Boston Shred Crew, manly baby steps
Hey Boston crew
My best friend works at Logan airport and lives right off one of the train lines (near Quincy I believe). I plan to make a trip there this spring - I'll drop you a line before hand, maybe we can get together for some kicking
Thanks
Bob R.
edit: my bad on taking the first post on a new page. unintentional

if you want to hear the full story of what happened today at work, here it is:
ok so the shop is now owned by two brothers who grew up in the same part of dorchester that i have, i may have mentioned that before. it was originally owned by the father and his brother, the uncle named johnny he weighed about 300 lbs, smoked about 3 packs a day, and drank glass after glass of rum and coke, all while waiting on customers and making keys. he also lived in a small apartment/office directly above the shop, which is at like basement level, with a big open window onto the street at the front. so he lived upstairs in a tiny apartment that has a bathroom, and bedroom/living room, and a tiny kitchen between the two. however, roughly a week after i joined the company (at which point he wasnt even working anymore due to declining health) he fell down upstairs and laid in a small puddle of his own blood from a small cut on his head for an unknown number of hours/days. so an ambulance took him to the hospital, where he found out he had throat cancer that had also spread to his liver and brain, and he's now in a rehad hospital. so i, of course, now make use of mostly his fridge and microwave. i recently put 4 12 packs of mt. dew upstairs in the fridge for myself. im the only one that uses it now. also the place is really cluttered up there because they've been moving his stuff out, and storing some locksmithing related stuff in boxes and crates up there.in addition to the 48 cans of dew, i also recently bought a gallon of whole milk and some hershey's chocolate syrup, and i use the same glasses johnny used to drink his rum and coke in to drink some excellent chocolate milk from while im relaxing down in the shop, typically reading the paper or going online. so i was going upstairs to make myself the final chocolate milk of the day. i got halfway up the stairs when i detected the odor of buring. i jogged up the rest of the way and there was so much smoke up there i couldnt see 5 feet in front of my face. not to interupt the story, but there's another guy that works at the shop. he's this 52 year old maniac that used to know the father that primarily owned the place. this guy is named jimmy. he's a lot like johnny was; he smokes like a pack a day (actually he quit this weekend while he was sick, first time in like 20 years) he eats like burger king and steak and cheeses everyday, swears constantly, watches jerry springer obsessively, and refers to black people as "hankys." so he was downstairs, and i yelled down to him "JIMMY! there's a lot of smoke upstairs!" and he was like "what was that?" and i was like "JIMMY! THERE'S A LARGE AMOUNT OF SMOKE UPSTAIRS" and i just ran upstairs to see what it was. so i get into the kitchen and there's the stove, bright bright cherry red, especially the left front burner on the stove, which appeared to be on. on that burner was a round pan that was pink, and there appeared to be some sort of top to it that had melted and collapsed into the pan. there was also a large fake wood-paneled door leaning against the stove, less than a foot above the pan. so i ran over and tossed off the door, turned off the stove, and turned on the lights. yes, the lights were off. then i opened the front door of the place, and smoke started billowing out like a smokestack, attracting the neighbors concern. so i told jimmy what it was, even though i already had a possibly guilty conscience, because i remembered kicking that door earlier that day in the dark, but as soon as i told jimmy what it was, he was like "oh-uh, that must have been me, i kicked that fuckin door earlier in the dark and it moved some." and i think it was him too, because i did it much earlier than him. so apparently it knocked the door down a little bit on the stove, turning on the burner. its a good thing it didnt happen when i did it. i probably would have died downstairs, reading the paper.
long ass story.

thanks for the input, fran.
ok everybody, the NY jam starts in 2 weeks and one day. time to start planning!
General Information For BSC Members Attending the NY Jam
Confirmed Attending:
-Pete "hello mr. toilet, i am the shit!" Bowler
-Dank "the dank, tank, tank" Tank "tank"
-The J-Var (will only be there....sunday? saturday? i dont remember, one or the other)
chris is still a possible. i think i will call him presently.....
and im back. he STILL hasnt asked his mom. wow. which spells mom upside-down.
aright, time for more information thrown your way. dont take any of this as me being cocky or telling you shit you already know, im mostly putting this down for my own benefit so i dont forget anything and have the illest time possible.
Recommended Stuff to Bring
money (for-)
-food
-unexpected transportation (taxi, subway, etc)
-footbags
-smokables
at least 2 pairs of shorts
at least 1 sweat towel
stuff to do on the bus
something to use as a pillow (especially if you have trouble sleeping on floors, etc)
dutches.
Bus Information
at the very least me and doug are taking the fung wah bus from south station sometime between 3 and 5 PM. it costs 31.50 for a round trip ticket. i think i might buy my ticket probably like a week in advance, just to be sure. the bus ride takes approx. 4 hours, but its likely to take longer in friday afternoon traffic... what is the earliest you could leave, dank, chris, and/or fran on friday, because im sure my boss would let me off at whatever time i need to leave by. so just post or pm me and tell me what the ideal ealiest time you could leave friday. also post or pm what time you want/need to leave by on sunday on the way back. i figure sometime between 1:00 and 7:00 pm. so post or pm and let me know.
Things to remember While at the Jam:
dont push yourself too hard the first day or two. save a little shred for sunday. playing footbag for about 6-8 hours in two days is actually a little harder than it sounds.
this will give you more time for other stuff like:
make time to introduce yourself to as many people as possible. rep the bean, yo! tell everyone what crew you're in
stay fucking hydrated. its going to be chilly there, almost guranteed, but you're still going to sweat. drink lots of fluids.
no need to get shitfaced at the party. you'll regret it the next day when everyone else is shredding and you're puking. someone remind me of this at the party. haha.
important-
1. remember guys, its less acceptable to self-serve at a jam. dont be the biggest self-server in your circle. when in doubt, pass. there'll be plenty of time to kick all weekend, it will make you look a lot better if you pass after your first drop.
2. dont join a circle that already has 5 or more people unless invited to do so. instead, walk up and ask if the circle wouldnt mind splitting into two circles, or kick by yourself nearby until someone joins you. believe me, they will.
again, these are just general reminders for myself as well as anyone else who reads them. i've only been to two tournies myself so im still a newb in that area, but i definitely like the idea of us representing the shred crew in the best possible light we can.
will update with more later.

word. When you guys know when you'll be arriving we'll have to PM to exchange cell numbers. I'm pretty much clear myself for the trip up - no real work due. So I'll be getting up there pretty early I think. I'm really looking forward to meeting you guys. This blog is hilarious. Peace.

Those guys so sound like typical Boston/Dorchester people. I cracked up reading that story.slapdash21 wrote: "oh-uh, that must have been me, i kicked that fuckin door earlier in the dark and it moved some."

kicky bag tomorrow, northeastern, after 5, dank, fran, chris? i'll probably only be able to play until about 7:30. and i mean i'll have to be biking away at 7:30.
but thats ok anyway, because now is like the ideal time to rest for the NY jam. why? because its essentially a fucking week away!!! so everyone who is going take everything a little easier for the next week. we should have 2-3 more "group" sessions before next friday. say like tomorrow, saturday, and next wednesday. or whatever.
