Although meaningless, this is a website aimed at smearing my local federal politician. On the front page it has a poll about if he deserves some gold card or not. It would be great if everybody could take 1 minute out of their time to vote YES.
Also regardless of how you feel about politics, Duncan has helped out in the organisation of a number of footbag events in Tasmania, including the 2007 Australian Championships (earlier this year), and he\'s a great supporter of footbag (talks to me about it when he sees me playing fairly often).
The results of this poll are completely irrelevant, Duncan is one of the longest serving members in parliament, and has the safest seat of any politician in the country (my electorate being the most progressive in the country).

Somebody who gets welfare because they don\'t have a job. There are some different specific meanings; usually it refers to somebody who is happy living on welfare and doesn\'t actually want a job, (bludger is Australian slang for somebody who is lazy) but that website is referring to anybody on welfare.
A few years ago the current government changed the laws so that it was much harder to get welfare, and payments would be cut off for a range of breaches (which include not going to required meetings with the welfare office because you have a job interview). These changes to the laws are also the reason why I haven\'t been to university since I finished high school (because there wasn\'t a university near where I lived, and my parents earn too much money, so I was ineligible for student welfare until I turn 25 or earn enough money) - now that I have earned enough money, the government is happy to pay for me to go to university, just like they would if my parents earned less money.
Basically it\'s means tested, and the government will pay you to go to university if you personally earn more than $18,000 a year up until undertaking study, or your parents earn less than about $50,000 a year.
Unfortunately for me, the cost of paying for two adults to live away from home was more than my parents could afford on a single income with a home loan, so I had to take a break in my study to earn at least $18,000 in year.
