Leaky Bleedholes
Leaky Bleedholes
I've had extremely (sp?) leaky bleedholes that will jsut spill out my filler all over the place. I am exagerrating, but if i hand massage my bag for 5 seconds i'll have 5-10 lead balls in my hand. And the fact that leadshot is spilling and being spread out all over my house isn't the most comforting thing.
Does anyone know how i can fix this? New panel sizes? a certai n way to stitch?
I've tried larger hex sides than pents so there isn't a gap between the meeting place of 2 hex short sides but it still leaks. I've also tried going to as low as 10% hex short size and that still doesn't work. My current template sizes are .56 .8 20%

I got as far to the corner of each seam that i can, i'll try a little closer if possible. I just finished a bag and it only bled after i forced it out. Its improving but i won't be able to use my lead shot with it. im borrowing a friends size 8 steel shot. I have size 12 leadshot .050'' in diameter. Is the shot i have too small maybe?Erik Chan wrote:Do you stitch hex to hex?
I didn't know to do this for my first bunch of bags, and since doing this has made all the difference! If you are, then maybe try making that connection closer to the middle of that length of the hex?

Is this a new problem for you? Because the bag I have hasn't bled at all.
(It's awesome, by the way.)

Do you use very low gather? Cos i made a bag recently and under-gathered one of the pents accidently, so its bigger than the others. The hex-hex seams around this pent are looser and more prone to opening than others. Theres no leakage, but the holes are definitely looser.

Joe, the bag i sent to you doesn't have bleed holes. That bag was made when i didn't know bleedholes existed. Im glad you liked it.
I don't think its a gather problem either, I've experiemented with very low gather and very high gather and both of the times i've had the bag bleed and leak. Im going to make a bag tonight trying to keep the stitches as far off the the corner as i can.
If anyone is willing to give me the dimensions of a bag that will turn out golf-ball size and doesn't bleed, in your experience, could you post it here.
Thanks for everyone coments and advice.

my hexes have all even spacing, and they are all the same length... but i dont connect where the bleeds are supposed to be. the hex side stitches are sliiiightly longer than the pent side stitches. only slightly though.
im almost finished with that bag though, and the iphone girl left... but maybe ill post a picture when i start my next bag.
