just purchased some new FABRIC for my knitting operation. Black and ZEBRA. Yeah, I'm jumping on the animal patch wagon. I was going to get snake skin but I'm not sure if that looks as sweet as it does in the swatch.

other than that I didn't get much done in the way of footbag. It was a really busy day and I wished I could've played a bit. Weather was great. My legs are feeling a bit off. Definitely shreddable, but still a little meh. Like when I've been sitting for a really long time and then get up the joints are a little "pangy" (if such a word can be summoned) . I'm trying to use what time I have left before NYCJ to really just solidify my shuffle and gyro. I'm not going to try and hit anything new till the jam. No time. And well that's not really what I do anyway  . Man I'm looking back on that marius and it just sends shivers down my spine when I think of how perfect the spin was and how easily I spotted and attacked the dex. It was there. Ugh. Marius. That'd be probably dream move #8 for me to be hit. What are the rest? Well I thought about it last night. This is in ascending order from when I first started playing freestyle:

THE DREAM MOVE LIST!!!!!!!!
1) far legover - this was the shit when I realized this was a possibility. A funny story goes along with the day I attempted this but I won't talk about that here.
2) datw. Still remember the day I hit it with the RFA.
3) ripwalk. another fun little story.
4) torque. hit at a Greek Festival with Greg Pestillo.
5) matador.
6) barfly
7) phoenix
8)

some other dream moves I have are:
twirl
leviathan
superfly
janiwalker and sunilwalk
riptide and ripcurl

I could potentially hit twirl and riptide and curl pretty much right now if I had my shoes on and time enough to work on them. They're not that hard at all really and I just have never seriously worked at it.

some dream sets? Yeah I'll do that to while I'm already procrastinating:
phasing
frantic
blazing (I actually have it already. . . but it's sooo low)

shit I just feel like talking footbag for a while with someone. I had a conversation with a friend of mine the other day about why Siena is so afraid of me and my footbaggery.

edit: Ugh. 20 pages. Damn I feel old.

just booked my ticket for the NYC Jamboree 8O 8) .

man I'm so glad I haven't played in two days  .

I think my new fabric is in the mail but I can't get to it because it's closed this weekend for some reason. . . other than the fact that it's the weekend. It wasn't even open on Friday.
- - I'm going to stitch using floss. I found the upholstery thread but I read that the bags tend to break in a bit faster with floss.

I've been playing a lot of old video games lately. Ninja Gaiden, Contra, FFI, One of the Ninja Turtles for Sega Gen, Golden Axe, and some others. They're so much harder than games today. I suck massively at Halo but with every ounce of honesty I have I can say that it is at LEAST a billion times easer to clear the first level of Halo 3 than the first (and second) levels of Kid Icarus. I tell ya game designers did us wrong by making our characters have unrealistic health bars.

a guy I met through another friend saw me after dinner tonight and told me he heard I was giving up more or less entirely on the Siena campus for people to hack with me. And he said he used to play a lot and would join me. But I go, "Yeah man well you can find me all over. I play pretty much every day in all sorts of spots all around campus." and he goes (when I said every day) "Really?" honestly surprised. Soo yeah. I can sense by what little I know of him he wouldn't be able to stick with footbag. But whatever. I told him to find me and we'd play. See how that goes. But I had to laugh when we were walking out talking about this and I go, "Yeah well we were wondering why people here just don't want to ever play." the guy goes. "Intimidated?" and I go "Yeah. . that's usually part of it" and then my friend Jason blurts out "Because these people are too fucking preppy here!" and I chuckled. Yup. Siena. I'm really so glad I managed to TRANSFER here. That's right, kids. I transfered from a shitty ass school to ANOTHER shitt(ier??)y ass school.

:P I'm dying a little every day. :P

 sorry. I'm not even all that pissed off anymore. Just wanted to rant for a second. Soo Footbag! WOOOOO!

two new colors for bags. Black and zebra. I've got a paper due tomorrow and a test the morning I leave for NYC but one of these days, probably tomorrow, I'll probably crank out a bag. I'd like to get another done before the competition. And then start one on the train over so I have something to work with.

broken 2 hr session after 2-day break. Felt real good. Played so-so. Stretched lots, drank lots, drilled lots.

double dexes were alright and I hit flip paradon again midstring which was cool. For those of you meeting me at NYC Jam don't expect me to be throwing out too many double dexes. Or better yet. You won't see me doing them unless you TELL me to do them. So please. For the betterment of my own progress. TELL ME TO DO THEM!!!

oh oh oh check this out. K so I like to follow the trends of people around my skill level. So I surf the new strings and moves sections and some blogs and get some ideas for stuff I need to start doing. So anyway, motor is something that's been going around. Doug and Paul have been doing them lately and so I tried my hand at them. No dice. After about 6 minutes I gave up but on the last attempt I kind of did a lazy flick of my foot that would've come and delayed it on the inside. What ended up happening was that I almost did a reverse guay. So gyro whirling reverse guay. Yeah well this was so close that I just kept at it for the longest time to try and nail it. Footed it a few times but nothing was solidly done. So I gave up

I was skooling my eggbeaters some more and was hitting them pretty consistently so I decided to try pigbeater. Got it. New trick.

all of my atomics were really high and clean and I should have been working more at rubberman. Whatever. To be honest with - you I feel just as comfortable saying that I can do a number of atomic tricks midstring linked by a variety of things as I would if I could say I've done rubberman. Grant it, doing rubberman kind of announces you have a sort of mastery of atomic > atomic shuffle that I am nowhere near. So that's why I can't say I can do rubberman. And that's why I should drill more doing things like tap > atomsmasher rpt. (which I still can't do)

stepping mixed with DLOs were everywhere in my combos today. Both from clipper and toe

ducking was dialed today and I did a bunch of SD clippers bsos.

man for someone who claims to focus more on linking tricks rather than busting huge short combos I really can't do a whole hell of a lot right now. Huh. I've been able to do atomic set both sides for well over a year. And I've been able to hit blur on both sides after the first 7 or 8 months of playing. Still no rubberman? :? is it just me or is there something very wrong with that? Just doesn't seem to fit any kind of puzzle. Jesus, I'm not getting any younger. I'd better get my shit together and get some things dialed quick in this game or else.

I have shin splints  - but more on this after I write for a bit

my brain was completely fried today after classes and registering for classes so I couldn't do homework. So I've been making the rounds to all the sites I go to - modified is always my last stop. So for the sake of boredom here is my post.

I can't wait for Friday. I have such huge expectations for this weekend it's not even funny. Meeting the BSC has been my goal now for at least 5 :arrow:months now and I finally get to meet some of them! And I haven't played with Pascal since kickass I. He was a nice guy so I'd like to hack with him. He'll mix me in with the rest of the NYFA I've never met before.

I've been very sneaky and clever the past two weeks and have found ways of scrounging up a hundred dollars. And by sneaky and clever I mean I took up two very temporary jobs, catered for a conference on campus and doing this fundraiser thing for Student Activities. And I have been acting Taxi Driver for a very rich and generous friend of mine. So there ya have it. That takes care of my travel costs right there. Now I just need to pay the $25 for entry, food, maybe a footbag  .

I played a bit yesterday before my shins got swollen with my roommate, surprisingly, and had a descent session. I've been going real slowly and not pushing myself too much so I can play a lot at the jam, but I was really satisfied with everything. I pretty much went through every concept and set I know and systematically skooled them. Everything except pixie ducking was working well.

These aren't records, by any means. I was just dishing them out with hand catches or repeating them. These are nearly accurate numbers. It was yesterday, mind you. I counted only really for my pixie and fairy stuff since my toe game is my weakest part. Just thought I'd share what I can do on a random day. Wasn't playing 100%, wasn't playing bad at all at the same time.
pixie -
30/30 parkwalks strong. 20/30 flip
28/30 smears strong. 19/30 smears I had to take a break on my flipside
30/30 smudges strong. . . kind of forgot to do flipside. Hah.
4/5 smokes and one on my flip :?
4/6 pixie ss whirls
6 plo's back to back
6 magellans to hand catch. 3 flip. this was huge for me. I was so happy. My flip magellans are 30x harder than any other flip pixie trick I do. Not sure why.

 I was selective with my pixie set skooling because although I suck massively with my toe game I really didn't want to focus too much on pixie. It gets boring doing this when all I want to do is shred anyway. I was very surprised I did this at all.

fairy-
I did a few fears and ss and opp butterflys over and over. Didn't drop. One sided. Sucks. I long for fairy set on my flipside.

well this is probably incredibly boring for you all to read so I'll stop there.
I did a bunch of flipside stepping and tried to not do any strongside in my strings. It worked out and it helped my flip stepping ss mirages a lot. I was a little shaky on those before. But not I can pixie and fairy and atomic out of them.
 worked nuclear for a little bit but I felt a weird pop in my ankle (I kind of relax my ankle and let it point the toes down, but allow it to flop a little)
 atomic is getting higher and higher. I reworked it a little. Again.
 hit slapping legover and pickup first time. Pretty easy. Rehit slapdown and a really shitty couple of tripwalks. Ugh quantum.
 looooong ducking and gyro strings. I should stop relying on ducking and spinny things.

so yeah I have shin splints. I had to sprint back to my room in the middle of class to get an assignment in my vans. Vans suck for running. And I was slapping down hard on the pavement. So it shocked my legs a little and now they hurt a little. But I'm on the case and with all the luck I deserve I won't be hindered come friday/saturday. And if I AM still in pain well then I'll just play through it. Because there's nothing getting in my way from playing in NYC. Nothing.

peace.

sorry for the short post frequency. Had a quick 1 hr "can I still play with minor shin splints?" session. Had a LOT of fun.

 blurry whirl bsos 8O I do this both sides but rarely ever manage in one string. So this was big for me. Not sure how deep they were, though.
 barfly 4 times on one side!
 barfly, datw, paradon, and terrage all in one string 8O
 vertigo again
 gyro toe > gyro toe
 pixie ss reverse whirl > far reverse whirl > far symposium reverse whirl  > spinning clipper > ducking butter > spinning pdx mirage > hand catch

so yes. I can play with shin splints. Should I? Probably not. But they're almost gone and probably by tomorrow afternoon they'll be considered minor annoyances rather than actual pangs of ow-ness.

I'm going to study for an Astronomy Test, read shit tons, and then pack up for NYC tomorrow! I'm so happy I'm taking a train instead of driving. It's going to be so relaxed and stress-free for me.

Barrett is the man. Can't wait to meet him.

the jam in NYC was excellent. Not by any means a personal victory for footbag with me, but as a whole this was my favorite jam yet. Met LOTS of new people. Played with almost everyone there at least once.

a summary to some great length:

Friday -
Got in waaay too early. In hindsight I definitely didn't have to skip those two afternoon classes to go to this. But oh well. It's what I do.
So I get there around 3:45. Call Barrett. He and I struggle with finding out where I am for a little bit and then I finally meet up with him. He's wearing a t-shirt, an undershirt even. So he was pretty cold. We get up to his dorm and I meet Waylon and Benny and Jorden had been there. I was kind of ready to play so Jorden and I had a little session where we were pretty much just goofing around. I didn't want to wear myself out so I wasn't doing anything more than spins or ducks or BOPs. And Jorden was juggling and doing strange showman tricks.

Now this is getting too long. Time to speed things up. ARROW TIME!
 Waylon and I made all the player bags and put all the shirts in them.
 we ate some chocolate croissant cinnibun things. Yum.
 made our way to the first night shred spot. It was pretty sweet. We had lots of candy.
 Waylon showed me his stitching book. Yeah, that's right. I gots the inside scoop.
 I believe the correct term for what happened next for the next hour + was "hacky slacking to the max". Lots of fun. Circle kicking with Jorden, Timo (sp?), Waylon, and Brian (my crash host). And I showed them all my drunken style of circle hack. That was fun. Wore my legs down even more. By this point I knew in my head that as soon as I focused on shred I wouldn't be able to do it. Too tired.
 stitched a little with floss.
 BSC came in. Time to shred. Oh wait. Shit. I'm spent. Time to eat more marshmellows and twix. Oh is that Mountain Dew? Sweet.
 went back to Brian's house somewhere far away, played guitar hero and wii sports and went to bed. Doug's eye veins kept popping according to him. We don't believe him, though.

Saturday -
 first to make it to the MANDATORY 9 o'clock players meeting, whatever the fuck that was. Whatever. Started playing as people were setting things up. It was by far the most professional footbag setup I've ever seen except in videos of Worlds and whatnot.
 playing like shit. But this was true for Friday too. I'd be surprised if I got more than 10 contacts all weekend. Meh. As Sunil Jani said, "Are you having fun!?!" "Yes." "THEN THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS!!" but I already knew that. At the end of the session with Jorden I was more or less happy with the fact that I won't play well. I'll just be having a great time anyway. Which I did. Can't let fluke shortcomings get in the way, right? RIGHT!
 met and played with Chris Miller. He hit whale tail.
 it was ridiculously cold. I lost track of how much I drank. Two cups of coffee? Ugh. that's bad. But it really had no good effect on me. It got cold really fast and the caffeine seemed to bounce right off me. Fucking Starbucks. Steal my money and I can't play footbag still!
 the dinner was excellent. Sat at a table with Waylon, WDigges, Pete Bowler, Doug Tank, and the extra seat was occasionally filled by Dave Clavens, Barrett, Brian, Matt Cross at one point, and um. . I can't remember who else. The waffle fries made me happy.
 went to this really "chill" studio apartment and pretty much played non-stop for ANOTHER like. . 4 or 5 hours. Insane.
 Drank a lot of NYC tap water. That could be why I still feel like shit today and I'm sick now.
 oh oh um. A little trick called CLOWNFACE was hit by Sunil. Right the fuck in front of me! Bowler and I fell about the place. Couldn't believe it. One of those things you never think you'll see in real life.

Unfortunately I had to leave quite a bit earlier than anyone else Sunday and didn't get to shred yesterday. Sucks. But it was a pretty stress free ride back to Siena and I was about ready to pass out the entire time. Had dinner, listened to my friends talk about something not related to footbag, and then I slept for 12 hours.

So at the end of all things I'd like to thank Barrett for putting on this little hacky sack get together. Thanks to Dave Clavens for giving me some tips on style, body movement considerations, barfly tips, and remembering who I was!!! That was awesome. And thanks to Matt Cross for giving me some help on what I need to get solid quantum sets.

I'm taking the next few days off from shred so that I can catch up with work, see where this sickness is leading, and um. Well just because I played nearly non stop while I was there. Even if I was playing shitty that still counts for something!

Hey man! I had a sick time this weekend and I hope everything was cool for you guys. I know you were gettin pretty frustrated with the shred, but shit happens. I was gonna say something about how I think your clippers are a little low (and maybe thats why you were getting more roll off than usual?) but I didn't for whatever reason. I just remembered so I thought I'd drop that one in before I forget.

I think Doug set the world record for the most laughing without any real audible words or coherent sentences. Unless "the cars" counts, haha.

I almost lost my shit when Sunil hit that clownface when we were standing like 10 feet away. I almost wanted to rewind it and slow mo it seemed so surreal. Plus I drank a lot of scotch.

I know that us nyfa folk did our best to accommodate everyone this weekend, so I hope it was kick ass for you. Peacee

Hey I forgot to thank you in my last post! It was so cool of you to let us crash in your apartment. Tell your roommate I said thanks too. When I was walking out the door that morning I told him but say it again for me. It helped me a lot to know I could just go to NYC and not worry about where I was going at the end of the days. Hope I wasn't too much of a jerk!

 I know man about Sunil! I went to the bathroom, came back, and noticed a few new people and I looked and was thinking to myself huh. this guy 2 feet in front of me kind of looks like Sunil Jani from behind. Man. His style is just like Sunil's. Hey Pete, is that - ? Yes. . yes it is. 8O 8O and then yeah he hit clownface second try. I've always thought that footbag tricks should cause shockwaves depending on how big of a trick it is. Everyone in the room would've been knocked the fuck down and that huge mirror on the wall would've shattered in awesome dramatic fashion.

and um. When Dave hit 13 superflies in a row that whole complex would've fallen down. And the Earth would've stopped. And Vasek would feel a great disturbance in the footbag realm.

my favorite Doug quote besides "The cars. .. " was definitely about that basketball story about Yao and that other dude but then Doug just goes "The pig? That's a terrible nickname!" something about the year of the pig and basketball and - well I can't remember exactly what it was all about.

my clippers are low? Huh. Well I'm going to see if I can play a little today in a bit because the weather's really nice and I'm done with homework (for now). So I'll check them things out. It's very possible that my flip butter catches really low. But it may also have just been my whole attitude about shred after the first night. I didn't really care all that much until the last maybe hour or so of Saturday Night when Matt and Dave were giving me tips and I was kind of getting an energy boost from the circle I was in: Pete, Doug, and Ian. Really cool vibe coming from that. We were like the last people shredding.

I'm looking forward to the next few weeks of shred in general because of this jam. It's given me a lot to think about and it'll be interesting to see what kind of improvements I can make in light of them.

STITCHING -
I'm redoing part of the black/green bag I started at the jam. I'm not sure if I'm going to do some of the techniques I learned from Waylon because I'm not sure exactly how to do them. I'd need to stitch next to him and actually see what it is he's doing - not just look at a sketch in his holy book of Stitchings. But it's coming out nicely so far. I'm stitching much further from the edge this time so it'll come out a bit smaller than the massive POS that I occasionally skool eggbeaters with. And so far the gather looks good. I'm using about as much as I saw Waylon using in the bag he was stitching for Ian (I think it was for Ian. Not sure.)

In Closing -
Yeah I've gotta run. Gotta check my mail box and see a teacher about getting into an advanced writing class  . But FIRST! I must check to see what news my Wii has for me. Its soothing glow is telling me Nintendo has sent me a message from over the world wide interweb.

EDIT:: : :
Yeah when the passes through my leg for a butterfly it's pretty low when it's caught. It's a style thing. I just need to hop a little over the bag a bit more or exaggerate the butterdex I thinkl Otherwise I don't think I have the same problem when it's just clipper. Buuut I could be wrong. I need a camera. Or a shred partner.

I did a few more pents of my bag. This is going to be a very small bag, I'll tell ya! Not sure how I feel about that. I like small bags. But it'll be worthless to me if it doesn't break in and get soft and a tad bit floppy. I like them small, heavy, and just a little bit of flop.

It may be just preference, but I was told that my clippers were too low and that I should point my knee out slightly more which will flatten your foot. It's mostly style but I think it could help.

Dude, my eye veins did pop! It was not cool. All I could picture was that episode of South Park where at the end, something happens to Cartman and his left eye just suddenly turns pink. Thats what I thought happened to me! It was rather traumatic really, and all you guys could do was just laugh.... bastards. :P

not like we didn't believe you, Doug. I mean you can't make that stuff up! Our minds were otherwise indisposed  watching nascar and such.

oh and just as a quick note for this here online log, fairy ss mirage is perhaps the coolest feeling guiltless trick I've come across . . just now. And let it be known here and now that it will be worked into my game henceforthwith in accordance with my liking it so much. Phase I of me being a fairy set player has commenced. And I'll start drilling it and getting my legs to remember it later today after classes. 8) peace.

lots more. 2 hr session with my roommate who's starting footbag. It was a lot of fun. Again I'm lapsing back into using caffeine before sessions. damn it.

. . . yo. had to cut my session a little short today because
 I have lots of reading to do
 floor hockey team came in and were cramping my style :x
 . . . I was tired

but still a good solid hour and 45 minutes. It was a good relaxed session, though I'm still doing what Dave said and I'm trying to attack dexes and be a LITTLE bit more intense when I play. It's the direction I was heading for the last month anyway.

I needed footbag today. Today has been kind of sucky and it left me a little upset that I still don't feel comfortable or "at home" here at college. But it may all be related to stress by a paper that's due next Tuesday. I rarely get stressed by school work and I'm probably just not used to how it feels. Whatever. Footbag helped. Got some things accomplished - listen up, foolz:

 diving clipper > pdx whirl bsos and then back to back. It's harder than I thought it'd be. I mean it doesn't SOUND all that hard but it is. For me. Yeah. Moving on.
 toe shuffling. magellan > plo rpt x 3. Yeah that's six contacts of a toe shuffling drill. Two things that are my weakness. I felt pretty damn good about it anyway. It was very controlled and the sets were almost always above my waist.
 some long tripless strings that usually began with blur. Usually pretty unique, too. Like I think I remember one of them being something like diving butterfly > blur > dimwalk > sidewalk > ripwalk > stepping ss osis > pdx whirl > steady bail to some kicks and a hand catch.
 I have a new favorite zulu trick and i think it was hit for the first time today. . . I think. Zulu mirage kicks ass. I sauced it. My flipside is really awkward and my strongside is more natural to me than weaving butterfly - which is in itself quite natural and flowy for me. So that's cool.
 spinning butter and spinning osis bsos'd all in one string.
 10+ guiltless relatively easy contacts > spinning pdx mirage > another 4 or 5 guiltless contacts. Yay.

k well I need to cut this entry short. Time to go eat some sushi with a friend of mine and drink some jasmine tea. And then I'm up late doing work :?

If you don't mind a stranger posting in your blog...

I don't think I felt comfortable at college until the last two months I was there (and I didn't give a shit anymore - nope, not one single shit). I think people who feel totally comfortable and happy at college, or just get through it without having their souls crushed, actually don't have souls.

Props on yo highlights - I like all those SS tricks & shuffle links. My fairy ss osis kinda bleeds into refraction, but I really like the trick either way.

:P hey wow thanks! No I don't mind at all. Look back 5 pages or so and all you see are these posts of mine telling other people to say something. . ANYTHING. Feels good to finally get some feedback.

Yeah I try not to let college get to me. It's just every so often I'll be coming back from class or whatnot and look around at everyone and it seems like they are having a much better time than I am. I'm having a fine time in my own respect but it's like I haven't left high school. College has been kind of empty or anti-climactic in a way. Aaand it's been quite a few years. I feel like I'm still a teenager. For the most part, this doesn't bother me. I have a very VERY strong urge to steer away from being what I call "grown up". It's not even that I'm "scared" to grow up. No, it's just I see what people are like when they forget how to have fun or use their imagination. They get lost in deadlines (which aren't all bad but . . everything in moderation, you see) and immediacy (cars. . . money. . ) and it really makes me sad more than anything. I wish they wouldn't do that to themselves. Just seems to make life a little less great as it actually tends to be. My friend Andrew and I often joke about how long it'll take before he and I will every "grow up" or "get class". As long as there's Nintendo and American politics, I doubt we will any time soon.

Grant it, life can suck pretty hard. But it's all taxes and death if you know what I mean. Inevitable. Everyone goes through it. It passes.

I'm taoist, by the way. Not sure if I've ever written that before in this blog. I was raised pretty stricted Roman Catholic, turned away from Church as soon as I left home, took a class on Eastern Religions, and found Taoism to be the perfect religious philosophy for me. It just clicks. I love it. I have like three copies of the Tao Te Ching that I pick up every now and then and more or less read through it front to back. If you guys don't know, it's just a thin little book of poems and proverbs which pretty much embody the philosophy of Lau Tsu (not sure if I spelled that right). He'd have liked footbag a lot I think.

Soooo enough of that. I'm going to take a quick shower, make a really late lunch, and head off campus for a while. I'm going to get the new Super Mario Galaxy game for wii :P :P :P 8) and I'll probably play some footbag while I'm out and about for a couple hours. I've been posting quite a bit of nonsense lately in this blog so unless I hit . . like. a new three dex or some insane combo I won't post about it for a few days.
