The problem with corn is the same problem with eating too much of any single food item, it does not have everything your body needs, and it creates a greater likelihood of adverse reactions to that food. Allergies to corn are rising dramatically, especially in the US and it is hard to think of any reason other than because American processed food is full of corn.

lol. That's funny. Maybe a jog would do them some good. It's obviously not just metabolism. Laziness is a huge part of it too.

"It is healthy if eaten sparingly"
No, it's unhealthy, so you should only eat a little at the most.
Incidentally the World Health Organisation states that there is no safe level of trans fats, and that any amount can lead to heart disease. Guess what you find in fast food? So eating one serving of McDonalds fries or burgers increases your risk of heart disease. Eating those foods "sparingly" increases your risk of heart disease. 50% of currently healthy males in the US are predicted to develop heart disease.
But don't let the facts worry you Fred. You should probably increase your diet of fast food, because it is sooooooo good for you!

Ok, if you're talking about ANY trans fat or ANYTHING that is unhealthy, then you can include just about every god damn thing that's boxed in a grocery store, because it ALL has at least a small amount of unhealthy substance in it.Jeremy wrote:lolly pop.Switch Kicker wrote:It is healthy if eaten sparingly you stupid bitch. Your view on this is pathetically narrow.
Yeah, don't eat any fries, ever. One will increase your likely hood of dying 10 years earlier. Which would be around 65. (As if I'd want to live any longer...)

It is true that many packaged food contains trans fats, and personally I avoid packaged food as much as I can. Australia is looking like introducing laws banning the sale of food with trans fats anyway.
For the record, as I was told in the first aid course I finished yesterday (for work), if you get to 65 and haven't had a heart attack, your risk goes down. The highest risk time for heart attacks is 40 to 60.
So I'm guessing you're about 20, and if you keep eating your MacDonald's burgers "sparingly" because you think that's healthy for you, you could be dying within another 20 years (or maybe even a lot less). Also note that while weight and smoking increase your risk, plenty of people still suffer heart attacks and heart disease despite being very fit.
To sum up; McDonalds and other fast food tastes like crap, you can get better tasting and cheaper burgers from any local independent corner store (that sells its own burgers). It's very unhealthy, even if you only eat it once a month, you're still going to be less healthy than if you didn't eat it at all. It's very environmentally destructive. Mass produced food destroys land, creates copious green house gas emissions and creates a huge amount of waste. It's supporting very unethical corporations that put everything, including human rights and the environment behind making money. People get killed protesting about the destruction of the Amazon Rainforest by companies that are clearing the land to grow products for fast food restaurants all the time; and by buying that food through those fast food restaurants, you're supporting that destruction and you're supporting those murders.
Of course I occasionally eat fast food, most often Burger King; I'm not perfect. But I eat it very rarely, and usually only when I'm drunk. I'm fully aware of the problems and I try my best to not be part of the problem.
Right now I don't think I'd like to live until I'm too old; but I know I change my mind about things; and I'd prefer to make my decision about what I want to do with my life when I'm 65 when I'm 65; and I'd like to have as many options open to me as possible.
Fred doesn't want to live to be older than 65, but if you live a lifestyle where you're going to be sick and unhealthy when you get to that age anyway, you're not really going to have much choice are you?
In any event, healthy food makes you feel more energetic, you can think better and you literally feel happier. Your body has evolved to eat food that hasn't been processed much, not processed food made from processed food and not largely products of one single species of corn. Your body reacts much better when you give it what it has evolved to feed on.
I agree 100% with Jeremy. ...obviously. Logic = good, IMO
My mom is a vegetarian (and lactose intolorant) and she reads piles of books about healthy eating. We eat lots of Tofu (and other soy products), whole grains (though we're cutting back on carbs a bit, as of recently), rafts of fresh greens, and very little dairy (mostly just hard cheeses). When I'm at home (as opposed to travelling somewhere) I never eat fast food. The last time I ate fast food was a bowl of chili at a Tim Hortons when I was at Mosher's Camp Wakahakee. The time before that was at Worlds.
I wasn't eating great at Worlds. I had cheap sandwich meats and lots of cream cheese (niether of which I eat at home) and pretzels and that kind of stuff at the best of times. At one point I had a chicken burger that Disney was selling. ...ugh. Minutes after skarfing it back, I see Mr. Dan Ednie! Mid ripwalk, munching on a fist sized chunk of raw collie flower!! (*Epiphany*) He had brought a whole raft of vegetables to snack on instead of buying Disney's fast-food! He didn't have to suffer from that groggy feeling that comes of eating shit that's disguised as food.
Needless to say, at the next event I whent to (Camp Wakahakee) I brought a pile of veggies. And it was infinately better than anything else I could have brought. Fast, filling, healthier in the long run, and leaves you feeling energized and completely Grog-free. I ate several full carrots (as opposed to the baby ones), an entire collie flower, a couple cucumbers (the small ones), and a bunch of apples (fruit, I know). It was GREAT! I reccomend it to everyone.
PS: Going to that Tim Horton's was after shred that day, so feeling heavy and lathargic was fine since all we were doing was sitting around the fire after that. ...not to make excuses...

I didn't make shit up. I made an exaggeration of your narrow minded views. I can see you failing in relationships with this kind of stupid manipulative attitude you have.Jeremy wrote:lol. You do realise making shit up makes you look silly right?
And that post didn't say anything. All it said is that fast food does what MANY MANY MANY companies do. Fucks up other parts of the world for American benefit.
I don't get why people get so worked up over deaths in the world. You DO realize that trying to prevent heart disease, murder, starvation and such things, will only fuel an even bigger problem. And that's population control. It's gonna get out of control as it is. We don't need 50,000 less deaths in the world to fuel the fire.
I think you're just mad that some countries take a bigger more "immoral" blow of deaths than other countries. Such as Africa's massive starvation death toll, compared to America's death toll by car accidents. Maybe if more people in the industrialized countries died from starvation, and more Africans died from car accidents, you wouldn't worry about it so much.
Jeremy's next big challenge... "The fight against old age... The silent totally expected killer..." I actually don't think anyone's been labeled dead by old age in over 50 years. I'm so off track right now...

Oh trust me, MUCH more frustrating lol...It's funny, I was like 119 lbs in high school, and people always called me skinny n stuff. And I hated it, so I wanted to gain weight so bad. I tried everything, and at one point I tried drinking beer. That turned out to be the only thing that actually worked. So yeah, there's your lesson kids: Eat all the McDonald's you want, but don't ever drink beer if you want to keep your high metabolismBenRea wrote:I wish i could turn my motabolism on and off. it's so frustrating not being able to gain wait. im sure its equally if not more frustrating to not be able to lose it.

i agree about the corn thing being bad, but the reason its bad is because of corn syrup... not necessarily corn, the kernel.
i personally like fast food, and i eat it daily. i probably wont be able to do this when im older, just because ill be sick of it... but where i live, its rare to find something fast and healthy. hell, our mc donalds doesnt even offer salads. right now i am probably underweight... 125lbs and 5'4". but what you eat doesnt only effect weight, it effects arteries and mood and sleep pattern and ladycycles and everything else.

A few thoughts:
1. Whether or not you gain weight is not a good measure of how healthy a food is. Sure, you may be able to eat McDonalds every day and not gain weight, but you may also be clogging up your arteries and increasing your risk of a heart attack. Just because something doesn't make you fat doesn't mean it is healthy (cigarettes, for example).
2. The reason Americans eat so much corn is simple; corn production is heavily subsidized by the government. There are a ton of foods which contain corn, which could be made more cheaply by using another ingredient. It's only thanks to the subsidies that using corn becomes the cheaper option.
3. Even if your metabolism is capable of "making up" for a bad diet, you are still developing eating habits which can come back to haunt you when you are older. I am half-Japanese and I play footbag almost everyday. This means that I could get away with eating really badly, probably at least as long as I continue to play footbag. But once I hit 40 (or 30, or 35, or whatever age I stop exercising) I won't be burning off as many calories everyday, and I will be used to (addicted even) eating really unhealthy foods.
4. A lot of healthy food is delicious and cheap. A hand of bananas tastes good, is good for you, and costs about a dollar. You get way more food and nutrition for your money than buying cookies/junk food, etc.

A quick word about metabolism and eating fast-food all day. I can fully recognize myself in Switch Kicker because when I was his age I too ate fast-food (usually McDonalds) every single day. Quite often multiple times a day. I'd even brag about it: "yeah I eat McDonalds everyday and look at me.. I'm not fat". When I was 24 or so I came to a pretty startling conclusion that I'd been to McDonalds close to 5000 times. That's when I stopped going there.
Anyway back on the topic of metabolism: when you're young your body can take anything, it heals quickly etc. When you get to the 26yr+ you'll notice slight differences.. like fat around the waist for example
In the mean time, Switch if you're 17 or 20 or around that age, eat your heart out (so to speak) it won't make a huge difference. But Jeremy is still correct.
