2007 Worlds After Party

Post by LEGOMAN »

I think there should be a topic where people can discuss what a shitty of a attemp of a party that was.

I don't know if people know this but alot of footbag players are under 21 and couldn't get into the bars where the after party was "at".

Sorry if this topic makes anyone mad (like the people who setup worlds) but I guess this happens at every worlds.

Yeah, here 21 is the age, when people usually slowly start to think about stopping to party so much

I don't mean party like get piss drunk and smoke weed I mean have some food laid out and have some non alcoholic drinks and just hang out and have a few non footbag related games there. If people want to get get drunk they can get they're friends together and go to a bar.

The only thing that made me mad about this is that the fucking party was setup at a place where the age limit is 21 at where the fun is it. I won the fucking intermedate events and wasn't able to go to the "after party" that was never really setup due to my age. There is something very wrong with this.

Next year at Worlds I hope they don't setup the event at a bar or something. I won't have to worry about it there due to me being of age to drink but I don't want this to happen to the underage footbag players.

EDIT: Btw Worlds for me was a 10/10 and it was one of the best weeks of my life. EVerything went great except for this. I just want to make sure this mistake isnt made again.

you probably should have known it was 21 and up, and just gone to terra verde or the host hotel. i remember hearing tons of announcements that those bars were 21& up.

plus, the drinks were 5$ a pop there. that should have told you the parties werent there, or atleast not for long.

Yeah it kinda sucked.

We ended up going back to Steve Goldberg's room and shredding with the Stanford crew in their modified hotel room (they moved all the beds to make a shred room)

The after party at Moshers house was lots of fun though. Mosher and Jorden took turns at entertaining the crowd while Matt Cross played guitar.

The players party should have reservations for the expected amount of people.

I went and then went back to Terre Verde and missed my ride to the airport.

It was a fun worlds.

Post World Party at Pleasure Island

Post by LEGOMAN »

Am very disappointed :? at the venue for the post world competition at Pleasure Island. Quite a few of the competitors were not of age and were not included!!! They were just as much a part of the competition as anyone else. They spent their hard earned dollars and saved for months to make it to Orlando. It sure wasn't cheap to travel west to east coast. I was very disappointed and hope that the powers in charge will think of the up and coming champions because without them the sport will just shrivel up and fade away.

i'm 100.1% positive it was announced that pleasure island was all ages. sucks to hear about that kyle.
for future reference, don't go to any players parties set up by the event coordinators; go to players parties set up by the players. Official parties are almost always a clusterfuck of miscommunication and never very fun, especially at disneyWorlds where it's dead last on everyone's priority list (as I imagine hosting an event at disney would be hell enough without having to worry about the players). better luck next time.

You're right Kyle. It's must've sucked...
I can promise you, if you make it to Worlds in Prague next year, you will be able to get to each and every party. If not you, you can come to me anytime and kick me in the balls :D

i´ve been to only 3 worlds so far, but i cannot complain about the official parties at all. also i´ve never heard of someone to get thrown out of a place for not being of legal age. however, it should be taken into consideration by organizers that some participants may not be old enough to get into a bar.

a bar is just not the right place for a afterparty. it must not be exclusive footbag-only but the spot should definately be under organizers (footbaggers) control. if theres a problem like the mentioned it should be possible for the event-crew to clear that up.

The after party definately sucked.
It was clearly stated on the map that it was all ages.
When we showed up, they were not letting anyone under 21 in.
Plus the thing was so loosely organized that we were supposed to find
each other in a maze of thousands of people and hundreds of places.
The partying at Terra Verde was consistent all week, though, including
the final night...there was still kicking going strong at around 5am when I left for the airport.

It was announced several times that the event was ALL ages. They repeated that several times. Steve would have had a fit if he thought it was otherwise. Unfortunately when we all arrived at Pleasure Island we wandered through the restaurants and shops to find a cop keeping 20 and younger out of the bar area where the player's party was. Ken said to the cop that he just saw kids going in, and the cop said that they were with their parents. After a while of trying to figure out how to get in, the cop said that if someone who was 25 (or 21, I don't remember) or older vouched for everyone, everyone could go in. If anyone strayed they would be escorted out. He also said that they didn't serve food in the bar area and they wouldn't even serve underage people sodas. Ken was going to vouch for the 10 or so underage people in our group, but I called Steve and he said we could get in if we went in a different way. If I hadn't known to call Steve, we wouldn't have known there was another way to get to the place. If everyone in a group was under 21, there would be no way for them to know that they could get in at all. Steve said that there were already some underage people in the restaurant/pub that the player's party was scheduled to be in. We walked around the other way but saw like 30 footbag people walking the other direction on our way to the pub. They said it sucked, no one was there, and that the food cost like $10 which was more than a lot of people wanted to spend. We all decided to go back to Terra Verde, and I called Steve to let him know that people weren't coming. He said that people should have gotten food somewhere else then come in to play footbag in the area in the pub that they reserved. Someone said that Kyle got kicked out for playing footbag. This was poor planning and/or poor communication.
