Old videos: Ricky Moran

Post by Muffinman »

I was browsing some old archives of mine, looking for footage of my hero, "Sticky" Ricky Moran, after reading a post in Ken's blog that mentioned him; I thought I would share some really groundbreaking footage that was posted here back in, like, early 2004 or so, pre-injury:

http://www.footbag.org/gallery/show/-2291
(49mb, 4:35min)

http://www.footbag.org/gallery/show/-2494
(87mb, 8:11min)

I'm also watching other stuff, like, Evan Lovely's SJFF, from the same year, which has really incredible shred by Ricky, Lon, and the epic Rippin Run with Ricky versus Pete, but those vids are, like, 200 megs each...

Thanks Erik!

I still remember at the US Open 2006 in Portland, some guy joined our circle and introduced himself as Ricky. This was one of my more n00balicious footbag moments, I'd never heard of Ricky Moran before. Anyway at first he was just warming up, doing gyro clippers which I thought were some weird form of osis. After about 45 minutes in the circle he had slowly warmed up to the point where he was busting huge spinning/ducking runs and I was like "wow you're really good, what's your name again?" Hahaha I was such a n00b, and probably still am a little ;)

Since then I've seen his part in Fourkast but that's it. So I'm pumped to watch these videos.

At Worlds Justin had mentioned that Ricky was finally healed up and ready to get back into shredding but then was tragically hit by a boat while skateboarding somehow :?:

-In the "Just a Taste" vid who is that 3rd guy with the toe-spinning?

Never seen Jane Zerbe footage before, she is GOOD!

Man that RCS vid made me want to shred right NOW. Hanging on to that one for sure.

I'm pretty sure that's Miles Kelly. I kicked with him and Mike Strumf from RCS (who lives in Chicago now) at a jam with Cloud9 in Minnesota back in 2004. He was doing lots of cool following (or trailing?) tricks like that, toe spinning, and super HUGE symposium mirages. He looks a lot like Richie I think.

I think this is about the first time a vid I saw when it first came out is re-posted. It seems I've been around for a while :o

justataste was the first time I watched Ricky. When I just got into footbag and my game was mostly dexes, he was a huge inspriation to do more body add-based stuff!

So I had Ricky over there the other night (a rare occasion) and I jumped on modified to low and behold a post about Ricky as the top topic. We both got a kick out of it. He wanted to also mention that he liked his Victoria videos better. You can check them out at the RCS website in my signature under videos.
I have about 40+ tapes of heinous unreleased shred of Ricky (and myself). I would love to share it with the world but I don't do videos. If anyone wants to take on the task just pm me.

The footage of Ricky from SJFF4 is pretty bad. :) I hope Ricky comes back and starts shredding with us here in Seattle sometime, but who knows what the future holds. Truly a great guy, fun to hang out with -- always a super positive attitude.

These videos are so sentimental for me. I was around for most of these sessions and was just learning my basics back then. I think I'm even in the back of one of them trying to learn clipper!

Much love to Justin, Ricky, Jane, Scott, Miles Kelly, Andrew Johnson, the Brothers(!), Ben Schmaltz, and so many others for making me love this sport! RCS was the shit back in the day! YMCA sessions forever.
