Internet legal age limit?

I'm thinking that pornography is getting out of hand on the net. Pop up's EVERYWHERE. In your email, on websites that have nothing to do with porn, and many other places. Do you think the government might put a legal age on 'internet', like 18 years old for example? Just a thought...

I can see why someone might consider it, although the idea never crossed my mind even though I used to have this one account that recieved up to 70 spams a day.

But no, I think there'd be too large a fuss about it for any that sort of measure comes in.

Hmm... imagine if they had an internet for children, run by children or banned overaged people from using the internet... that would be odd.

Its a noble idea, but I dont think that any goverment in the world will do something like that. How would you implement it? How would you enforce it? Theres many other logistical problems...

Also many minors need the internet for resources other than porno, like school research, how to play the game of hacky sack, etc.

I think its rather the parents of minors that need to monitor the internet usage of their children. Goverment should concern themselves with more important issues, like world peace, world hunger, the AIDS epidemic, etc.

They should make stricter rules for the porn sites and tell them they can't have as many pop ups and what not. Why let one group of people ruin it for the rest.

How do you make rules for websites? Thats the beauty of the internet, there is no governing body, as jon said.
If, for example, the US gov decided that adult sites aren't allowed to use popups, how will they enforce this? What if the site under question is hosted in Germany, then the US gov wont have the jurisdiction to enforce such law. This just isnt viable, except if all countries have the same Internet law, which just isnt going to happen...

More responsible internet usage could resolve all your problems.
-Dont visit porn sites.
-Dont give your email to sites/persons you dont trust, or create a dummy acount for this purpose.
-Use the filters that most email clients provide to filter out spam.
-Use Opera web browser instead of IE. It allows you to refuse popups, or to only accept requested popups. Opera gives you the best browsing expierience by far, IMHO.

There is a lot of content-blocking software that you can get that filters out pornography on the internet. Blocks popups and restricts children from accessing adult websites.

Who would want to pay money for something that will take away from teaching them about the birds and the bees. Now the parents have to explain all that sex without pictures and videos, or they could try, but that's not cool.

That's funny! But the age limitation thing is kind of a crappy idea. Besides, I don't think it could be imposed really. How would you be able to verify it?

Why do kids kids under 13 need to use a computer at all? All the jobs are going to India anyway.

No practical way to implement this. Maybe parents with kids under 18 should be parents instead of looking for legislation to define the moral code of their kids.

yeah. Parents need to act more like parents in this day and age. Kids need to be smacked once or twice too... this child abuse thing has been taken out of hand. Alot of things now are out of hand when it involves children and how they are brought up.
