How do you seed? And what does it do? Can you seed if you don't have the whole file? Does it slow down your download, but speed up others'? If so, if everybody seeds, will it balance out and make it faster for everyone somehow?

normally everything you are downloading is beeing seeded as well. even if you have only a small percentage completed. still the term seeding applies to the part where you still share what you have 100% complete... so its kind of a generous thing to do. it helps the others to finish their download faster by having more sources to "leech" from.

back in the days (tm) (and still on some not-so-legal-boards) you even had to fullfill a certain upload/download-ratio.

it doesn't slow your download (it raises CPU-usage though.. but that should not be a problem) but it does effect your browsing. when my client runs at high speed i feel browsing is slower due to the sheer mass of connections and and bandwith-usage (as well as CPU-load...)

well.. i wouldnt like to install their thingie for the upload myself too much but it took me only 4 hours to leech 2.3 gigs of net footage in HD that were uploaded by Jack Harris. their seeding servers are just ssssmoking fast.
anything they provided came to me at maximum DSL-speed.
so since everybody is bitching about how long it would take to get the WHOLE file spread (i got 35% since my first post.. but i am afraid that some parts may take forever) it might be an alternative.

btw: whats you actual upload speed? (mine is 40k)

Yeah the upload where I'm at is only 50kbps sooo yeah. I have 43% online at penny-lane.com but their server hard drive is full... even though my moms account with them isnt full.. so they have their "admins" working on it and they will get back to me within 24 hours... boo

20% looks like very nice download at the moment..

Uploading at 30 kB/s (not kb/s

)...not the fastest but its atleast a rough 1/4 - 1/6 of my down speed. How much upload does the seeder have? ...

When you upload the term is to seed but the people called seeders are the ones that have the full file others are called leechers.

and I will definitely keep the torrent in my client for a while. with my wooping 30 kB/s :-/

i hope so because that lil ol b sure makes a difference .."it's" on the otherhand is because im too lazy to hit the " ' " key

B = byte
8 bits = 1 byte

Sometime's there's a default port that torrent programs use. try changing the port so it's compatible/identical to the one your computer is using.

a few things you need to do to make torrents get alot of connections.

1. Use a Client e.g. Azureus, Bitcomet

2. Forward Ports on your Router ... you can run a NAT/Firewall Test with most clients. In Azureus you do this under Tools.

3. change the tcp inbound connection limit on xp. it might not change the download rate for some files because you are already getting the max connections that you can get but for most it will help significantly. It also speeds up the connection process.

You can get a program to do this for you a bit easier than changing the registry by hand link ...there is a german and an english version.
The usual limit on xp since the whole ftp virus problems is now at i think 100. it can be changed to about 16mios I think.. but you don't need to get out of hand.. 1000000 is enough for me.
