Water..
Water..
So when you are shredding, how much water do you drink? Either before, during or after the session... I try to drink small amounts of water during my sessions. I dont like to drink a large amount at any single time, because it tends to make me feel bloated. On the other hand I can work up a good sweat during a long session, so I dont wanna risk getting dehydrated....
I also don't drink a lot of water before/during a shred session. It usually weighs me down and I don't like water sloshing around when I'm trying to hit a particular move. I drink a fair amount of water regularly, so I'm usually hydrated enough to begin a session.
After shredding, however, I make sure that I drink a good amount of water in order to replenish any liquids that I lost through sweating. I think that as long as you take periodic gulps of water during a session and then make sure to drink some afterwards you won't run the risk of dehydration.

I drink a shit load of water. If I'm playing in a circle, I'll drink after every run, and if I'm playing by myself I drink every couple of minutes. I don't drink a lot each go, but I'd drink about a litre an hour on average. A lot more if it's warmer.
Keeping your fluids up is vital; you'll always play worse when dehydrated.

These bad boys are shred-essentials down in Texas

2 other guys I play with also use them. Mine holds 100 oz / 3 L and at last night's 2 hours session, I drank all of mine. During daytime sessions I'll usually have to refill it at least once in a 2-3 hour session. GREAT for tournaments/jams when you're playing all day and constantly need water.
Hydration is absolutely essential. Often times if you wait until you are really thirsty to drink, it's too late. If you are not hydrated you can be much more susceptible to muscle cramps. Plus I feel I play better when I'm properly hydrated.

I bring about a gallon to each shred session. I just drink it as I need it, I don't think I go through a whole gallon but it depends on the length of the session. There's nothing worse than getting dehydrated during footbag, you lose all of your energy and also cramp up.
I would also recommend Brawndo, The Thirst MUTILATOR. It's got what plants crave, it's got electrolytes.

I now drink a combo of water/vitamin water..
Always stay well hydrated, it's one of the easiest / best things you can do for your general health. Drink plenty of water prior to the session because hydrating during the session takes a while for the fluids to actually get through your system. An easy way to figure how hydrated you are is to urine analyze
Just make sure your urine is a light color / clear. If you've been drinking water and it's still a dark color, keep on drinkin. When you get to the point of keeping your urine a light / clear color , you'll notice you'll be peeing a lot more because of all the water weight you now have.
Johnny Suderman made a great thread about hydrating. Find that and you'll be good to go.

Of course the figures depend on the person, but it is a fact that losing only a couple of percents of your body fluids causes your bodys max capacity to drop 15-20%. Drinking big amounts of water once in a while doesn't help as much. When constantly sweating, it is recommended to have a few sips (one or two desiliters) once in 15 minutes. And the best liquid to have is body temperature water, if it's cold your body wastes energy to warm it up in your stomach.

I used to drink a cup of coffee or an energy drink a while before a session and then I'd have gatorade during the later parts of the session to keep me going. For some reason it felt like my knees hurt less if I drank things during the session. Not sure if this is true. And I'm also cutting out caffeine in the beginnings of sessions and I don't think gatorade is good so I'm actually taking a similar approach as Ken; eating salty-ish things is kind of a thing for me now. Gatorade has salts in it but. . I just don't trust the stuff anymore.

I drink around a gallon of water for every 2 hours of shred by myself. That's just during the session. I'll then usually have a big glass of water afterwards with my post-session meal. I sweat so much, it's ridiculous.

I figure if you drink too much water it will slow you down only if you don't drink properly (huge amounts at a time). Same deal with potato chips or any other product: a couple of chips is delightful, but more than a handful will make you feel tired (at least this happens to me alot).C-Fan wrote:I disagree with everybody so far; drinking water slows me down, so I don't drink any. During the course of playing you do lose a lot of salt through sweat, so I make a point to eat salt and vinegar potato chips when I play. But no water or fluids of any kind.
I disagree with you Ken on this one, in my opinion drinking water is essential while playing sports, you just have to know the right way to drink it.
Like, 100% people that I know don't drink water properly. They drink as much as they can, but the water ends up sitting in their stomach for the rest of the day, thus making them feel heavy. It's important to take water is small doses and don't swallow. You want to make sure all the water is completely absorbed by you body before it gets to your stomach. If you swallow water, then:
1) You waste water.
2) You will get tired and it will slow you down.
I know what I'm saying is right and I encourage everybody using the technique described above.
EDIT: Reworded

i think you might mean something other than swallow. Swallow means water goes from your mouth down your throat. Surely you don't mean hold the water in your mouth until its absorbed?
JSACK wrote:alright well me and obara'bars, shredded our dicks off, since we are both in high school, obviously there is some sort of talent show
No, that's exactly what I meant Henry. You take a small amount of water in your mouth and make sure it stays there for a while, that way some of it will be absorbed by your oral cavity (I dunno if that's the right word ).HG wrote:i think you might mean something other than swallow. Generally I avoid using the term "oral cavity" as it sounds kind of dirty. I prefer "face hole."
