Jorden's Journal
HAD to bump this to the next page! WOW!!!Jorden wrote:-=Thursday Sept. 6th, 2007=-
Pulling this thread from page 3. Yikes!
Yesterday was probably the most important day in my life so far. Long story short, I went from being super depressed and confused to being super bounce-off-the-walls excited and motivated.
Basically, my mom and I convinced my Dad to let me start my own business as a full-time professional footbag player this school year instead of being trapped at the University of Guelph. This is HUGE.
This is what my life was GONNA be like for the next 8 months:
- 5 classes (changing my major to something business related)
- walking (for 25 min.) or biking each way every weekday to school
- always scraping by with money
- likely unintentionally LOSING weight because of money situation
- getting a job + 5 classes = no free time
- getting a girlfiend + 5 classes = no free time
- Colombia, Wakahakee, Seattle, Rochester comps etc. all doubtful b/c of school
- maaaaybe 5 paying gigs throughout the year? that's actually being optimistic.
- impossible for me to weight train and shred/juggle with any significant progress
- promoting myself to school boards/sporting exhibitions/festivals etc. near impossible
It went from this early yesterday to THIS:
- staying in Hamilton
- rearranging my room, getting a desk, address book, calendar, etc. and turning it into my bedroom/office
- I will register myself as a business (maybe Gravity Man inc.?)
- starting the 'school' year with $500 (would have went towards school fees and textbooks)
- I would enroll in a night course here in Hamilton -- something to do with what I am pursuing already (business, finance or...video editing?). I am NOT completely dropping out of school -- that would be stupid.
- making a new promotional video directed towards school Phys Ed classes
- I can continue to busk in Hamilton (way more $ than in Guelph)
- designing promotional fliers and handing them out anytime I perform
- focusing the time required to have a polished website eventually (something really basic coming in the next few days!)
- dedicating all my efforts towards this next Season of Famecast. making fliers telling people to vote and delivering them all over Dundas and Hamilton. Please vote! Voting for Top 50 ends September 27th.
- travelling around delivering promotional packages to as many of the schools in the Board as possible
- hopefully make tons of money with the school demos
- signing up for all next summer's Buskerfests in plenty of time
- have time for a girlfriend
- have time for tournaments and jams!
- have time for WEIGHT training!!
- have time to progress RAPIDLY at footbag and juggling!!!
- have time to maybe STITCH footbags??!!
I will seriously be putting in 8 hour days, working probably just as hard as school (did I mention I dread University?), but it will be something I absolutely love and would do anyway like, after school.![]()
I would no longer need to tell curious people that I'm a "Math Major hoping to be a professional performer someday."It would be full steam ahead towards my dream job.
Oh, I forgot the icing on the cake! I will be taking up Yoga and Acrobatics to prepare for the auditions for the National Circus School in Montreal in February. One of the 2 best circus schools in the World.
My life is looking up.
Do I sound excited?

This is very interesting because i have been trying to start my own business, reading LOTS of books on personal business managment, and studying up on becoming a millionair. i have become so motivated from some of these books. i have a few things that help in life too. 1) my brother is a financial advisor 2) my parents are very suportive and my father has wanted to start a business of his own for quite some time. 3) im actually taking a personal business managment this class and my professor has TONS of experience in this world, he has helped me and continues to help me significantly.
although i do have dilemas as any business does, no matter how successful:
1) Funds- i have money but not thousands upon thousands. im sure i could get support from a business managment firm but if the business was a failure i think i would find myself in debt up to my eyeballs.
2) Advertisment- I need a professional web page designed, flyers, sticker, ect.
3) PRODUCT- im only selling footbags right now, YEAH thats a problem. i am advertising them as kicking balls, hackysacks(hope i dont get introuble for that), and juggling balls. search tough twelve footbags on EBAY.
Other- I would really like to get other stitchers to let me advertise their bags on my site. they get low cost hosting in a professional website and i get to keep a certain percentage of their sales.
I know i have a lot more thinking to do and not everything has crossed my mind right now. but all i can say is i know this will take a long time but i have the tools to complete it and i am motivated as hell. I dont know what you are going into in terms of your business but if you need a business partner or an 'employee' who knows what he's doing, then PM or E-mail me: [email protected] it seems like you have it a little more planned out than i do but it would be a dream for me to get this thing started and see results. i dont know what your policy on co-workers, co-owners, co- whatever but if it ever crosses your mind that you need another product on your website or you need help, come to me. I am willing to take the risks as an entrepenuer. i'll be here. It would mean a hell of a lot to me.
anyway, good luck on the business, sounds like your going to have your hands full this year. good luck always.

That's exciting.
Having a significant other can be a big commitment, though... You may end up with not enough time for all of the other things that you really want. You have a lot of determination, Jorden; you're so great
Best of luck!
Oh. There are some circus performers who were busking at our shred location, for a month or so during the summer, and they are from the National Circus school -- they were really good, and gave us props on our hacky skills...

Props Jorden! That's the life.

Amateurs practice until they can get it right.
Professionals practice until they can't get it wrong.
No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

did you know that there's a footbagger who works at the montreal circus school and has for 12 years or so now? he does some light freestyle and lots of net. his name is PJ. He was at worlds, and then funtastik. you should hook up with him, I bet he can get you involved.
good luck, see you at wakahakee.

Good day today.
Moved back to Hamilton from Guelph.
Getting cheques cashed tomorrow.
Hamilton's very own Brian Melo won Canadian Idol tonight. Hell yeah!
And I had a footbag session. Probably the most new stuff I've hit in a session in 3 years.
Length: 75 min.
Goal: hit new stuff.
Single Tricks:
- alpine whirlygig rake
- frontside mxyzptlk (hippy symp hopping -- new set)
- nuclear eggbeater
- pdx tapping torque (both sides)
- atomic symp torque
- wonton motion
- symp mantis (both sides)
- both alpine whirlygigs, one try after the other
Combos:
- whirlygig > whirlwind > big apple (both sides)
- jani > barfly swirl > spin blender (both sides)
- alpine blurry whirl b2b
- alpine blurry whirl > blurry torque > food
Edit: alpine predator.
Check me out on Famecast!
Good night modified.

Birthday yesterday. 20th!
Made $30 busking for 80 minutes yesterday. Cool.
Need to renew gym membership. Will very soon.
Possible tournaments on the horizon: Colombia, Cornell, Seattle.
I need money!!!
Making a sequel to the X-Mas Big Tricks video. It's a fundraiser to help me get to the 1st annual Colombia tournament. It will be ready in about a week and will be $10 to receive the download URL. Expect some serious groundbreaking shit.
I have a Sessions DVD for sale and will be making a few more soon. They're $25 USD, shipping included. I can sign it for free! PayPal to [email protected] . This will help the Colombia cause as well as the "existence of jordenmoir.ca" cause.
Went to Wakahakee this past weekend. A little disorganized but fun. Good times overall. Played well -- came 1st in Circle.
Hey, I will give you free stuff for helping me in Famecast in the Top 50 Round. More details soon...
