My name is Chase Card-Burns
A little about me: I'm from Orono, ME. I kicked forever, but didn't explore footbag until June/July of 07. I always knew there were guys that played with all stalls and such but only recently searched Youtube, and tried to teach myself.
I started stitching some time in August, around the same time I met up with Adam Sitarski, and then Jon MacCormic (sp??) and Jon Kasteline (sp??). I could hardly do a ss clipper before I started playing with these guys. Now i'm doing pixies, atomics, stepping, ducking...

Yeah i remember what it was like when i saw my first shred video. But unlike most people i knew then i didn't shy away from the sport because i thought "Oh man i can never do that" Instead i looked at the shredders, and learned about the tricks, and looked at the form. To me footbag is a beautiful sport that combines technical skill and stylistic agility. It's like a dance, except a thousand times cooler. It's cool that you've only been playing seriously for such a short time, and already you got atomic and stepping sets. What tricks can you do out of them? I can't really give you any advice on higher level tricks, I'm a tiltless player myself (for now) but i can look at what you got, and help with whatever i think i can. Cya around.

So i have been on the road for a little over two weeks now. For those who don't know. I have been traveling across country meeting up with footbaggers along the way.

Right now i'm trapped in Sidney, NE for a couple days due to a leaking tranny. So this is a perfect opportunity to write a bit about my journey.
My first stop was New York. There I kicked with Drew, Bruce, Katiana, Waylon, Barrett, and a few other guys who's names i can't remember. For the first time I felt confident calling myself a tiltless player. All my 2s were fairly solid on both sides. My string length started getting over 10 on a nice basis.
Riz met up with us at the end and we all went to get Thai food.
Next I was in DC. Let me take this opportunity to send a big shout out to the creators of Tomtom. This was the best $200 I ever spent. There is no way i would have found my way around these cities without it. DC was way worse driving than NY.
Adrienne, Chris, and someone else (sorry, bad with names) met up and we kicked at the University of Maryland, the next day I saw a few sites in DC, Washington Monument, Lincoln memorial, WWII Memorial, and the Holocaust Museum. After, Chris and I met up and kicked on the Lincoln Memorial overlooking the Washington Monument. I got a bit of footage. Someday I'll make a video with it. After we got Sushi, and then went to a fabric store in Virginia where they had a huge selection of Ultrasuede Light. I spent like $100 on fabric, it was so worth it.
Adrienne was an awesome host. Chris helped me find where I parked my van before it got towed.
the following day I was able to get in touch with my Uncle in Virginia. I hadn't seen him in probably 5 years. He has 6 kids, and they were all too young to really talk to back then, it was cool to meet all his children for the first time.
The next day I drove to my fathers house in WV. I hadn't seen him in over a year, and he had no idea i was even driving across country. I was hiding in the spare bedroom when he came home from work. Made him cry and everything. We went to a local fabric store and they had one spool of ultrasuede light, it was a kind of Midnight Blue i think. I'm a bit colorblind, so it's hard for me to tell these things. I also refined my stitching even more and I think my bags are right where I want them now.
the Knoxville Jam was the following destination. I pulled my van into the parking garage right next to Market sq. and I hit the 7ft clearance marker... I had about 2 inches of clearance the whole way through, so nerve racking...
The Jam was kickass. Right when i showed up, before i even had a chance to warm up, a news reporter put a microphone on me and started filming. I was on the news.

Along with the Knoxville guys I also met Holly and Brian. Holly traded a bag with me, very clean stitching, and quick break in. We kicked for like 8 hours. I had originally wanted to get a drink or something after, but when I got to my van I passed out in seconds. The next morning, Matt met up with me, we kicked, I showed him some yoga I find very beneficial to footbag, and then Cody showed up to shred some more. This second session may have been a bad idea for me. My knees are still pretty sore.
After Knoxville I stayed in Cincinnati with a friend from college for a couple days. I went to my first White Castle. (check my avatar for details...)
Finally i made it to Chicago. Tom and Josh met up. The best form I had seen in a while. Tom gave me some pointers on toe drifters and they are looking far better. Thanks to Josh I also hit rev whirl rake, and osis stepping ripwalk on my flip for the first time. Josh traded a bag with me, very nice bag, breakin took no time.
The following day we met up at Lane Tech and Zeke also showed. I played 4 square for the first time. That night I chilled with Zeke and Reiley. Had my first true Chicago style stuffed pizza and watched a bunch of old school videos.
That brings us to the present. Stuck in a crappy Motel in the middle of the prairie.

So I'm still in Sidney, NE. But I should be leaving today, thank god.
Last night I went to the local bar to get a burger and the whole bar was full. Then right behind me I saw the mechanic sit down, I said hello, he offered me a seat. 6 pitchers of Red Beer later, I'm hungover... Damn nice people in this town, a little red neck, but that's cool.
I have been so bored, and I have had to force myself not to drill to make sure my knees don't get fucked. I'm feeling better today though, and I need to work out this still buzzin from last night feeling.
P.S. For those of you who don't know what "Red Beer" is, it's Bud Light with Tomato juice, or bloody mix...

Tomorrow Lon and I are driving to Boise for a few days, and then to SJFF, I spent more time in Sydney, NE than i have in my new place, so it's like my Footbag across the country trip isn't quite over...
So I've hit a lot of tricks, and can bust a lot of them mid string, but I'm now focusing on the fundamentals of guiltless. The area I have to play in at my new place is a bit small, so it forces me to develop better control.
Yesterday I did 10 osis', 6 or 7 b2b butterflys, and butterfly>osis>butterfly>butterfly>osis>butterfly, all in a relative 4'x6' area.
I'm not really traveling around the room so much anymore which is great, and my osis are pretty much in the same spot now.
Stitching has also been good. I have figured out some cool things with stitch spacing...
Now I'm off to look for a job. Restaurants in the area should be hiring soon.
