of "hackysack" until we get to know the sport personally... (I thought the footbag was cute, too ) And remember, your ladies aren't going to want you to eat, breathe, and sleep footbag when they don't understand it ...it gets kinda boring if someone who's not that interested in it has to sit there and watch something that they don't understand for 5 hours . So please step it down to novice level and take some time to explain it to 'em--if they seem interested! If they don't seem too interested in actually doing the sport, there's other ways to make them appreciate the sport...

I'm not anywhere near as good as my husband, and it gets frustrating for me to keep doing JUST toe stalls, when he's doing all that crazy stuff that I still can't name! But he keeps me interested with LOTS of support (big deal!), and keeping me involved in other ways... we used to stitch footbags while watching movies or talking... and now I film his sessions (since I love taking photos and filming, anyway!).

Just as with any relationship, it takes time and patience, and trying to find some sort of comfort zone for your girl to fit into your sports' life ;) ... it'll take some compromising at first, but it'll pay off! Just remember the following rules:
Get down on her level (don't OD her on footbag)
Give her lots of support and compliments when she does well (make her feel like she's special and that you don't mind taking out time for her)
Find some other footbag activity that you can do together (stitching, filming, etc.), especially if she doesn't seem too interested in actually kicking it with you.

Sadly, some girls will never want to footbag with you, or give up over time... if this happens, just remember, she likes doing things that you don't like doing either--so compromise, and give each other space when needed...
 After all, you won't feel guilty shredding with the guys if she's out shopping with the girls, right?
