Notyelfs Footblog

Post by notyelf »

Hi all!

I have been surfin modified for a few months now (though this is my first post) and thought I would throw up a footblog :)

Heres a little about me

Age: 27
Height 5'8"
Weight 190
Live in Everett Washington (Just north of Seattle)
Been footbaggin for about 13 years, but only every once in a while seriously, other times just circle kickin with a good ole crotched hacky.

I actually weighed about 240 2 years ago, did a lot of working out to get down to the 190 I am now, and am getting bored of working out, so I picked up a new 32 panel footbag (thanks Brinard!) and been goin non-stop for the last few weeks.

I have all my basic toe stalls down and can do a few ATWs on the right, with the occassional on the left. I can also now hit a clipper on my left foot fairly consistently, but not so much on the right foot =).

I normally work Mon-Fri with the typical 8-5 type schedule so I shred on my breaks and lunch and sometimes after work. I normally warm up till I get over a hundred kicks and then start working on stalls then drilling, then cool down with kicks again.

Today (and probably the next few weeks) I am going to drill my 1 ADD moves more to make sure I got them all down as near to 100% perfect as I can (form, balance, control, breathing etc etc) Then I am going to try to drill some of the 2 ADD moves, Clippers, ATWS (in and out), Mirage, Illusion and Legovers :D

I don't mind if anyone wants to post in here, especially if its tips and advice :D

Welcome to Footbag!

Keep practicing everything both sides & you'll build the strongest foundation for improving. I wish I hadn't been so reluctant to start practicing everything both sides... Um, let's see, you mentioned clipper so maybe I've got some tips for you there?

Practicing inside stalls & stretching your ankles (carefully) are probably the most fundamental for clipper, but also reading the topics on form in trick tips & watching video will be helpful if its more of a form/balance/coordination issue. Hope that helps.

(Also, put your name in your signature & then people will know who you are)

Thanks for the tips guys!

I started off kickin on my break, nailed 50 kicks and decided to start stalling. Got 21 consecutive stalls on my toes, couldn't get passed 11 on my inside stalls though (alternating each foot). Got clippers a few times on both sides. I managed to pop one in the air high enough a few times to get under it with my opposite clipper, but I must need to work on my form cause it seems like I am way to slow to get under it.

Welcome.

Good to see some "older" players get into freestyle, at 27 you may find yourself one of the oldest on this forum. Don't let that discourage you. I myself will be 26 in a week. Like you I knew about regular hack for like 12 or 13 years before I found freestyle (around age 23).

Sounds like you are on the right track for learning freestyle. Your plan sounds good.

What will really help improving your game will be to play with other experienced players in your area. You are lucky to live outside Seattle, there are some really good shredders there.

Hook up with Rain City Shred, the Seattle club if you can. Justin D. will probably be the best person to contact.

There will be SJFF (Seattle Juggling and Footbag Festival ?) next month. You will definitely NOT want to miss that event. I wish I could go. Info here:

Keep us posted on your progress :) :) :)

Thanks for the links and tips Iron!

I will actually be 28 in a few weeks =)

So normally I take calcium supplements (started taking them after how bad my joints used to ache after working out, helped greatly) but I ran out a few weeks ago, but I still been feelin fine till yesterday. Did an hour session after working during a nice windstorm :D. Afterwards though my shins and ankles were kickin my butt. So, guess I need to get some more calcium supps and take it easy for a few days =)

Got a few sessions in this weekend, left shin is gettin bad, think it's cause something is out in my back but oh well. Been trying to not do any jumping tricks and playing in the grass.

I drilled a lot of stalls today for about an hour, then a few friends came over and we circle kicked for a while. Got a few atw stalls, been trying to work on doing a clipper stall from one side to opposite clipper. Got it a few times but feels like I am trying to move way to much.

Been kinda off and on this week, 15 minutes here and there when I can, but it seems to help cause my clippers and ATWs are getting way better. I was outside shreddin at work yesterday (which I thought was secluded) but after landing like 3 or 4 ATWs in a row I started hearing clapping...I'm like wtf? So I turn around and theres some peps there clapping and were watching me lol.

I landed a few osis this week, but mainly I am getting excited that I am landing clippers consistantly. The only problem is, I can't control the direction of where the footbag goes very often.

On an amusing side note, I think I played too much footbag yesterday (little over 2 hours throughout the day) as my fiance almost kicked me out of bed last night. Everytime I started to fall asleep I would start thinking about footbag, and my legs and arms were twitching like I was kicking at a bag lol

Getting excited. During a circle session I got ATW stalls on both feet in one go. Clippers are getting better and slightly controlled. Still havent gotten it down so I can clipper from one side to the other, but its comming along. Took a break from exercise yesterday as I was totally sore and exhausted :D

Tried some mirages and legovers with no luck over the weekend. Also got 57 consecutive toe stalls in a row :)

Today I think I am going to drill the f out of clippers

Finally got a few clippers from one side of the body to the other, and a bit more consistant with ATWs on both feet. Tried some ducking stuff for shits and giggles with no luck =). Landed a real clean Osis yesterday but I think it was just dumb luck, cause I couldnt land another one after that lol.

Gonna take a few days break cause my body is sore as hell (3 days in a row with several 2+hour shred sessions!) and I think I am getting sick from playing in a tanktop/shorts in really cold weather :D.

Figure ill watch the shit out of some videos and come back to it in 3 or 4 days :D

Yeah! Go dude!

Taking breaks is a good idea.
Not as long as the ones I am taking at the moment though.

A good one for control on clipper is to try and do clipper > same clipper without planting the foot doing the stall and then do it a decillion times in a row.

I will keep checking in..

Thanks Asmus that's a good idea I haven't tried that yet.

Sorry for the long delay in posting, life has been hectic lately. Manage to get a few hours of shreddin in a few times a week though. Right now I can hit legovers bsos. I still have trouble with my timing on pixies, illusions and mirages though. I can land them every once in a while, but it seems I am out of time on them. I am starting to get good with ATWs in almost all directions, out-in and in-out, but I can do them from inside, toe and outside stalls =). I can bsos clippers every once in a while, and I tried this move out where I do left cliper and out-in ATW with my left leg to a toe delay. I love doing it cause it flows well and actually looks cool :D. Unfortunately my legs keep getting sore or feeling like I pulled a muscle in my hips...definately need to stretch more =).

Man, so I took a 20 minute break form work to work on some tricks and I landed a mirage, pixie and illusion all in one string 8O !

I don't know why I have had such a hard time with it and suddenly just started landing them with out too much difficulty today. Also got a few more bsos clippers and bsos legovers for good measure :D

So I have been drilling the hell out of clippers, ATWs, Mirages, Illusions, Pixies, fairies, Legovers and pickups, when last night in a session with a friend of mine I nailed a butterfly first try on accident, and managed to land almost every subsequent butterfly afterwards!

Last night I landed Legover>Legover>butterfly and Mirage>Legover. I love landing all these new moves :D

It's weird. I can land legovers almost 100% of the time now, including pickups though I still have some difficulties with illussion/mirages and pixie/faires, but some days I can't land a clipper. I am also going for osis now but I can't land that for shit either :D. I can land butterflies both sides now, trying for DATW's but my leg feels retarded when I go for those =).

Oh well, time to drill clippers like they are going out of style =)

So my dog ate my foogbag (literally). Well he chewed up a few panels, and luckily the dumb ass didnt eat any of the lead filler, but I so want to kill him!! I don't even know how he got it.

I had a good Christmas but I am sick as hell with a cold right now =(.

So does anyone here try to do ATWs, Legovers, Pickups, Mirage/Illussion and Pixie/Fairies and stalling the footbag on something else other than the toe? I have been doing this one pick up where I catch it on an inside stall, and a legover where I catch it on my heel. My favorite is doing an inside stall and doing an atw to an outside stall =). I've been doing the opposite to, starting an atw from inside, outside and heel stalls. I am still having difficulties doing anything from a clipper stall though =(

So I've been shreddin the new year with a brinard bag a friend of mine let me borrow a few times. Yesterday I got a ;

Legover>Mirage>Butterfly>Legover from clipper.

It's weird but I can hit Butterflies from almost anywhere now. Dunno why those became so easy all of a sudden.

I really need to start drilling Osis soon. I can land my clippers really well most of the times now, but I can't land Osis at all.
