I never heard of the IFAF(international Federation of American Football) before, but they just showed a rerun of the championship game on the NFL network. It was Japan vs USA. We won 23-20 in overtime. Apparently this was the 3rd championship. Its like the world cup so it takes place every 4 years('99, '03, '07), but i felt that if the US team was made up of NFL players/stars we would've dominated. Japan played well though, so I'm probably wrong.

So about the NFL...

My comments on the Bears: Grossman sucks, Griese's our main man. I only watched some of the game, preseason's boring.

-Saints are looking good again, but its just preseason.
-Browns look like they've got a very solid offense.

Any thoughts, hopes, or comments?

I was wondering if this would be named the 20000000008 NFL thread.

I'm predicting that the Bears take NFC North, only because I don't think the other teams in the division have as much of a chance.

Grossman... ok, here's my take on that guy. Everyone who thinks he just needs to live up to his potential is basing that on a vastly overrated idea of what kind of player he can become. He played well against really bad teams at the beginning of last season, but some people acted like he played well against really good teams.

He makes bad decisions. He makes bad throws. He puts so much air under the ball that any corner in the league should be able to break up plays down the field. So if I were calling the plays, I would only feel comfortable throwing down field if: 1, the coverage breaks down; 2, there's a 2nd or 3rd string corner covering the WR; or 3, just to test/stretch out the defense, but that's risky cause you're burning a down, or dropping back to pass and risking a sack.

But he's still the best QB on the team, and there aren't any better QBs available. It would have been nice if they could have improved the offensive line a little (IMO Tait gives up a lot of plays), but that didn't happen either.

Not sure if Benson will be as good as Jones. Special teams will still be a huge advantage. Defense will still be very good. Offense will be worse than last year. So probably closer to the 2005-2006 Bears under Kyle Orton - who still won their division.

Well in order to even throw the ball hes gotta hold onto it. All i remember is Grossman fumbling snaps and getting the ball slapped out of his hands, but i'm just a Grossman hater, I might change my mind if he improves.

I think that our O-line is quite good actually, i never watch the o-line so thats something to do next game.

For our running game, I'd like to see Garrett Wolffe play a whole quarter, maybe a half. Benson tends to just run his given route, i have yet to see him improvise when his blockers fail/gaps are filled, its probably a lack of speed and agility though, he fails at being a good power RB. Put Wolfe in!!!

NFL has been making the news outside of the US for the first time since OJ Simpson. Apparently you're not allowed to have dogfights? Another reason why I won't play the sport.

No, I think he's saying he wont participate in the sport of dog fighting, meaning he isn't yet considering getting in the ring with a pitbull terrier, though the idea isn't too far removed. Either that, or he's saying he wont play American football because of the decisions of two star players (One a decade ago); which is about equally fucking retarded.

American Football is the sport which most closesly resembles war, as all sports attempt, so in my book, it is the truest and purest sport in the world.

The Seahawk's will be better than they were last year. Everyone hated on the Seahawk's last year (Because no one's ever really liked them outside of the Northwest and everyone wanted the ref's to defeat us in the Superbowl) but never mentioned our two star players were out for most of the season and Walter Jones (Best lineman in the game, bar none) was playing through like 7 different serious injuries all 16 weeks, and we still managed to get a game away from the Superbowl and put up a really good game against the Bear's.

Anyone expecting the 49er's to overtake Seattle this year will be surprised. It might be closer than it was last year, but Seattle is a much better overall team and we got a proven lineup. Probably split the season 1-1.

I have Daunte Culpepper on my fantasy team and I'm expecting that to be a good decision. I've always liked Culpepper's arm.

The Bills are the team this year. JP is turning around to be a good QB, but the let all there best defensive players go, I'm just hoping, we'll see in a couple of weeks.

The Bengals/Falcons game just finished up.

Still just pre-season but both offenses are looking mighty prince.

Joey Harrington was making great decisions, watching every wideout and delivering accurate throws. Likewise with Palmer but hes got 2 star receivers(Chad johnson's pretty entertaining to watch though) with soft, supple hands that conform and contour to the shape of the ball(

), Harrington's got... lets see... i dont know.

I've ben wanting to see the Falcons play cause of Noriaki Kinoshita, the first Japanese player in the NFL. He only had one reception, from what i saw and shed a tackle but thats all he got to play.

Both defensive teams were pretty disappointing. They both made some good plays but they weren't consistent enough, specifically the Bengals.

Bear's/49ers game
Grossman had some beautiful throws but gave 49er's an int which was returned for 6 points. He also fumbled another snap. Fucken Grossman! 49er's just sucked though, especially when their crappy offense went up against our defense. Grossman really has to learn to release the ball quicker and throw short passes.

Larry Johnson will do good.

Brodie Croyle will not, but will start to do good at the end of the season (if they play him like they should)

Our receivers will all suck balls.

Our defense will continue to suck balls.

Our defensive backs will improve.

Our kicker will suck balls as usual.

All in all, we will suck balls except for Larry Johnson.

yeah, favre and the packers got real lucky, but they got the job done and did what they had to. especially on defense and special teams. eagles special teams were clearly not ready for their first game...

good season opener for randy moss, eh? 3rd highest game yardage in his career should silence some of the critics that say he's lost his step.

i was real stoked to see the pass protection they got brady, its been a real problem for them in the past, especially in games that they lose, obviously. and all this without rodney harrison or richard seymour.
good to see wes welker already making his presence felt as well. i like how he fits in the NE offense.

How about them Cowboys! Romo had 345 passing yards with only 15 completions! That's 23 yards average per pass!?!? Oh and to top it all off, a rushing touchdown.

Too bad their defense wasn't up to par...we'll have to see next week.

I think Mike Brown's career might as well be over. And the Bears without a running game aren't going to win the division. I guess we'll see if Cedric Benson gets any better.
