There is a thread, somewhere in "Kicking circle" I believe, which says "Chat, Now". In there, post when you are in and ask someone to come. If you log in, and scroll to the bottom and see someone in particular you want to speak to, about whatever issue, send them a PM requesting they come in. However, I wouldn't ask anyone just to come in, but if for example someone lives in your area and you would like to schedule something, PM them.

Because not everyone logs onto modified to chat try pming people you see who are logged on at the same time as you... or find a chat room if you're really that antsy about talking with people 8)

Yesterday I saw that two of my favorite shredders were in the footbag chat so I popped in and said hello and we had a nice chat.

Usually whenever I'm on and I see other people in the chat I go in. But I haven't been on in awhile since I haven't really seen anyone in.

How about logging onto chat as soon as you visit the site if you want to talk to other people. Make a post in the "chat, now" thread and people will join you ;)

Once mosher, holly, toolan, benrea, janis, and I were in chat all at once. That was exciting. Kind of.

Janis was all like "I just hit TATW for the first time" and we were all like "hell yeah!"

We should really consider getting a new chat client.

Whats wrong with the current one? Will having a new one make people go in there somehow?

I agree. There are a few minor flaws like lag and stuff, but just because there's a new one, people won't be rushing to go chat.

yea, what about good old IRC?
the browser chat suxx, IRC has many advantages.
There was a long time ago a footbag chan in the quakenet
but there were usually not more than 5 people.
So lets open a modified.in chan. Which net? :)

I'm in, I hang around in Quakenet and IRCNet, but can join other networks also, just name one. What's the biggest North American network?

There are two major disadvantages to IRC. The first is that one cannot see who is in the chat room without actually connecting. The second is that there is no authentication with the modified database so people can choose whatever usernames they want (which is pretty annoying). If you can fix these two problems for me (write a script, bot, etc.), I'd be more than happy to replace the default chat client with a web IRC client for those without a native IRC client.

This one would be pretty easy to do with an IRC bot, but..

Even if you authenticate with the database people will still be able to choose which ever nick they want, unless you have your own irc server connected with the modified database. A web-based irc client which would force you to start with the modified username shouldn't be too hard though.

Can a channel moderator have a "whitelist" of people to let in the room? Users could be added to that once they authenticated with the modified bot and removed when they leave.
