Flexibility [FLX] Adds?

Talk about your big add moves and concepts in here.

What do you think about a flexibility [FLX] add component?

Good idea.

ADDS WERE NOT JUST MEANT TO DESCRIBE MOVES: THEY WERE INTENDED FOR DIFFICULTY! Damn that's been said too much.

Okay, I've heard the argument that since adds only describe *general* difficulty, the system shouldn't be fixed. How does that make any sense whatsoever? Since we have a system for describing *general* difficulty, why not make it a better system for describing *general* difficulty?

[quote="pedler"] i think that if adds are just ment to describe a move......
-But if you do want adds to represent how difficult a move is...../quote]

i dont know if that was directed at me or not, but im just implying where things might go with the system either way it could go in the future.

Oh yeah! I stuck my tongue out while doing it! That was so much fun.

As for the topic, um....right. Some of it has been said before, but here are my thoughts on the add system and difficulty.

1. Adds do not perfectly measure/reflect difficulty.
2. I personally think it is impossible to measure something as subjective as difficulty in footbag.
3. In general, when a move involves more components, it becomes more difficult. While this is true, the number of components in a trick are not the only thing that affect its difficulty.
4. The add system does a good job of counting components.
5. The add system without x-dex can serve as a very, very rough gage of trick difficulty, but it doesn`t take into account `windows,` like the difficulty of atom smasher due to the small window after the set.
6. X-dex does a good job of identifying when a move has a smaller window of execution.
7. When x-dex and adds are combined, it actually serves as decent gage of trick difficulty, but obviously isn`t perfect.
8. In my personal experience, adds only matter to me in Shred 30 contests, which I participate in at most once or twice a year, and as the name indicates, only lasts about 30 seconds anyway. That`s about less than a minute per year.
9. When I enter a shred 30 contest, I am aware I am playing a game with certain rules (namely, the shred formula). I know these rules, and adds do not perfectly describe difficulty, but Shred 30 can be a good show for the spectators, so I enter it and hope to win.
10. In a circle with players who understand freestyle, people know what is cool, and what they don`t like. They know what moves are hard for them to execute, and sometimes they know what moves are hard for you to execute. If I saw Ryan Mulroney hit flipside mobius, I would give him lots of props, as I know it is not an easy trick for him. I might not give as many props to Lon or Vasek if I saw them hit the same trick. When I play with beginners, I`ve been known to give repeated high fives when somebody does a mirage, if it is hard for them.

When you first saw Clown Face, you knew it was cool, you knew it was hard. Maybe later you tried calculating the difficulty, but really, does an arbitrary number make it any less hard or any less cool?

Take from this post what you will.

Ken,

The shit you don't understand about freestyle concepts and difficulty could fill a freakin' warehouse.

My grandmother understands freestyle better than you, AND SHE'S DEAD!

Difficulty? You don't understand difficulty. No difficulty understander, you! I deride your difficulty understanding ability!

Take it, bitch...

How'd you ever earn a name like 'Outsider'?

Seems to me that you're a true diplomat.

dragons end on the outside surface of your foot.
plus since jon was the guy who pretty much brought every crazy dragon move into footbag, he 'could' be considered an outsider, cause he strays from the norm.

i think that is one of the most meaningful BAP names ever.

Flexibility

Post by Stofer »

I can barely do an outside stall infront of my support leg, and would concur that flexibility could be a factor. To be honest I have no idea what any of these moves are. and would love to know what your source is. I was sure that I had solid info, and you go and expose blatant holes in my knowledge.

- doof stall
- anchor
- monster

Ken Somolinos you have too many props but deserve more. When I was just getting started I found a shred clip of you on mid-west footbag, you started off with Leviathan and ended up cutting the bag to peices. Thanks for being a bad ass.

*20 Props to Jonathan Schneider for being my personal idol and greatest influence, and look forward to kicking with you some day.

Normaly I try to say somthing inteligent when I post but on this occasion I just wanted to drop mad props on the Outsider.

Thanks Stofer,

Come to the Colorado Shred Symposium 5 this winter. I'll be there this time.

As for Anchor, you can see one at www.Philly-Footworks.com . There's a video titled "Jon Push-ups" or something. The Anchor is that cross-body outside surface stalled above my head.
