Funny thing about weed, is that is it definitely the drug I miss most. Probably because I don't associate it with all the bad times/experiences I've had on other stuff (Namely drank and yayo), and instead associate it with sitting around my friends TV playing Madden and talking shit and enjoying cigarette's that much more and calling up girls and trying to game and sounding slow and retarded. I don't know. Only reason I haven't smoked weed is because I know it'd start a "Wow now I have drymouth and a fifth of JD sure would cure that" and then I'd be all drunk and it'd be "Man I'm fucking exghausted and hungry and my heads starting to hurt and a line sure would fix that" and pretty soon I'd be blacked out in the crack house.
There are over 900 chemicals in Marijuana (Once flame is put to green) that scientists have no knowledge on the effect on the brain/body. Definitely some scary shit.

Yeah that's pretty true. Although I wonder, if someone is from outside of the country and gets caught blazing in the U.S., is it a bigger deal? And also, though the penalty may not even be that bad, if you're at worlds and the cops are detaining you/preventing you from playing, I'd imagine it would make for one unhappy footbag player.BainbridgeShred wrote:Oh, and not to be rude, but if you're afraid to smoke weed in the United States, you're a pussy. I don't smoke/drink personally due to various reasons but have no problem whatsoever with those who do. Honestly, it is harder (despite marked protests issuing forth from those who do smoke) to do anything requiring coordination whilst intoxicated on most any psychoactive chemical than it is without. So if "insert a name" can perform at a top level while stoned/drunk/tripping or whatever, my hat is off to them. If someone is happy and is not having a plethora of problems resultant from their doing whatever it is they do, I can't see why anyone cares or loses respect for them for doing something they enjoy without really harming anyone. I, on occasion, play ten hours of video games on my day off, which is in no way healthy and is absolutely offsetting to my worldly perspective for the day or so following; it is an external stimuli resulting in escape from daily concerns that provides a quick fix for a neurological chemical release resulting in a feeling of accomplishment rather than and internally applied drug that does the same thing. Anyway, I've gotta eat or my wife is going to kick my butt.
Today is what you make it. So, like, don't screw up the recipe. ^^

I love it how QuantumBalance actually made this thread just to point out that the laws on illegal drugs in Florida are quite harsh and the thread took off like a friggin Boing 747..
I don't quite understand why the leaders of the sport (any sport) have to be drug free (i guess illegal drug free). Drug free doesn't really mean a damn thing. Look at all these sports that involve drugs in one way or another e.g. Tour de France.. the chance of just one person in that sport being drug free is slim to none, so i guess they dont have leaders?
IMO the thing that makes somebody a leader is dedication to the sport and that is all.. nothing more nothing less.
I read through this thread thinking "wow thats some narrow minded stuff".
One thing is for sure though.. there are sooooo many things that can be veeeery addictive e.g. caffeine, sugar, religion, sports, hah yes even footbag ..I have heard many times that people call their biggest hobby their own drug. Definitions of a word are always a difference of opinion I guess.
Many people won't agree with this and thats okay because tolleranz is to me one of the biggest virtues that one should aquire. If you don't like the fact that somebody at a party or even at a footbag shred is doing something you don't like and you can't tollerate it than leave.. if you get upset and start giving people shit for it than your really just a pain in the ass and LAME!

ps:had to quit after 6 years of consecutive smoking because my dedication to gettin high all day was bigger than anything I have ever been dedicated to

Even if you vaporize you are still 40% to 300% more likely to suffer from a mental illness than if you don't use drugs.ObArA'BaRs wrote:Not if you vaporize it with a volcano.BainbridgeShred wrote: There are over 900 chemicals in Marijuana (Once flame is put to green) that scientists have no knowledge on the effect on the brain/body. The comparisons in this topic are ridiculous by the way. Being addicted to footbag, addicted to sugar, addicted to caffeine, even addicted to religion (and I hope you all know how much I hate religion) has nothing like the negative physical effect on your life as being addicted to illicit drugs. Those things are incomparable. I wanted to finish off with this quote from one of my favourite books. Can you imagine the same thing being written about any of those other substances (caffeine, sugar, footbag etc.)?

Author's Note
This has been a novel about some people who were punished entirely too much for what they did. They wanted to have a good time, but they were like children playing in the street; They could see one after another of them being killed - run over, maimed, destroyed - but they continued to play anyhow. We really all were very happy for a while, sitting around not toiling but just bullshitting and playing, but it was for such a terribly brief time, and then the punishment was beyond belief: even when we could see it, we could not believe it. For example , while I was writing this I learned that the person whom the character Jerry Fabin is based killed himself. My friend on whom I based the character Ernie Luckman died before I began the novel. For a while I myself was one of these children playing in the street; I was, like the rest of them, trying to play instead of being grown up, and I was punished. I am on the list below, which is a list of those to whom this novel is dedicated, and what became of each.
Drug misuse is not a disease, it is a decision, like the decision to step out in front of a moving car. You would call that not a disease but an error of judgement. When a bunch of people begin to do it, it is a social error, a life-style. In this particular life-style the motto is "Be happy now because tomorrow you are dying," but the dying begins almost at once and the happiness is a memory. It is, then, only a speeding up, an intensifying, of the ordinary human existence. It is not different from your life-style, it is only faster. It all takes place in days or weeks or months instead of years. "Take the cash and let the credit go," as Villon said in 1460. But that is a mistake if the cash is a penny and the credit is a whole lifetime.
There is no moral in this novel; it is not bourgeois; it does not say they were wrong to play when they should have toiled; it just tells what the consequences were. In Greek drama they were beginning, as a society, to discover science, which means causal law. Here in this novel there is Nemesis: not fate, because any one of us could have chosen to stop playing in the street, but, as I narrate from the deepest part of my life and heart, a dreadful Nemesis for those who kept on playing. I myself, I am not a character in this novel; I am the novel. So, though, was our entire nation at this time. This novel is about more people than I knew personally. Some we all read about in the newspapers. It was, this sitting around with our buddies and bullshitting while making tape recordings, the bad decision of the decade, the sixties, both in and out of the establishment. And nature cracked down on us. We were forced to stop by things dreadful.
If there were any "sin," it was that these people wanted to keep on having a good time forever, and were punished for that, but, as I say, think of it only in a Greek or morally neutral way, as mere science, as deterministic impartial cause-and-effect. I loved them all. Here is the list, to whom I dedicate my love:
To Gaylene; deceased
To Ray; deceased
To Francy; permanent psychosis
To Kathy; permanent brain damage
To Jim; deceased
To Val; massive permanent brain damage
To Nancy; permanent psychosis
To Joanne; permanent brain damage
To Maren; deceased
To Nick; deceased
To Terry; deceased
To Dennis; deceased
To Phil; permanent pancreatic damage
To Sue; permanent vascular damage
To Jerri; permanent psychosis and vascular damage
... and so forth.
In Memoriam. These were comrades whom I had; there are no better. They remain in my mind, and the enemy will never be forgiven. The "enemy" was their mistake in playing. Let them all play again, in some other way, and let them be happy.

That was a great movie
.
But I will guarantee that weed had nothing to do with the negative outcomes.
The only brain damage I have is that I can't remember who I'm calling the second after I dial the number, or like I'll trail off in mid-sentence and forget what I'm talking about
. But I know ppl who have never toked a day in their lives that do the same thing.
And I haven't died yet, nor has anyone in the history of weedular good times
.
The most dangerous part about smoking weed is the deal not the act.

False logic. You can't compare you life to how it would be drug free, because you don't know, and you can't compare your damaged brain to different people, because there are far more factors that control cognitive abilities than smoking weed.
The fact is that I've sourced a number of very respectable studies that show very clearly that THC and smoking marijuana will noticeably damage your health. You can either choose your own unfounded and irrational dogmatic beliefs or you can choose to believe the science.
Open minded people accept evidence that is counter to their opinions. Close minded people continue with their beliefs despite the evidence.

In no way did I say it was good for you.
Breathing in the air in a city like Toronto or NY is just as bad, trust me.
Do you think your lungs were built to take the emmissions off of millions of vehicles all packed into a small area?
And I haven't been smoking weed since the day I was born, so I do know what my brain was like before I started. That was an ignorant comment.
And I can compare my brain to anyone just as much as they can compare theirs to mine. Plus all I said is that I know ppl who have the same problem as I do who don't toke.
Finally, I suffer from extreme arthritis and tendonitis, the weed numbs the pain. That is something I would take over a hightened short term memory any day

@Jeremy: the comparason I made was not on physical damage to your body but to addiction. And you talk about all that playing in the street metaphor... what drugs where you guys into? I would guess you were fairly open to all drugs. Not the samething like just smoking marijuana and only marijuana (and maybe some alcohol xD ) !Edit!: Woops mistook the author of the book for you, sry bout that... but i guess u know what i am getting at, i hope.
It is quite clear that getting high will damage your body. Like i stated i am a person that quit smoking marijuana for one or the other reason and I know for a fact that it will mess a person up for long or short term depending on how much you smoke a day, a week etc... Me myself have smoked marijuana everyday to every second day for 6 straight years. I smoked from 5 joints to 20 bowls on a good day (good hahaha).
I don't have any damage to my brain (as far as i know) but that is just me could be different for any other person. But quitting did change my life. I am starting to live a little more instead of just existing. I go out and do way more things and get things done than I did when I was smoking marijuana like a crack addict.
People smoking marijuana almost always think that they don't have any side effects or any problems with quitting. It is similar to asking an alcoholic if he is an alcoholic, they almost always deny it (I know this out of own experience with relatives and myself of course).
