Probably the only shredder of all fLemmings
I assume you're not talking about Greg from Paris but rather of a new recruit from the Brussels area? Anyway, it's very good to hear there's fresh blood, muhahahahah. What were the circumstances of recruitment? Alternative sports week? Casual session? Itching...
BTW, in German 'krank' means like 'sick'. I bet he'll be hittin' some sick shit with that crank soon.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Surprise surprise!
Bam at the very end of an otherwise mediocre session:
-58 BOPs
-39 osi (beat my previous best with 5 or so)
It seems consistancy is on its way up... hey I'll take it!

Had a neat session with Giul in Brussels yesterday. Our meeting started off pretty badly though. We had planned to meet up at the Koekelberg basilica (which is by the way a fuckin' impressive building) only to find out we had *both* forgotten to bring footbags. Given that these are indispensable for shred, we headed to Giul's home in Laeken, some 5 kms away.
Once we actually got started, Giul surprised me with a lot of nice combos and trix. Oh and his style and posture are there too. He hit stuff like paradox tapdown (nuclear ss butter), zooming set pdx mirage, blazing ss mirage. Nice! His 2nd footbag birthday is coming up.
As for me I mainly stuck to getting the basics and consistency up again, with the occasional bit of shuffle. I'm slowly recovering my fairies (took me a few sessions): fairy muted clip>pdx mir>repeat. Also hit rubber minus one trick
. Some runs ranging in the 15-25 area, which felt good.

I'll keep you posted on my availabilities, MEC!
We should definitely shred outside for as long as the weather gods will permit us.
Anyway, I kicked for about 1h30 on Friday but had no internet connection until now so that's why this post will mainly be 'old' new news. 't Was my first semi-long solo-session since I got back into it and it felt good.
In fact I was feeling kinda bad about myself (with looking for a job and feeling utterly useless and bla bla) and got out of my shred sess a whole lot better. That's definitely the way to go. When I pressure myself too much often things go in the opposite direction, which is not good.
The session proper: right after (or even during) my warm-up I hit this 27 contact run. Not 5 minutes later I even do 29. Okay, I think to myself, there's a lot of BOPs in it but what the hell.
Now you have to know my record guiltless is 33. I did that last year. So at this point in my Friday session I'm thinking: hm, maybe a record attempt would be a good idea for one of my next sessions. Then, like a quarter of an hour later, I do a 35 contact run pretty much out of the blue! Yeee-haaaa! So it seems consistency is on its way up.
Over the 4 years I've been in the game (of footbag that is) I've had some ups and downs, but it seems that I'm regaining tricks faster with every comeback I make. That's good, cuz I used to think my muscle memory stinks and sometimes after a break it felt like I had to play really hard for weeks/months in order to regain everything I could do before the break. And sometimes I took a new break just when everything fell back into place... a bit annoying really.
This morning I have also realised why I keep coming back to footbag. This may seem trivial. No matter what some people on this forum (used to) say about personal attacks and hostility and what not... it's the (almost) absence of competition, envy and ego. The supportive nature of most contacts. Footbag is more of a personal quest than of 'having to be better than others'. To me at least. But I think this applies to many people. Of course you can brag when you've hit this trick or that combo (I do it too, when I have something to brag about
), but again most of the time footbag is a personal thing. The bag and you.
I've been around a few fora and some hobbies and interests. Up to now footbag is the only sport I've found that has such a supportive aura about it. It took me some time to realise that.

Dear children,
I had a nice session with first Giul and later Giul and our new recruit Greg in Brussels. Earlier today, Giul had pleasantly surprised me with a FAT vid of himself playin' and hittin' nice tricks and combos. This evening he wasn't "feeling it" though. At least that's what he said. He's at the point where even when you feel like you're playing like crap, you can still hit some nice things. So that's good. He's actually tooling with zooming and when he does so he reminds me of Takumi, which can't be bad.
Greg, the new recruit, has sweet ankle crank indeed. He's doing atw, some mirages, clippers, legovers, mostly toes, and some tiltless combos also. I gave him some pointers as to his stalls, pointers Sean Wingert - one of my hacky dads - gave me when I started off and that helped me loads. Greg seems eager to learn and he seems to take my advice seriously. He's always attentive when I try to explain shit to him - or maybe he's just trying to decipher my bad French.
Most of all, I'm really stoked about having fresh blood in the club.
Anyway, I had a neat session. I didn't do any long runs - as far as I remember, but I did get some nice combos under me belt. For some reason my toe play feels better than it did before my break. Also regaining some 5s like pdx blender, matador and blurry whirl. Happy about that!

Nice lil' sesh for me this evening.
Worked some more on consistency and my work is really bearing fruit! I upped my guiltless personal best with a few tricks again (from 35 to 39)
I recall thinking "wow, 40 is a real milestone though" on the 39th trick, after which I dropped a spinning clipper
Anyway, I have this nice new habit of switching between shuffle and low-dex/low-impact runs every five to ten minutes. And this really seems to work for me. Getting the heart rate and the acid in the muscles down to an acceptable level before every shuffle section allows me to go harder, longer (in a very non-sexual way obviously).
What else is worth mentioning?
-a shitload of runs in the 20s area
-8 tripless without too much effort. I'm sure I'll beat my record of 9 in the not too distant future.
-5 dexless. That was fun. I should do more of that. In fact, one of my new year's resolutions for 2007 was 10 unique dexless and I can definitely do better than half of it...
-some nice combos and drills like
*smear>pixie mirage>repeat
*paradon>blur both sides (was actually going for BAP drill)
*pdx whirl back to back, starting from the bad one

I just had a super annoying sesh. The annoying part derives from the fact that, after last sesh, I had the feeling I'd beat my tripless record E-A-S-Y. Which proved to be not so E-A-S-Y today
. I got 8 once and a bunch of 7s probably, but never the desired 10. Bleh.
The fact that I got close to my osis record too adds up to this. Got 34 and 38, but never 40. I repeat: Bleh
Some Aaliyah lyrics come to mind: "if at first you don't succeed, you can dust it off and try again."
I kinda like the visual support in my last post, so I'll do the same here:

I just read that:
Anyway it's good to see that you recover your footbag feellings
We need to do a shred before paris please....
