Colour suggestions [for stitching]

I have the most frustrating time trying to think of fun colour combos and patterns to keep up with the bags that I make. I often end up choosing something at the last minute, and I feel so bored of 2-colour soccer-ball pattern bags. Maybe other people feel the same way, and want suggestions from others (not just other stitchers!)
So here is a thread where you can name combos that you think would look neat or play well, or whatever.
Post ideas generously!!

im doing a bag right now thats midnight hexes, atlantis pents, and half pink and half purple spikes. spikes of varying length and colors helps keep stitching interesting for me. and also gives you more time to think about it because doing spikes adds almost an hour to the entire process, all told. a solid, one color bag with spikes all of a different color looks cool too.

and then there's obviously all the different designs. half and half bags, "flower" bags, etc.

the only bags i made that i play have white on them.

except this one

which is the choicest bag on earth. alot of footbag superstars really liked it, and it was shredded really hard at the first big circle at worlds oustide registration the first night. -at first i hated this bag. i had to fix 4 pents after i finished it the first time. it was horrible and i wanted to throw it in the garbage.

but fun patterns i do often are

trispinners

or blurs that are dual colored, against white

and then i do alot of soccerballs....

this one because its my choicest colorway, and similar to hollys lonn.

and pretty much soccerball or half and half spiked bags

so i do only a few dif patterns. i "own" alot of them, like

spiral (sorry bad pic)

and the regs like atomic, blur, bipolar, halfs, dadas, and others.

but i guess i like playing soccerballs the best. nothing too trippy when im trying to concentrate. good contrast is a must. complimentary colors is also a biggy for me.

Does anyone have a picture or tutorial or something explaining the spinner design better? I remember trying it a couple times, but then I got really pissed off because I didn't know what it was supposed to look like.

I guess I meant this more for colour combo suggestions, though Brian's post was insightful, even if I've seen all the bags before.

Grant: there is a thread dedicated just to patterns, and there are a bijillion photos posted there of tons of different patterns.

And now that there's a real green to use, a green and purple question mark bag would be killer. The Riddler.

The attempts I've made of this have never turned out superb because the green was never as vibrant as active green.

Maki bags are always pretty cute. Make a set of them. Avacado maki (light green), salmon maki (orange), tuna maki (colonial red), unagi maki (brown), and oshinko maki (yellow).

Thats one of the first bags I made,
I don't know if someone done that before, but it's like 1hex colour and 4pent colours(4red,4blue,2yellow,2orange)

I was just bored of 2colour bags

Hey Erik, as you are probably pretty aware, I LOVE the 10/10. It gives you three colours to work with. But I just thought of a nice variation on it. If you have enough colours, you could do a 10/10 blur, but make all the pents different colours! Oooh, that is my next bag after I finish my current order and finally get around to a trade bag for Mr. Savage.

Also, bags like Waylon's gobstopper-ish bags (the ones with the black pents) are pretty striking and there are many colour combo possibilities.

I think it was Brian Damatto, that picked colours form me that were active green, brown and pink! It looked great. Colours that sounded like they would look like crap turned out awesome.

What I like to do when i am not too sure about what combo to use for whatever pattern, is pick 1 colour I know for sure that I want to use, and place it beside all of my colours one by one. When I find an interesting contrast, I place the other one aside and continue. Then you can compare teh ones you picked with each other and the original.

Also, I like to use white like Brian. It is a good colour and goes with so many other colours.

Sorry that his post is not really helping you pick colours, but I think I gave a few ideas on how to choose them!

Another thing I used to do was pick two colours and cut out enough for two bags, but swith the pent colurs around. So a blue hex bag with orange pents, then an orange hex bag with blue pents. You could do this with burs as well and end of with triplets.

Pink and brown, red and splash blue, green and orange, tiara, brownstone and saffron, yellow and blue. Just some ideas.

Well, I wanted this thread to be helpful for other stitchers too, but I'll list my colours anyway. Like, I don't know what some of these are, even. I had to copy from my email thingies the exact names. I kind of more meant, like, "light blue and dark green" or something, y'know?

These colors will make a very buttery bag. I would be careful with Saffron. It's not a very strong facile.

A general rule of thumb for color coordination is to contrast warm colors with cool colors, or integrate warm colors with warmer variants and vice versa with the cool ones.

I mean, really, this is a hard subject to tackle because most faciles have their pros and cons. It would be cool to have a nice looking color to correspond with other matchable colors, or to integrate it into a pattern, but what if the facile is significantly weaker than the others in the combination? There are way too many variables to consider imo.

Like, take my black pent and rainbow hex bag. I use Black Noir, Flash Red, Marmalade, Tulip, Active Green and Splash Blue. Marmalade and Tulip just plain suck and get holes pretty early through the bags break-in process, in consideration to the other colors. Here, I would usually replace Sunny Sienna or Tangerine (soft) for the Marmalade [btw, Sunny Sienna is a great replacement for Saffron, and it's much more vivid and contingent to Saffron's hue, and it's stronger]. For the Tulip, I would use Tulip (soft) for it. Aside from Flash Red and Black Noir, the other colors are fairly thick and will last pretty well, but all of the colors are strong, will last and can break-in properly. There is no such thing as a bag that can't be broken in, concerning ultrasuede light and soft.

Also, an alternative method in making weak facile stronger is finding a proper backing to make a better foundation; protecting the facile from detrimental filler and abusive stretching of the material. This way you can still use a weak facile (ex. Saffron) and still have some confidence that it won't burst into a huge hole.

To simplify: it's easy to pair colors, but much harder to make those pairings function well and perform longer in the bag's life of break-in.

my favorite color combos are:
punch/green grape
flash/tulip
lapis/green mist
colonial red/atlantis
and any color hexes with white pents

and my favorite patterns are:
radiation
soccer ball
two color 12/8 blur (i have a picture of this somewhere if you need reference)
three color 12/8 blur

I like using rainbows. Or rainbow variants. It's like a trademark of mine.

I like using cute color combos that people rarely associate into 32s. Like... a Fearless 55 pattern consisting of colors like pink, green, brown, orange, etc. Or super cool colors associated with a variety of blues (you will not believe how many blues there are; unbelievable) mixing with yellow, white, beige.

Basically, I like to think of it as a free for all. Bringing something wild into the ordinary and mundane. I don't like to think like others when it comes to color combos. I like originality, I like animosity. Like Jack Kerouac in a way.
