My First Pair of (how to) Leather Mod Rod Laver

Hey, I had these for months before I saw that you could modify leather Rods. I got these off of eBay cheap!

I looked for topic on how to modify leather Lavers and could not find anything. So I decided to make one myself. I have done a few of the Rod Lavers with the mesh but not the leather ones. So what the Hell we will do this together.

Things you will need:
Sharp knife (I like the X-acto Knife)
Flathead scewdriver (or a spoon something to separate the leather from the canvas)
A pair of Lavers

First cut the stitching that hold the toe box down (I really did this way before the picture was taken.)

Then you will want to start by the ankle and trace a guide line with the knife around the part of the shoe you want to take off.

After that pinch the leather in half and put little cuts in it until you can see the canvas. Be careful not to cut the canvas when you are doing this.

Then with your finger and the screwdriver (or spoon) separate the leather from the canvas. Be careful with this too.

Then just follow your guide lines and cut the leather off. This was not that hard to do. It was harder on my mesh lavers.

Then just repeat the otherside of the shoe.

If you want you can take out the padding on the inside on the tongue of the shoe too.

Well do that to the other shoe and lace them up. Then you got yourself a nice pair of Mod Rod!!!!!

i have recently modded a few pairs of ilie nastase shoes, which is pretty much the same as leather lavers, except you have to cut off stripes. anyway, when doing the toe, I found that, on the space where one should make a cut between the tongue and the toe delay surface, I was able to shove a butter knife between the two different surfaces (leather and under-surface cotton). then, upon following the guide that that knife provided, I was able to mod a leather toe surface faster than ever before.

Still not bad for my first try. I Still can't give up my old Rods. I think I'm going to try and sell these. If any one wants a US 9 Leather Mod Rods. Let me know.

Ah, I wasn't criticizing your technique, just chiming in...

I didn't say before, so I will now: looks like you did a great job on these, really clean. any holes or cuts through? looks good.

When I was modding my lavers (mesh) I used closed scissors where you used a screwdriver then used them to cut out the canvas.
