Alright.
Sam, I know I mentioned I would comment in depth on the video. There's so much to cover, so I'll try to do like, 3 points for each section. Here goes:
Intro
- I found the narrated voices completely off the wall, lighthearted and hilarious. Never heard anything like that in a footbag vid before. Well done.
- The succession of title screens are really trippy and I still don't fully understand them
. I thought the video could've started off with a bang even sooner, but you made it work.
- I really liked the sense of community in the intro, like showing the people walking and laughing and hanging out. Makes it look like if someone wanted to take up the sport they wouldn't be isolated or alone.
- The narrated intro to footbag w/ the Indian guy was great. Covered basically everything. Props.
Shred 1:
- Way to capture the atmosphere first instead of simply diving into the shred.
- Great song.
- The lower body shots really worked well here and the bag can be followed easily. The zooms do make the shot more engaging.
Interviews 1:
- Haha that robot thing was priceless. Didn't realize it dragged out for that long, which made it funnier.
- Good mix of players. Dave's interview was entertaining (stolen shout out lol). I crack up every time I watch Dave interviewing you. You look like a turtle in hiding. The Tina answer cracks me up every time.
- I thought Zach's interview was a little long and could've been condensed considerably. There were numerous times when neither of you were talking.
Balloon Fight:
- This has been mentioned a few times, but for me this is the most unnecessarily drawn out part of the video. I think maybe one minute of preparation (filling the balloons etc.) and one minute of the best highlights put to a pumpin song would have done the justice. The psychadelic (sp?) aspect made everything really difficult to see.
In the Car/On the Back:
- To me this is one of the most enjoyable parts of the video. That car ride was non stop laughs -- wish I coulda been there. The perfect mix of beatboxing intertwined with lame jokes and dangerous driving make this section a gem imo. The pop up pictures are the greatest inserts I've ever seen in a video. Nearly died the first time seeing those.
- On the Back Shred: brilliant. I've heard Regamey take funny sayings and make remixes, but never this funny. Especially Nice mix of (creative!) tricks and players. The 2nd wave of tricks is the best!!
Sam, Stephen and the Ladies:
- The Sam part is pretty funny, but pale in comparison to a lot of the other stuff in WTS.
- Mixed feelings about the Barnes section. Maybe that coulda been left out to be more respectful and less embarassing for certain people.
- Women Shred: for me this was a really clever inclusion and a great juxtaposition to the rest of the video. Good music choice -- I'm a fan of Flyleaf. I like how the song portrays some of the anger the women feel as players in a male-dominated sport. Really smooth styles and some killer tricks for sure!
Little Tidbits:
- Stuff like this is what gives WTS its distinct flavour imo. All these little clips are short and have some sort of punchline at the end. Awesome.
Static-X:
- Haha, my musical presence alone made Aaron fuck up.
Sweet montage. I think this clip could fare well on its own on YouTube. It sums up the lifestyle of the hardcore footbagger pretty well. Some of those tricks were downright nasty. I thought maybe Jim's and Evan's runs were a bit too average for them and didn't stay with the pace of the song.
Byrin and Insoles:
- I thought the Byrin interview was really interesting and a great inclusion to the video. He has a really great mindset for footbag.
- The insole thing I thought was stupid and coulda been left out.
Dad:
- Awesome. Thank you. I'll show him that.
Mirken and Garage 4-Square:
- Mirken thing was funny but a bit too long. It's not too bad though cuz every time Mirken opens his mouth he cracks me up.
- Garage 4-Square: meh. Didn't do it for me. Seemed a bit aimless at times, especially since all your other clips had 'punchlines' or sentimental values.
9-Square:
- Yeeeeaah. Now that was memorable. Thanks for capturing it. Props on getting so far in the King Square.
BAP Ceremony:
- Long, but well worth it. We all know why.
- The end montage is a great gem and a keepsake Dave will probably hold onto for many many years.
DC Sleeps:
- Shit. He rocked the shred and you rocked the editing. Some of your best work here for sure. This is what a player feature should look like in a video. The song speaks for itself. Maybe I should get injured so I can play like that.
- Maybe the best clip in all of WTS. The most memorable for sure at least.
Smiles, End Dave & Last Trick:
- Yay. Smiles, everyone likes smiles. Nice.
- End Dave: great wrap-up to a great vid. It's only fitting the star of the video closes the video.
- Thanks for including me in your ending. Too funny. The attempt was spinning marius ftr. This video confirms people talk about me when I'm not around. Cool.
Outro:
- Strange, brilliant, totally you. Loved it.
Congratulations Sam. You've got my vote for Video of the Year 2007.
Cheers,
JM

I can't tell you how much this means to me. I simply have no words to adequitly thank you for what you just wrote. All I can say is Thank you! I realized long ago I didn't make videos for money, but to make other people happy, and clearly parts of the video made you happy.

Hey Sam just got to watch some parts of this (im supposed to be writing a history essay which you have successfully distracted me from
), really enjoyed what ive seen so far, as much as i like making and watching short, hard-hitting, mental shred videos, the Video scene in footbag wouldnt be complete without longer, interview-and-randomness-laden videos like this. They are especially suited to Worlds too, to capture the whole atmosphere etc.
Great job with the interviewing and i enjoyed the shred filming style with the closeups, although at some points i thought it was maybe tooo much... but it adds to the intensity nicely.
The Clavens section was really awesome, i mean i dont even know him personally but i felt the kind of electricity in the air in some way, like what it must feel to have that big buildup and then have your name read out. You did a sweet job delivering it.
For the record i too have mixed feelings about the the Barnes/Girls bit but its been said.
Great stuff what ive seen so far, thanks heaps for going to all the trouble of making this video!
