How did you 'Discover' footbag?

i was looking thru my fathers drawer and found a bean bag and asked him what is was he said it was a hacky sack and he showed me what to do with it a few days ago and now I am hooked

My Story -

I was living with a friend of mine, and her girlfriend's brother plays. I went and spent some time with their family one day, and I saw just practicing some of his tricks that he was working on at the time. I asked him what he was doing and he threw a hack at me, with out knowing what it was I grabbed it with my hand he started to laugh. After he told me what he was doing I started to just kick it a bit with him and from there on I have fallen into the footbag world. Its only been a few months, and not a lot can be shown for it, but just know that practice makes perfect.

I started to my sophomore year in high school, me and my friedns would kick in the gym during lunch. Then i went online and seen some freestlye videos, and was hooked from there, i then bought some Lavers, and the rest as they say was history...

First ran into hacky sack in highschool through a friend who brought it from the states. We used to (try to) kick on breaks, but nothing more than that for years since I was consumed in inline skating.
When I quit skating, I picked up a hacky sack, started kicking it, and researched the web for how to play the game correctly. At the time I didn't even think one can stall the ball, so I when I saw stuff on Footbag.org I was a little overwhelmed. Plus the ppl who demonstrate the tricks look like they came straight out of the 80's, so I thought the sport is dead.

This May I hung out at some Motorola sponsored event in Tel Aviv, and a group of ppl demonstrated footbag circles there. I joined, kicked a bit (including some bystanders in the ass) and had a good time. Kicking with people who can actually stall more or less on command made me believe I may be able to learn to do the same, so I started practicing.

It took another month for me to get in touch with these people again and we started meeting every weekend, recruited new people, opened a forum, and even though there's no guiltless player in Israel yet, we're off to a good start.

I knew this guy from some youth portal on the internet.
I started dating a girl from that page, he stole her from me.
We didn't talk for a while. Then we started chatting a little again.
He told me that he had started shredding and showed me www.footbagdenmark.dk
Over there i saw the video KampaPark - Where i saw the string:
Johnny Quest > Toe Barrage > Symp Whirl > Reverse Swirl > Pincher
It made me say: "I gotta learn that"
And the rest is history as they say.

Oh yeah and the guy is one of my best friends now. He doesn't shred anymore though.

i got in to footbag when i went to a canada day party with prices and one of the prices were a hacky sack

i got one and i started getting good till one day, i saw the hackrifice guys kicking at the forks and i thought they were not even human

so one of my friend told me bout this club and so i went on the site and i called andrew and he told me when they play and i was there asap.

Hacked from 8th grade till' 12th grade. Got up to 250 kicks (I thought I was so good, hehe

) and I could stall on every surface. "Hacky Sack" was too easy, so I finally looked online for hacky sack tricks and I found footbag.org and flipsider.com.

I watched the Lon Smith Special and fell in love instantly. I was always the best at my school, but when I came back from Christmas Break, nobody played with me because I was too good. Since then, I've never looked back.

I'm currently in 12th Grade and this is what pretty much the same as my experience.

So way back in the day I just started kicking a "Hacky" in like grade 6 and then I practiced kicking like crazy. When I graduated elementry school I had the school record of over 400 kicks. At the time I worked at the YMCA and one day I walked into the gym and saw two guys kicking. I walked up and introduced myself and told them I played "hacky sac". Then my mind was blown, I saw Johnny Suderman bust a short little run ending in a torque, my jaw almost hit the ground. From that point on I was hooked on footbag. Thanks Johnny.

it is really interesting to read everyone's stories! here's mine...

when i was a freshman in high school (2000) vince bradley moved in to the house across the street from mine. he had been playing footbag since the 80s and kept trying to convince me to play, especially because there is a drastic shortage of girls. i went to some tournaments like east coasts and funtastiks to see him play, and on occasion i would kick a bag with a friend at school. i thought it was cool to watch but didn't have an interest in playing. he tried to use the "you'll be surounded by hot, shirtless guys" approach but even that didn't get me interested.

then in 2004 he asked if i wanted to go up to world with him in montreal so i went because i am a canadaphile. i was super excited about visiting canada for the first time and planned on touring montreal but as soon as i saw my frist glimpse of worlds i totally forgot why i had come and spent 12 hours a day watching and trying to kick a bag. by the end i could kick the bag 10 times in a row and do a tow and inside stall (thanks to danny greer). i was hooked.

I first started really getting into hacky sack a year and a half ago. Don't get fooled yeah I had kicked plenty of times before, but never tried more than a toe stall ( hit a few) or a butterflier before that. One of my friends was pretty good at hack so I learned a few things from him, pincher, atw, pendulum. We had a lot fun when I found out about footbag.

I bought a DVD at my job (wal-mart) with two sucky bags inside. It was called Assassin I think and was made by Lynton Stephens or something like that from Melbourne, Australia ( sorry about the name if I'm wrong). I was so impressed and wanted to start footbag. Unfortunately I injured myself than and haven't been able to play before mid-september last year.

I then decided to meet montreal's crew and never looked back since.

I hacked my freshman year (01/02) with afew buddies. sophomore year my friend went to another school. he came back for a day and was doing clippers and mirages. we asked what the fuck, he said there was a pro hackysacker there, so we told erik to bring him around next time.
a week later he brought Ricky Moran with him, and thats when i met Miles Kelly, who played footbag at terrace. months later, Justin Dale came around to my highschool to play with the footbag club.

I got my first bag when I was 9 or 10, that was back in 1990 or 91. I was an active "hacker" all through high school and college. One day when I was 23 I was bored at work I searched for "hackysack" on google and found footbag.org. In 13 years of "hacking" I had never once seen REAL freestyle. Remembering back I was the best player at my high school by far in the mid-late 90s. I could do all the kicks, toe stall BS, plus jester BS, even B2B. I could also pendulum. I was a "hack god", the best I knew. I would go to concerts and festivals jump in a hack circle and REGULATE ON EVERYONE with what I thought were jedi-master hack skills (this was in the Boston area which has never been a strong shred region until recently), rainbow jesters, toe stall B2B, overall hackhoggedness. Then, junior year (1997 or so) some kid transferred to our school, he could do an inside stall which blew us all away. He said that in California there were "hacky sack masters" who "just went from stall to stall to stall and never 'kick' the bag". I thought to myself "yeah whatever, that's a pipe dream", I honestly thought the kid was full of it. For some reason I never bothered to look it up on the internet till about 8 years later, I have no idea why since normally I'm a total computer nerd.
