Neodymium Magnets (rare earth magnets)

I just ordered a a set of two N40 strength of of united nuclear.anyone have some? ive experienced them before, they are uber cool. cant waittill they come.

Neodymium magnets should always be handled carefully. Some that are slightly larger than the size of a penny are powerful enough to lift over 10 kilograms.

An NIB's magnetic force increases with the size of the piece of ferromagnetic metal and larger neodymium magnets can severely pinch skin or fingers, or even break bones when suddenly attracted to a magnetic object. Operating a large neodymium magnet close to smaller magnetic objects (keys, pens, etc.) and larger magnetic surfaces (radiator or a car, for example) can be dangerous if the person is caught between the magnet and the magnetic object or surface.

The magnets can fracture at temperatures over 150 Â°C, or under impact as a result of their own acceleration. When this happens, in some cases the magnets may break apart so suddenly that flying pieces can cause injury.

Caution must be taken when using neodymium magnets. A neodymium magnet is powerful enough to destroy the contents of a floppy disk to such an extent that the information is unrecoverable, a guarantee not present with techniques such as formatting the disk. In regards to the information contained on the magnetic stripes of credit cards, neodymium magnets are amongst the only materials that can successfully erase this data. Neodymium magnets are often strong enough to not only magnetize color CRT shadow masks, but also physically deform the mask itself. Such damage is typically not repairable by degaussing.

yea, i read that too.

cant wait till my parents have to sign the form when the UPS man comes. i'll tell them its for sewing. which by the way they can be used for that. so in a way its not a lie. and byrnsie i may bring 1 to school but i dont want no shit shattering,

the ones i ordered are slightly larger than a penny, only 11 bucks but shipping was 9 bucks

oh well, it's deff. worth it.

i heard that some cars that have alot of electronics in them go out of order if a strong magnet is held over the right spot.

I have some and you have to be careful not to break them, they are really brittle.

Hey Ben,

I am probably the person that uses rare earth magnets the most so I will add some advice here.

The magnets you've ordered will be impossible to work with, they will be waaaay too strong to be useful and probably damage any material you're trying to secure.

I use a 3 lb one, my 5 lb one is totally impractical and actually totally annoying. Good luck with 20-30 lbs.

yea i know tom, you are the one i have seen using them(video, picture?). see when i ordered them i entered my company name "tough twelve foobags" which my parents are very aware of. when the package comes to the door and needs be signed they will say "what the F, chemicals??!" then they will say, "Oh, its just for bens footbags." and they will sign it, i will get the magnets and begin my devious plans.
